Yah, I'm trying to get over it. At least I didn't lose my car or any valuables inside. I'm not really an impulse buying person... So even if I shop alone, I'm quite safe

Congrats on getting ur keys! Still waiting to see ur house pics

Dropped by Katong Mall yesterday and went to Mega Discount Store and Casa Italy. At Mega Discount store, we found the Hitachi fridge that I have shortlisted based on dimensions and energy saving ticks (must be 3 ticks or more). I actually brought a measuring tape there to make sure the dimensions are really what's stated on the specifications All looks good, and since it is cheaper than our initial Fisher and Paykel choice by around 300 dollars, we have more or less decided on getting the Hitachi. Will be getting quotes from other shops in addition to the one we got from Goh Ah Bee. Next we went to Casa Italy and looked at their sofas. There were 2 which we liked. Initial price quoted by the salesperson was quite ok as well (we wanted to upgrade to full leather and change colour). Then he promised to give an even better price, but only if we confirm on the spot. When we asked how good, he said can only tell us if we confirm. I didn't really like his attitude. Keep saying that if we come back next time, won't be the same price. Sorry, but this kind of tactic will never work on me. It's not like he's the only person in the world selling sofas. Anyway, booy took photos of the 2 sofas: 1. 2. 1st one looks nicer but 2nd one is more comfy We are keeping the 2 in our shortlist, hopefully won't see the salesperson if we eventually decide to get from there. Anyway, there's another Casa Italy at Lavender, so we can choose to go there. It's just 5 mins drive from my place

Yah, uncle is really friendly. When we mentioned that we want to change the aircon, he suggested how we should run the trunking and how he will hide it as much as possible. Definitely a good first impression. Now waiting eagerly for him to get back next week with his quote
-
We have actually called EverJoint & Hong Liang the day before. Trying to get a feel of the prices these shops offer. Yah, it is true that salesmen give conflicting information sometimes. We will do our own research and make an informed decision

Still couldn't get Ah Soon. booy missed his call this afternoon but when I called back later, he didn't pick up. No fate with him. Haha...

Actually, the situation is not that bad. Because we cannot find the model no of our existing Fujioh hood, we took a photo and showed the salesperson. The salesperson guessed that the model is FIT-150 and mentioned that if we want to change, we have to buy back the same hood to be safe as the 890mm width cannot fit most other slim hoods today which are 900mm wide. Problem is FIT-150 is an old model and harder to find, so it's more expensive and there's no package price if we get that, though the good thing is it's made in Japan vs the current model (FX900) which is made in China. When I went back home last night, I searched the internet for more info on FIT-150. Turns out that the photo on the net does not match our existing hood at all. So I'm 100% sure our model is not FIT-150. Digging further, I finally found a photo that resembles our hood the most. The model no is FIT-9 and the width is 900mm, which means we actually have a much wider range of hoods to choose from. You all can take a look at the photos and be my judge Our existing hood Photos of FIT-150 and FIT-9 on another website Moral of the story: Don't trust the salesperson 100%. Take their advice with a pinch of salt.

What's important is that you've found a place that you like. Just enjoy the renovation and furnishing process and forget about the COV

This is what booy meant by a lot of cupboards: And the breakfast table to put more things if we run out of space at the kitchen worktop
-
Buy drinking supply? You mean put? Ah... I see. Your kitchen entrance is by the side instead of center like us.

Congrats! Really exact same layout as mine

Congrats zerochristy on ur new place! One more week to go. I was in the same situation as you last week. Just got my keys yesterday. Haha... Since you are taking bank loan, you need to pay 5% of the valuation in cash in addition to your COV right? So by right you should go to bank to purchase a cashier's order (payable to HDB) for the remaining amount (5% valuation + 5k). Your lawyer should have given you the instructions and the amount. If not, call up the lawyer and scold him/her for not doing his/her work Just kidding.. call your lawyer and confirm the amount again.

We paid 23k for COV. The MBR toilet looks nice but we still intend to redo the toilets. The tiles are those rough type and booy thinks that's very hard to maintain and clean. Other things we want to do are mostly carpentry work and miscellaneous stuff like painting and polishing of the broken marble floor.

Haha... too shacked to post the photos last night. I was awake at 5.30am yesterday and couldn't go back to sleep as I keep thinking about the flat and reno stuf Went out at 10+ and squeezed in 3 meetings with 1 contractor and 2 IDs before going down to HDB in the afternoon for the appointment. After that, we went down to The Peak@Toa Payoh showflat to kaypoh since it's nearby before finally going to our flat to snap photos and do some measurements. By the time I got home, I was too tired already. Enough of my story. Photos coming up in 10 minutes (uploading in progress)...

Hehe, you are in. Everyone, pls meet my dear wife booy We will be trying our best to update this blog of ours regularly

Yes, definitely excited! Junction 8 is around 2 to 3 bus stops away from our place. Yes, we paid quite a high price for the location. But having lived in the central parts of Singapore all this while, we couldn't bring ourselves to move out to other parts of Singapore. And we do not want to live too far from our parents too after we move out. Yah, we are still wondering whether a 8 ft wardrobe is enough for both of us. Anyway, there's another built-in wardrobe in bedroom 3, so we may have to move some of our less-used stuff there if there's really not enough space.

Hello neighbours adrian_john, saw ur blog. Wow, you can draw very well!
-
The future room is just something extra in the original floorplan. I'm not going to have that. Yes, we like the nice squarish layout too. Only bad thing is the MBR bathroom eating into the space of the MBR, which makes the placing of wardrobe a bit challenging. Currently, the wardrobe is at the wall opposite the bathroom entrance, about 8 feet long. Guess we are going to do the same too.
-
The access balcony is actually the common corridor, and I think the door belongs to the corner unit. Not sure why it's in our floorplan. Yup, St 24. We are neighbours
-
Thanks pinkpetter & mrspiglet! Here's the floorplan: The dotted door in the MBR was the original location of the MBR door. The previous owner has moved it to the corner near the store room, which we agreed it's a much better location (more privacy). Since the place is still in good condition, we won't be doing a major overhaul. Just doing the 2 bathrooms and some carpentry work like TV feature wall/console, wardrobe, etc. Still visiting IDs to get quotes. Will be getting quotes from contractors too. I have some photos which I took when we visited the flat. Going to take more photos after getting the keys. Will post them up on Wed or Thu

Hello everyone! After lurking in this forum for a few months, it's finally time to start my own t-blog. After 2 failed attempts at balloting, my wife and I started looking at the resale market sometime in Oct last year. We started with Kallang and Whampoa area (which is where our parents are staying) but couldn't find what we wanted. We then expanded our areas of search and started to look at Toa Payoh, Bishan and Serangoon. Visited this Bishan unit in late Dec and we immediately took a liking to it. It's high-floor, north-south facing, view not totally blocked, and in very good condition. Only problem was that seller was asking for a COV which is way beyond our budget. In the end, we did manage to get a lower price but still busted our COV budget by 3k. I told my wife that whatever extra we paid can be saved from doing less renovation, so hopefully that will turn out to be true We exercised the option in early Jan, and after a wait of 3 months, we are finally 3 days away from getting the keys. Our 2nd appointment is on this coming Wednesday. Can't wait for the day to come
