interesting talk here... I think for the new batch of people like us... he is going like this: 20 - hacking starts/tiles delivered 20 - tiling starts 20 - carpentry confirmed/fabrication 20 - carpentry installed 10 - handover 10 - 2 weeks after handover We are happy with this arrangement. Progress by progress we pay him.

Aiyo, this Jason blur blur.. he also dont know. Just ask the carpentry guys to show you their BLUM catalogue. Then you pick the Tandembox size (S1, S2, S3, S4) and then for the width, they can customise for you. Dont need to be 40, 60, 80.... the carpentry guys will advise you. Come over to my place (when you are free)... I can explain to you with the BLUM drawers install. :) I had a light blub moment once the carpentry guy explained to me. All along I also thought standard width of 40, 60 or 80 cos that how Ikea sells it.

Wow.. Fondue. I wish I had that map before I bought all my stuff........

Wendy replying: XBB, I think runners are standard sizes... maybe you can check with the contractors who are doing your reno. Apples, you should have an idea what you want... and Jason will draw accordingly. That's what i did. Or else he will just do all cabinets (not the drawer type)....... as for the corners, you can buy those basket/trays which turn at the corners. These are specially made for corners. But I find the space needed to put those corner pull out very large. I only have 1 corner of dead space... well, I also put 'dead' stuff inside. ie.... all those antique cups and stuff which my mom said cannot throw. So I wont access them usually. For the other corner, I have design such that it will open up from my counter the other side. hee..hee.. hard to see from pics. Apples, if you can't come on sat, you are welcome to visit next weekend. Maybe we will be there. 1 or 2 May??? Fondue, me no 'cooking mama'........ I am just experimenting.... just love to try new cooking stuff. My next stop is Pantry Magic at Holland village. Got very cool kitchen stuff.... :)

The smaller width ones are only 80+..... not all my tandemboxes are $100.. or else broke broker brokest... :)
-
Just like BLUM, they can get these at contractor prices. :)

Fondue, the tall unit is like a pantry unit. All blum tandemboxes with pull out handles.... I have a long door over that tall unit. Then inside 5 small box liked drawers for cans, containers... biscuits tins..etc... apples, I still have not bought an oven. Ask them to make oven standard size so I can fit a 60x60 oven. Ivy, yes.. there is dead space... but in my household, there are also dead stuff... hahaha... meaning stuff in boxes which I called antique.... which my mom said cannot throw and I dont use... those type of things. Actually I wanted that space to be a corner pull out unit...... Pinkpetter: Almost 2 inches shorter..... infor for everyone, our finished cabinet should be 34" tall ... industry standard unless you are very tall... you will need something higher. XBB: what's DMG?

Wendy Replying: Hi apples, I bought that basket from the carpentry people who did this... they showed me catalogue.... quoted me less than 80.. can't remember exact price. But certainly cheaper than most places I have seen...a size smaller than this was 125 at a shop at Jalan Besar. BTW, Song Cho not cheap... we find the prices very very high. I didn't see sample.... just see catalogue. Those 2 corners, I am not installing basket. Basically basket only for my sauce bottles, near the cooking area. Some tips for planning kitchen: 1) Observe currently how you cook... what items you usually need? Pots, plates.. sauces... placed these near you. 2) Go to ikea and play around with their kitchen... I like to see how they plan their layout. Or play with their software.. very fun.. 3) Go to BLUM website.. some helpful tips there.

hee...hee...it is me, Wendy doing the kitchen planning la......... Smallboy (my hubby) can only shake his head over the kitchen... cos he goes like "why do you need BLUM"...
-
Yes... this has to do with the different skirting height (the curb) the tilers built.... cos they want the water to flow to the other side if I wash my floor. Is yours like that?
-
Apples... I plan every drawer (down to size, hee...hee...) every open door. Where to place my stove, sink, fridge, oven... I plan it around the way I cook, my work flow..... my preferences for counter space, to cook with my girl (who loves cooking)... my baking endeavours.... etc... And I love entertaining... so that counter space (open island) is great for serving food.

