I used to use the blue thingy for my old place toilet too, and no leakages for the past 5-6years. But when we were searching for toilet bowls for our new place, we asked various sanitaryware shops about the blue tablet, and almost all, save for those who said they don't know anyting about it, said it will spoil the silicone/rubber circle thingy at the base of the cistern. One of them explained further by saying the chemicals will harden and disintergrate the rubber over time, spoiling it. And that new generation toilet bowls are more susceptible to this problem. So we decided not to use it for our toilets. I'm really not sure if it is true tho.....

Side L-box For Window - Any Contractors Or Suggestions
mister_molly replied to makuk's topic in DIY Corner
i got contact for reliable Lbox contractor, can PM me if you want the number -
to arrange for a 2nd meet-up, you have to be very satisfied or curious with the qoute. some ppl arrange for 2nd meet-up to check out the workmanship of the carpentry, tiling, overall reno work. It also depends on how your 1st qoute was obtained, was it via floor plan and visitng the shop/expo booth/etc, or did the ID/contractor come up to your plc for onsite survey and measurements. Basically, when you get differnet qoutes, you can compare item by item and conclude which company really balloon up their profit margins. Alot of ID also recommend custom-making alot of items, which really jack up your bill, and their profits....
-
maybe can post your floor plan? Are you looking for ideas or contractor contacts?
-
wow enz, that qoute is really expensive. eg, plastering for whole house, I thought your place was a maisonette.....my 4rm flat plastering was only $1300. try looking around and get other qoutes like what iceblue recommended. Or you can PM me for my contractor's details.

i think its quite normal leh. my old sofa also had the same things poking out. i know for pillows, there are those quilted pillow protectors which creates a barrier between feather and fabric. but I have never seen any for sofas. have you checked back with the shop you bought it from? as for my old sofa, after a few months, less feathers poked out. but there will be the odd ones that find their way thru. I duno if rubbing the sofa will do any good..maybe it can help settle the direction of those odd feathers that are not lying down....

Hi everyone! I'm really curious if there is anyone out there who has successfully snagged a job whilst preggers? I was working for my company for almost 13years but had to resign in April due to pregnancy... So I have been trying to look for a suitable job for the past month... Did not do so earlier coz my first 3 months were totally exhausting and I was busy with the house reno, and now the boredom has set in. wld like to know if there are any tips I can follow, the do's and don't's when going for interviews. I went for one interview, but the moment I mentioned PREGNANT, their faces changed..... So any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

Any Recommendation On Where To Get The Mattress And Bed Frame?
mister_molly replied to goodman123's topic in Home Furnishings
I'm going to buy my Simmons mattress from Shaw Plaza at Balestier, 3rd floor. We went there last Sunday and the salesguy said bed frame is free, which is those on display except for a furry black frame. Most other plcs don't give FOC bed frame, which can cost anything from $199 (Courts) to thousand plus for those with storage. They have Simmons, King koil and Max coil on display. Simmons there are imported from USA, so the King size ones are bigger, 193cmx200cm. My hubby and me tried comparing prices but realised that different shops have different names for mattresses, so its difficult. -
sigh!!! I have been stuck at home since April, and I'm almost going crazy with the horrible bor-bor-bor cries of the rag and bone ppl!!! Some have the audacity to ring my doorbell asking for tv-ladio-tian-si-qi.... Will be moving to my new plc soon and it is no different....everyday the karang gunis will visit, worse still on weekends where at least 3 will do their rounds...Many of them blast their horns like there's no tomorrow, or they think that the louder their horn, the more likely we are to give them our newspapers and stuff. I was at my new plc when one guni man was collecting papers from my neighbour. My door was open, and he was shamelessly looking into my house, staring at my hubby and me, as if hoping we would invite him in for a rummage thru our things! My neighbours' door is 3m away from ours...and he was at our doorstep! Are there any forummers out there who are just as irritated by them? Is there anything we can do about the situation? Home is supposed to be a place of peace and tranquility.... not so, thanks to those guni men and women! I am not trying/wanting to break their rice bowl, but there should be a more regulated and first world system of doing things. The fact that their horns and warbles can be heard thru our windows, walls and doors is an intrusion of privacy and definately noise pollution. something must be done...but what? Like-minded forummers....can we make a change?

