  1. I wrote in ivy's thread that Ah Soon may be overloaded and closer supervision is needed on his workers to ensure the right quality of work. These are some examples, but hopefully Ah Soon has rectify or soon to rectify :) A. Smiling face We found this series of chipped tiles that form a smiling face. The electrician must have a misfire with the drill. We asked the electrician and he told me it will be covered up by wire trunking. Even the tile master lamented how could it happened. We told Jason and the tile master, and the tile is changed the next day. B. Toilet windows We wanted to change the toilet windows but did not ask to see the sample. Ah Soon went ahead and install the window panels without asking us. He only asked us about the frame, which we wanted bronze. Then the window panels turned out looking like 70s windows. Frames was right but panels very very "sar-la"(wrong). My wife was pretty upset, but Jason agreed to change the window panels to a more comtemporary looking one. Well, we still recommend Ah Soon to anyone but advise that we pay closer attention to the workmanship. We also need to pay close attention to details. :)
  2. Recently we went thru this same dilema too........... we wanted Homo tiles for all floors and then Lami wood on all bedrooms cos we like the warm and cozy feelings. But after reading some forum and blogs... some users complain that moisture makes the Lami floor pop out and this can happen if you have water on it. So, after consideration, we decide to go for homo tiles cos we want to stay in our place for a long time......... dont want future costly problems. Plus I have 2 kids who always runs around with water bottles and they love to spill water on the floor. :)
  3. We consulted the contractor and also the one selling fans.... .decided to take Henry advice to put on actual ceiling and not on false ceiling. I dont want future problems. Even now, if can put on false ceiling........ dont know what will happen in 10 years time. Dont want major reno problem. Think we will switch to L-Box and do a fan in the middle part. Stagger, we just bought our fans from Royal Fanco, 135 Jalan Besar Road. Look for Henry (62990453). He is super patient and cares to explains everything to me. In fact, we bought our WC, basins, taps... heater bathroom accessories from him too. I will load pics tomorrow when they deliver to my new house (for installation).
  4. Good idea! I will post some pics when ready. But someone did caution me when I first joined that we should not recommend Ah Soon too actively otherwise his quality of service will suffer. As of now, we are already seeing lesser and lesser of Ah Soon.... and some of the work quality has suffered (Will post more on my t-blog) So for the sake of those who are still reno-in-progress, we should manage the publicity. In any case, we are not doing it for our own benefits but for the good of all undergoing reno.
  5. Smallboy's house will be very nice.... Will post more pics later. Still work in progress....
  6. Hi, I've a 5rm hdb unit with a unique beam that caused the ceiling to be low (See Pic). My contractor has suggested to put up a false ceiling to flush with the beam. With this my ceiling is about 2.4m high. Is it still possible to install a ceiling fan on the false ceiling? I'm looking at buying the fanco fan FFM3000 with 330mm depth. I read somewhere that installing a ceiling fan on false ceiling is unsafe? Any person has done that? Thanks for your advice.
  7. Nice nice sofa....... how much did you pay? Where did you get it?
  8. hahaha..this is SO funny. My wife hates the Retro Look........... she will faint when she reads this. She just wanted something funky and different......... you can see the rest are normal WHITE glossy tiles... but for that feature wall in the kitchen, she wants a special look...........hopefully when the cabinets are up...... you will see her vision of modern contemporary.
  9. Yes... dont introduce anymore people to him cos he is REALLY busy............ very scary.... :)
  10. Wow... things move fast! BTW, I read here you are getting roller blinds? can share the costing and contact. thanks
  11. I love your before and after pics... what a BIG difference... I love the soothing colours for the living room.... very nice place!
  12. From Smallboy wife here (my name is Wendy) Ivy, Ah Soon tell me your hubby VERY VERY tall........... cos when I ask him to do some false ceiling near my kitchen, near my counter (half island)........ he said "can can, your hubby not as tall as the 340 one"...........hee..hee... Another interesting thing: we are known by our flat numbers....... he never know my name or surname..... he goes by Clementi 342. hahaha...LOL
  13. Wow... fast... you are ready to go! Be ready............ once he comes in, the hacking very fast..... then you see your house in sand and debris.......... then his tiling team comes in next........... I am just 2 weeks ahead of you.
  14. like your sofa........ where did you buy from? And how much? thanks! Very very nice place you have........ cool furnishings!
  15. May I know the contact for your roller blinds? How much did you spend? thanks!
  16. Dont buy Ikea cooking stuff...... I once bought a kettle.... just what... the inside rust? Yucks... I have been drinking rusty boiled water...........
  17. Tigades........ WELCOME! Show us pics............ Uncle biz is fast growing............ not like the economic down turn........ recession proof!
  18. One night, he came and suppose to do some drawings for us....... end up we listening to his funny long winded stories.... only he laughing........... LOL! But agreed. he is totally talented......... ie. he can translate what I want into paper..... this guy is a walking computer.... he can churn out drawings just like that....... dont see him blur-blur..... Ah Soon work him very hard.... one day he came to our house limping....... he said he fell down at work site....... this uncle soon still make him work..........
  19. We making uncle working very hard! Sometimes the Jason will grumble and tell his stories... he is very funny. I think he will open our house and let you see, if you ask him to.
  20. We call it some stupid HDB or SCV design who NEVER USE BRAIN........ how can they install that beam in the middle of the whole house. So obvious...... so UGLY......... my 4 room flat, at least nearer to the window (by the end of the room). Next time you come over, you see see........... and also I share my idea with you............ Uncle gives a few suggestions on what to do.
  21. same side as entrance. we same same layout.
  22. Ivy, In our living room there this ugly cable beam.... etc... for SCV... right in the middle of that way. This wall was supposed to put our sofa........... now that funny thing protruding that.... Here is the opp wall for feature wall. We decide to change ......... meaning the sofa and feature wall swopped walls........... but then, the West side will shine on our TV... how? Deliberated on this for some days.......... we decided to stay with original plan but build some thing thin and small (like a design element) there to cover up that SCV cable.
  23. hi, Smallboy's wife here........... Ah Soon is your regular contractor ie... i dont expect any design elements he can bring to my reno. But saying that, because he has done so many houses, he kinda of know what works and what not. But at the end of the day, it is up to us to decide. So, the "u say, i do' way. We know what we wanted... after 'studying' many Home Decor books and many home furnishing mag too. We came up with the design and the colours scheme. Then he tell you technically whether it can be done. For feature wall, it is Jason (Ah Soon' bro) who handles the sketch/design........ I must say this guy has some good sense of balance and functionality in his propopals. Ah soon will give you books of laminates to choose from. You got to know what you like. As for tiles, he wont follow you to choose tiles. You decide on your own. All in all, my expectation is like that........... Like I tell my hubby.... "Huh... you trust them with colour scheme???? Just look at his dress sense.......... hahaha... always uncombed hair, 3 quarters pants/shorts.... hee....." Enough said, I trust his workmanship rather than his design perspective.
