  1. I didn't check with the tile company and too tired to discuss yesterday. Frankly I expected the HO to be delay looking at the current progress. But will make noise if it drag too long as my rental will expire next saturday.
  2. Uncle mentioned that he just came from waterloo when I met him yesterday. Is it your place? Glad to hear that Uncle will rectify those that is no good. So your HO will be on 31st? For me when he saw my windows, he told me the guys doing it is going to get "Diao" by me tomorrow. He was refering to the ugly patch jobs on the concrete surrounding the windows. For your carpentry, other than Jason I think you will have to talk to the carpenter directly to minimise miscom. Do you know who is your new carpenter?
  3. familyof4: I am using all homo tiles for the whole house. He wanted to do carpentry first before washing and I checked if acid wash will damaged the tiles. He told me he is more afraid than me because acid will cause spots to your carpentry. Do you mean that your kitchen and balcony is using ceramic tiles?
  4. Thanks for the reply on the acid wash. Apparently I was told that I will not be getting acid wash. Uncle told me acid wash will damage the tiles and so he will just polish it. A little update on the progress. I was shocked to see the wc, rain shower up. I specifically told Jason not to install because some of the parts delivered are not correct. So yesterday rushed down to collect the pancollar and wall bracket. When reached got a shock to see it was up. Called Jason why he didn't tell me of the installation today when I instructed them to install only after I notify them. He said he forgotten. But he said that he has already install the pancollar. I was wondering why he didn't tell me in advance and I don't have to waste money to buy it. The rainshower was also installed without the correct wall bracket and so it is slanted. Second shock was due to the carpentry that is all placed in the flat but not installed. I asked him why the carpentry are there when the acid wash not done. Jason told me that the factory got no place to put and so put at my place. He said acid wash can be done even if the carpentry are there. I checked the wood and it was like what Aubrey faces. Was quite mad and called Uncle immediately. Uncle rushed down to explain to me. He clarified that blockboard has been used for many years and give me the assurance that if there is any problem for the next 10 years, he will rectify for me. I listen to his explanation and also checked the wood. It is still quite solid. But he still offer to change the kitchen cabinet top surface to solid plywood that will be likely to be in contact with water. So kudos to Uncle. The other thing just want to convey the message. Uncle also want to let the people here know the the definition here in the forum is different from him. To him and the industry, solid plywood means blockboard. If you want the multi-tier plywood, it is called the "Jiu Cheng Gao". He talked about other detail but frankly sometime I don't understand his mandarin and explanation a bit too "cheam". Do talk to him to have a better understanding. But he said this few days, he keep repeating because many owners worried. There was changes to the wardrobe as my mirror suppose to be at the side not become at the center. I was thinking it looks really weird. Was wondering why the carpenter didn't want to tell me about the changes. Anyway I was thinking of changing the mirror to the side. My wardrobe is two pieces. Don't have to redo the carpentry, just swap the left piece wardrobe to the right. Think will call the carpenter to discuss. The distance between the toilet bowl and basin is also too close. Ask Jason since he said he went to my place 3 times yesterday and he said he forgot how my toilet looks like. Sign... Anyway there are many other recifications to be done. HO date no change, still next wednesday. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Don't worry too much. Don't think you will see much problem. Just that it will not last for many years. If I am not wrong, it is mild steel with power coating. Anyway if rust, can take the opportunity to change new one, right. For me that light was my first choice due to the glass panel but after discussion with shop pple was recommended alu type.
  6. Bathroom will be wet and steel is not very good for places that is wet. (except stainless steel) IMHO for bathroom, a better choice would be alu or glass.
  7. preciousjam: Pls do not mind if I be frank. I think your bathroom light is made of steel. You can try with a magnet. Do correct me if I am wrong.
  8. aubrey: I had been in the same situation as you. Uncle will also ask if you can accept it. So it really depend on you. Like some forumner advise me if really cannot accept it then got to tell him. For those that I think I can live with it, I will accept and also bear the consequences. So have some thought over it as what you said you will be looking at it everyday. After you have made a decision, give him a ring. Don't wait for him to call. If he doesn't answer, call later until he picks up the call. My recent issue was he sealed up my pipe which I wanted to use carpentry instead. So he admitted that he has forgotten and ask if I can accept. For this time, the decision is simple and I ask him to tear it down. To be honest I sense that he is unhappy but my decision if firm.
