  1. Went to the furniture fair today. We bought the bedframe and mattress. The bedframe is slightly different from the earlier one that we aimed. This one has storage on the side and headrest area -- good for me because I can chuck things in when I'm lazy to get up from the bed...hehe We bought the mattress seperately because we had already been aiming this particular model all along. This is the bedframe. Took this off from the website. This is the 3D pic taken from the company's website Mattress - Sealy Genevieve
  2. We have decided to replace our existing living room ceramic tiles with homogeneous ones. Why? Cos homogeneous tiles are much easier to maintain and clean (for lazy people like me lah ). So if wan to do, might as well do it once and for all. Cost for the homogeneous tiles is about 3 grands. Oh, by the way, I have updated the quotation on the first page with all the additional item that will be done. The final damage for the reno is almost $19k now, after including all the additional item. I was quite free this morning and did a compilation of all the exhibition in Expo from Feb to Apr that is related to furniture, reno etc. Bad news is that after the Gain City fair this weekend, there won't be anymore electronics fair or IT fair. Same for Suntec.
  3. Some revised pic from K again. Almost the same as the previous drawing, but with false ceiling included in the pic
  4. Hey Bluerosie, don't think laminates will oxidise. Experts please correct me if I'm wrong. But white colour will tend to become yellow over time. My ID has cautioned me about this, but as long as we clean up the surface when water gets splashed or it gets wet or oily, it will not become yellow so fast. I was thinking, even if it becomes yellowish, it'll become something like biege colour. So still looks alright to us
  5. My TV console will be housing all the typical heat emitting stuff. The AVR and X-Box are 2 big heat emitting units that are already super hot even when placed in open space. I have thought of cutting some ventilation holes on the top part of the TV console, but I think it will make the whole TV console look ugly. Can share how you guys manage the heat problem at TV console?
  6. congrats!! your home is slowly taking shape
  7. went to test water over the weekend, i was told $189, but from the way the salesgirl talked, i think we can bargain
  8. Some techie discussions here. I'll try to be as layman as possible..hehe I'm looking for a media player that's able to connect and play directly from PPS server (and other Video On Demand (VOD) servers if available). Apart from that, it should be able to play all the major movie formats (eg. avi, divX, mov, mpg, mkv, vob) and the mainstream movie audio decoders (DTS, Doby Digital, etc). Display output must be 1080p so that I can utilise the HD function of the TV and AV receiver, and of course availablility of HDMI connection on the media player box. Did some research on the Net for HD media players that are able to connect to PPS server so that CO can watch her movies and HK dramas without having to connect a lappy to the TV. I have narrowed my scope to the China brands at Sim Lim Sq because the mainstream brands (eg. AC Ryan, Astone, Western Digital, Seagate etc) mostly act as NAS, which is readily available on my current external hdd. Some do connect to VOD servers but is only very common ones like youtube. If you are an online movie buff, you'll know how limited and outdated these sites are. Found this China brand (GEIC) at Sim Lim that is able to connect to PPS, KuGou, and some other Chinese servers that has these online movies and TV dramas. This box doesn't have it's own storage device, but has 2 USB connections that you can use to connect external storage or even SD cards for you to play downloaded movies from. I tried Googling for GEIC's website, but I'm surprised there isn't any website available under this name. Here are some snap shots of the box. If anyone has any better alternatives, please let me know...
  9. We have thought of this issue too. The kitchen wall tiles are all white colour too...hehe... We'll be using glossy pearl white laminate so that wiping or cleaning will be easier. *hopefully*
  10. Some revised drawings. Most of the item has been finalised. TV console + feature wall --> Lengthened the feature wall to 7ft. We also decided to do a custom made tv console. PASS! Bomb Shelter feature wall + Shoe Cabinet --> doesn't differ much from the original proposed design. We decided to leave the other wall of the bomb shelter as it is, as proposed by K. We can use that wall to put some nice photo frames and pic on it. PASS! MBR Wardrobe --> we changed the design of the laminate. PASS! MBR Toilet --> We will get rid of the stock vanity top and basin. It'll be replaced with white solid surface top with an after-market basin. Hope I can snap a pic of that basin and post it here. PASS! Kitchen Cabinet --> We totally changed the colour scheme of the kitchen cabinet. We decided to go for pearl white so that the pathetic kitchen will project a slightly spacious visual effect. PASS! We have asked K to include the false ceiling & L-box in the drawings. Hopefully we'll get to see it soon. We'll most probably be replacing the stock living room tiles because ceramic tiles can trap dirt so it has to be mopped properly and regularly. I don't think we have that kind of discipline We'll decide after we see the quotation that includes the flooring. Arrgh....forgot to talk to K about the MBR toilet door problem. Got to bug him tomorrow again Overall, we are well on schedule. Reno is good to start by the time we collect the keys. Hopefully our unit has little or not defect like our fellow neighbours
  11. Hey Qin83, have you tried switching on the ceiling fan with the cove lights on? Do you get the flickering effect with the fan's blade spinning? My tv area's L-box and ceiling fan is very similar yours leh
  12. hehe....thanks Qin83. Going to "steal" your idea I think this method is much better.