Hi Hi! It might be a little distracting to the Tv viewer when people come and go, and light from the door(is it the main door?) might be disturbing also. What is the layout of your living room? Maybe you could post your floor plan, i think alot of forummers will be more than happy to help.
-
Hi! It depends on the size...if yours is standard 1.7m high with 1 fixed panel and 1 swing door, than it should cost about $328-388, depending on the supplier. I've been qouted $500 also, but I went for the cheaper 1. cheers!
-
yup, got 2 for $1600...plus $50 installation fee. There was supposed to be a sale, with 15% discount for that fan...so i said i wld only get 2 if they sold it for $1600, if not my hubby and me were going to forget about the fans....hehehe anyway, we needed 2 lah, coz of the lay-out of our livingroom.

Hi mimi! Tried to PM you but your mailbox full..will try again in 02days?

are they going to bring back the grilles and spray paint or are they going to brush paint it? Ask your contractor if he is willing to bear the brunt of unsatisfactory repaint work, which is to replace grilles if not according to your standard. He would try to persuade you to repaint coz he doesn't want the hassle of either stripping the paint of making new grilles. Don't decide with a kind heart unless you can live with the results lah. It is not your fault that the color is wrong. If you decide to repaint, maybe can ask them to do 1 panel and you check if it is acceptable? I'm not so sure about wear and tear on double-coated new grilles. I made the window griille guy paint my grilles twice coz the 1st coat still showed the base color of black, and we wanted white grilles. After the 2nd coat, it was better, and did not show streaks or anything, but mine is repainted with the same color. But take lawry's advice. Redo, or get 50% off if repaint.

Aiyo!!!! My hubby and me almost got cheated by our electrician from Ele*tr*c Po*nt/KS L*ghting!!!! We did cove lighting with 7 T5 tubes, WIW with 2 tubes and he wanted to charge us for 9 lighting points $270!!!!! We argued for 2hours! Luckily when we bought our light from Lightcraft, an uncle there told us to be careful coz many ppl will cheat on this aspect!!! BEWARE EVERYBODY!!!!!
-
I got my L-box for cove lighting 3m and 4m, and pipe box-up 3m for $340 leh, but i forgot how the guy calculated pfr. But he was cheaper than other qoutes and thank God I got him coz like I wrote in another post, he was the most hassle-free contract work. whee!! I have yet to look into the cove lights though, not looking forward to vacuuming those flies away...ugh..but must do it soon otherwise i'll start breathing in their dust. melancholic: i used to suffer from chronic neck pains daily....if your doctors give the go-ahead, and you both have the time, why not try yoga? I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders when i went for my first few yoga sessions. My hubby joins me too.

my tub is 1.4m length, 80cm at the widest, and 78cm high. they initially qouted $750 for it, but in the end bought it for $690 coz we bought other stuff also. They have other sizes, but no displays, just catalogues. but since I saw it at Adamas Jln Besah, and tried it out already, i got it. Swift: Thanks swift! I think I've seen something like that before, but not in Singapore....for now i'm just gonna use bath salts...unless my hubby is keen to buy it for me!! hehehe
-
ashes02: ya lah, its easier to wash under the tub...mine has mini itty bitty legs so i haven't got round to washing underneath yet. I have an extra drainage hole below so contractor said can splash water to clean...dunno leh swift: i actually got my tub from ideal bath last year, and paid full as they said there was 1pc left. But when i asked for delivery 2 months ago, they rang last minute and claimed they broke the tub suddenly. they offered another design which we didn't like, so we asked for full refund...which was a blessing in disguise coz my tub altho short, is very deep.. and cheap! only $690 from Balestier! (of course we bought other stuff from them lah) If you are getting it from Jln Besah, pls speak to the local boss, coz a Chinese national guy we spoke to qouted $880 for it. And the total cost of building hollow block wall for a non-stand alone tub, plus tiling, piping and tub wld have cost more than $690. Wheee
-
hi swift!! How much are you willing to spend on your portable free-standing tub? Those in your post look like they cost a few thousands and can be found in Balestier, a shop next to LIGHTOLOGY, i think its called BATHWORLD...i think. There are some on display at HELMSLY, which is in the industrial area in Bishan. I think most shops will only have a few models on display/sale. I got mine from Adamas Balestier, tho the display is only at Adamas Jln Besar. Its smaller than those in your post, 1.4m in length.

you can also apply wood oil or linseed oil. It protects raw wood in its natural state and also cleans the wood when you apply it. I dun have any brand that i know off coz i was given a bottle (which is at my new plc) when my hubby bought a bundle of raw wood furniture. Basically, you rub in the thick, white oil, wait for it to dry, then wipe over with a clean dry cloth and your wood is happy. But the wood will not be dust-proof or smooth like varnished/lacquered wood. So maintainance is a must.
