  1. I think your hubby is right, abt being over priced, and agree with you abt your suspicion, on the part of them hitting it slightly below your budget (40k). The renovation of my flat is still ongoing, i can share with you my costing for reference. I was quoted $32k for doing up my EM (resale). I only retained the existing bedroom's wooden flooring, hacked off everything else (practically the whole house) and replace, i.e.no overlaying. Most of the items are rather similar to those you've mentioned, (WIW, and other carpentry item for MBR and etc) Other jobs includes the kitchen cabinet, replacement of gate, doors, water pipes for the whole house, painting. BUT of course, we can't compare apple to apple here (size may vary, and intangible assessment for workmanship) Personally, i feel you shd get hold of the quotation, ( ask them for it, either by fax or email also can) this will come in handy for comparison. About the $1k for 3D drawings... i feel its only an old trick to ensure that you stay committed to them, so as not to forgo your $1k... What if? At the end of the day, you choose not to engage them?? Surely dun expect any refund from them. Hence, is it necessary to have the 3D drawing? Is it an actual representation of what you will receive?? Another factor that u may wish to consider? i.e. Your level of comfort working with them. If you feel that you are comfortable working with them, and don't mind paying more for that comfort. I guess no one can stop you.
  2. Just to share my experience, as i'm currently renovating my resale flat too. Mine is an EM, should be ard 1571 sqft. Someone quoted me $3000 for Whole house rewiring, and i already find it EXPENSIVE. You were quoted $9500.... Wow!! Can wire up my flat 3 TIMES!!!
  3. Hi, loymcdg. Any update on the outcome? Did you manage to get it settled? Pls share with us, as i think its a learning point. How shall we cope with such a crisis??
  4. Any update on the case? I'm curious to know the outcome... Agreeing with Dr.Evil. It might be useful if Rossi can give us a some direct hint of the identity. I'm sure other fellow forumers will be curious to know too.
  5. I'm curious to know too... keke. Personally, i feel is just a sales tactic? Trying to entice you into believing that their workmanship is in tiptop since it will be used as a show flat. And also to make u believe that u've got the best deal in town, as the pricing quote will be at the lowest so as to attract more potential customers from the showflat.
  6. From the quotations which i received for my renovation. The most expensive Bi-Fold door that was quoted to me is $260, the range is $200-$250, but you were quoted $320. Of course we may not be comparing an apple to an apple, so pls check if your apple is worth the pricing Also, i noticed that you may have overlooked the base support for Fridge and washing Machine?
  7. Thanks for sharing with us such an episode. Will certainly be more careful when its my turn to go shopping for lightings.
  8. Thanks daijoobu. Agree, and will be contacting you soon. I was disappointed, over the weekends, my 'trustworthy' ID actually quoted me $1900 to do the polishing for the Staircase and 3 Bedrooms. I browsed thru some of the quotations received previously for the whole house renovation job, most of them quoted me around $1200, but i think all these are marked up prices too. Really need to get in touch with a wooden flooring specialist.
  9. I'm renovating my EM. Any advise on how much does it cost for for the polishing of 3 Bed Rooms (upper floor) as well as the staircase area? Any good recommendation on who to engage? Thanks.
  10. Good that you are looking beyond. Never stop at one. Scout around, have a good feel of the industry. See what others are offering in terms of design and pricing before you make a decision.