  13. my HDBPage says end feb. Since I'm most probably getting the keys only after CNY, I think i'll start the reno after collecting the keys, if possible. Hopefully can finish before Qing Ming, else got to wait till after Qing Ming liao. Funny nobody mentioned any defect in their units. Maybe HDB really wake up their idea liao..hehe
  14. If you want to have faster internet access, I guess fiber connection is the way, since installation will be free anyway. My take is that it will make the conventional broadband obsolete in the next few years, just like how modem connection became obsolete.
  15. i think if u not doing false ceiling, it'll be more straight forward. It's just a matter of where u want to run the trunking. For me, I thinking of laying a trunking in the false ceiling beforehand with a rope in the trunking all the way from the entrance to the TV outlet. When OpenNet installation comes, just tie the fibre at one end of the rope, then pull it in from the other end of the rope. The bad thing is that if the rope breaks or the fibre gets stuck halfway, then siao liao. Looking for other more feasible tips...lol
  16. wah... getting more exciting seeing all the reno starting liao. I'm still sitting here waiting for the keys...hehe how r u dealing with the OpenNet trunking issue? Any tips?
  17. i also haven't gotten my keys yet. I think my ID quite "on" leh cos I've been rather slow in getting back to him. He's the one who has been initiating all the meet-ups yeah, will update progress of reno once it started. Hopefully all goes well
  18. I have put the quotation on the very first page of this blog, just in case any of you who are curious, can take a peep.
  19. Mine also 1A, but i don't have planterbed leh.
  20. just shopping and doing some research nia. Haven't paid anything for any stuff yet. Will start buying when reno is abt to start -- things like aircon, stove and hob, HTS and TV have to come in first cos of the wiring and trunkings. Furniture can come in near the end part of the reno. Maybe I'll miss out all the sales, but I don't feel comfortable putting the downpayment and having the item idling in their warehouse. God knows what will happen to that item while waiting... Oh...my reno will most probably bloat up to about 17k because I'm going to add in a few more items -- lengthen my TV console and feature wall to 7ft, replace the stupid MBR toilet door and probably replace the MBR toilet sink...hehe....don't quite like the default one Looking forward to see more blogs of the CS folks Thanks for the heads-up, Jemalene. Yup, will surely go take a look at Joo Seng branch and the warehouse outlets at Sungei Kadut. Actually wanted to go there yesterday, but baby fell asleep when we reached there, so we had to abort the plan
  21. Went to look for our furniture again. Went back to IMM again since we were around that area. This time, we concentrated on looking for dining table. We have decided to give up looking for an extendable one because it's all the choice is really quite limited. The recommended dimension given by K is 1.5m X 0.8m. So with this reference in our heads, we started our hunt. Came across 2 pieces which we like: This one is at OM. Looks quite simple, and price is quite OK Saw another piece. Both of us like the design very much, but the dimension is slightly bigger -- 1.8m X 0.9m. I think it shouldn't be a problem since it's only a 0.1m difference We came across this bed that look quite nice too. It's just a normal platform bed without any storage space. Bedframe alone is $1099. Mattress is also in the near $1k region. Will keep this in mind and come back next time to see if we can squeeze the price down.
  22. Went to my wife's cousin's house yesterday to "steal" some idea for our reno. Their house is simply splendid, but I don't think I can achieve even 10% of their standard because they have a very fat budget. The only place that we can probably imitate is their bathroom sink. Took a picture, will share with K and see if we can do something like this for our MBR toilet. I had been wanting a sink that looks something like this: The lighting looks nice too
  23. Hi Qin83, the sofa is fabric. It's rather pricy and there r a few negative feedbacks abt the shop but such sofa with high back rest is quite rare and we happen to be looking for this kind of sofa. Going to recce sungei kadut area for sofa of similar kind. Hopefully can find a less pricy one.