  9. Finally setting up your t-blog. Your house looks very new. No need to renovate also can move in already.
  10. I have a thick trunking and looks ugly. Actually after painting it become not so obvious. If got $$ then no problem can do cabinet.
  11. Ok some update My painting done since Monday but after that no much activity. Actually no activity at all. If that is the case, then need to chase them to start the acid wash. Does that mean there are two acid wash. One after painting and the other milder one two days before handover. But my stuff that I bought are on the floor. Can they still do acid wash or must install everything first? Lighting delivery will be today and guess only tomorrow can see some activity on electrical installation. In the meantime the carpentry fabrication should be going on in the factory. Plumbing also haven't start although my wc, sink, rainshower are already there. Only pancollar size different got some problem. Think need to chase Jason again if not this week will not have any activity. Ok just confirmed with Jason. He will do lighting installation and plumbing this week. Will call him once I get the pancollar. Also confirmed the sequence of the acid wash. He said is after electrically installation and before carpentry. After carpentry will be only normal washing, no more acid.
  12. aubrey, glad to hear that there is a resolution to your problem. Frankly I feel that it is better to communicate with the carpenter instead of going through another party. I was a little fortunate that I managed to talk to the carpenter after insisting that I meet him. True enough, some of the things I wanted was not being communicated to the carpenter, and some items were not what I wanted. I hope you will get a change your carpenter. Since after this episode, I don't think the current carpenter will be doing a good job. I am sure he will get it jialat jialat from uncle tomorrow. I know uncle value his reputation alot. Currently my stove is using LPG under the stove and my folks have been placing them under the stove for the past 30 years. Don't think it will explode. If you want to place under the sink, should be no problem. For the piping, discuss with the carpenter and I am sure it will not be too ugly. Anyway it is hidden. By the way, did you ask him about your hinge?
  13. Wah quite late already still waiting for him. Are you waiting at your new flat?
  14. Confirmed it's plywood lah. If you count the number of plies, should be odd number.
  15. My quote also PD door which is my initial plan but now I change to just bi-fold. So I think if change to glass door should not have to top up right.
  16. Think your quote if include PD door, then should not have to top up. Glass door don't cost too much nowadays.
  17. I am waiting for your update as well. Hope uncle can solve the problem for you.
  18. aubrey: I think Reiki's solid plywood is a 9-plies excluding the face and back ply. For the one in your picture, I am not able to see the grains of the woodblock in the blockboard. You can compare with the picture that I have attached earlier. Maybe you can check tonight to confirm if it is a blockboard.
  19. For my mbr, storage heater only got one hot pipe to the rainshower. Will not be used for washing other things.
  20. ok just to share my cost: MBR: Rainshower set with mixer: $350 Storage heater: $200 Common bath: Instant heater: $160 Additional hot piping no charge since not very long.
  21. I have no problem closing my current bi-fold door. I have a handle on the outside. What you have to do is to pull the handle and the bi-fold get engaged in a straight line, no gaps. Is there a handle outside the bi-fold door in your friend's place?
  22. aubrey: Can check with you if the side of the blockboard is similar to the picture? I was reading about the blockboard and seems like it is constructed of solid wood strips between laminates like the one above. The standard thickness is about 10-25mm. BTW is Irex better hinge than what you have. Italian made right? Reiki: Your carpenter very professional. Mine didn't show me the solid plywood. Also didn't do the drawing. He used my drawings instead.
  23. aubrey: Don't faint yet. I am also not too sure if acid wash is done before or after carpentry. I think there are different practises. Hopefully someone can advise what is the right procedure. fondue: My house too small, only got one indian painter. He paint slowly and I don't mind as well since waiting for the carpentry to be up. I think he took about 3 days to paint. I checked the paint and make sure it's ICI. But for ceiling, I did not see them using the paint that I wanted. Anyway close one eye. familyof4: Think he will tell you he forgot. Better write big big on masking tape and paste all over your tiles that is not for acid wash. poiseidon gal: Can help us check with your pm on the correct sequence? Thks in advance.
  24. My thinking is that if you have 2 sliding doors, you can always slide it one side if you want the books to be seen. Then if you have guest coming, you can slide the door back to make the place nicer. Another suggestion is to have those door that opened vertically and can slide it into the cabinet when you do not need them.
  25. aubrey: My carpenter told me he only uses solid plywood. I did ask him during our meeting yesterday and he understand my concern about the short cuts. I was given the assurance all carpentry he uses only solid plywood for all the work.