Here are some pic of my kitchen: There will be a glass panel separating the wet and dry kitchen. See the BLUM BLUM tandembox and tracks... now you know why I need so many! :) Anyway, see the last pic.. the lower cabinets are torn away today....... I am impressed with Uncle today..... he came after hearing my complaint that the height of these cabinets is wrong. Straight away, he measured and asked 'why so low'........ who did this? All the workers shivered...... he was fierce. He made some calls and scolded people. Telling the boss of the carpentry that reputation and workmanship is important. He wants it CHANGED. Period. My jaw dropped. And yesterday Jason was just trying to explain it away.... one call to Ah Soon.......... this whole cabinets got taken out, back to factory. I am

Wow.. nice toilet... we same same taste.. my counter top and sink also like that... and we use the same tiles too.... :)
-
From Wendy: I chose mostly from Greenlam.... like the range... esp the wood. Now that my cabinets are up, I am very very happy with my selection of the wood colours... it turned out so nice......... For BLUM tandemboxes... be prepared to part with $100 per box (estimate size S3, 80cm).... hope this helps cos different sizes, different prices. This is the most expensive of the sizes that I have chosen. I didn't buy the tracks cos if i get Tandembox, everythings comes with it.

Fannie is right.... this will take place (the walk thru with Jason) 2 weeks after your reno starts.. ie when the tiling works are more or less done.
-
The gate is sooo cool... amazing details... And I like the embossed wall... the gold one... very very nice! :) I think your ID very good with these ideas

Yes.. they always say that... everything can be done. I am very particular about kitchen cos I am cook there so I want very specific length of drawers here and there.... I scared later they tell me cannot fit la... so I rather be safe. That guy was like "why this woman so particular".... hee...heee....I planned the entire kitchen... of course I want it the way I have planned. I dont want to leave it to them. For all that you have bought, ie electrical appliances.... you can pass the catalogue to them when they want the measurements. For the fridge, just measure the width, length and height... taking into consideration the bulky part at the back too. For toilet fittings, no need to give them measurements... they just fit in for you when the time comes. You just need to measure the area yourselves so when you buy you know whether can fit. For laminates and paints, I chose all before they started hacking. Just get them ready when the tiling work finished and the carpentry guy comes talking to you. This is where they need the laminates code to start fabrication. For painting, after carpentry work. A easy way (which has worked for us)........ type out these laminates codes on A4 sheet and give to them. No mistakes. Dont want them to write down... later write wrongly ... sa-la.... Have a floor plan ready and your painting codes.... Jason will scribble on the floor plan which wall to take which colour. But you give him A4 sheet of your selection too. we very very kia-su la. :)

Ivy, when you come in on Sat... you can look closer on my white laminate... that's the one which is badly done. Can see groove lines ALOT... but my wood coloured laminates ok. Here are some pic:My 12 ft bookshelves: And our famous Jason...... I still find him funny at times. Anyway, good people... honest guys! He gladly let me take a shot. I told him, after today, he will be famous. He stayed behind yesterday till 7pm to talk to us about the workmanship.

Wendy replying: Ivy.... just a word of advice... take the measurements of the kitchen cabinets when tiling is done. More accurate. We went thru the exact measurements with his carpentry guy ONLY when tiling completed... cos I want specific things at certain position. Get ready your measurements for your washing machine and fridge now. The tiling guys will need from you 1 week after your hacking. As for Ah Soon, he always wants us to replicate what he did for other houses so it is easier to fabricate. Like my shoe cabinet, Jason drew up a something which is totally the same as a house in Jurong which we viewed. We said NO. Cos our laminate selection does not fit that design. So we came up with a design ourselves. So, you got to be specific with him when it comes to carpentry work. Show him pics, if possible.

Good that your carpentry work came up great in the end.... now we are resolving ours today......

wow... didnt log in last nite. Wendy replying now: Enivi: for plastering, it is really up to you...... Xiaobinbin: yes... I teach at MWL.... hee..hee... I have tons of scrapbooking stuff... thus I need that 12ft cabinets... in fact, we instruct the carpentry guys to build it such that it can fits in my 12x12 albums.... I PM you my add. Aubrey: Just buying the BLUM track is cheaper than the entire BLUM tandembox. Familyof4: we will be there till 11am. Ivy and Fondue: I think our carpentry guys is first time doing for Ah Soon. Yesterday Hubby checked in details... not too pleased with the workmanship. This carpentry company also do for contractors and ID. well.... standards diff.... Can you imagaine my dry kitchen is 1 inch shorter in height.......... can tell the difference cos when I stand there... it is really low, though 1 inch is not much. Standard practice is 34" for height of kitchen cabinets. Today meeting Uncle Soon to resolve this.... SIGH.... I think he also got worried cos Jason feedback about this carpentry company. But other parts, I am pretty happy with the WIW. JOdezn: you are welcome to join in on Sat. Will PM you the address. Oh.. your mailbox is full. Can't get thru.
