Hi Jesslyn, Dun worry too much, its not entirely the worker's fault. Older flats have thinner concrete slabs than the newer one. During then, the floor slabs are design to withdstand lighter household loads as homes are much more simplier in the past. NO floor tiling, only matting or vinyls and NO bulky furnitures. But with your major kind of hacking, its inevitable that slabs will crack or worst like now give way. Can understand your neighbour's agony, apart from the opening created on their ceiling, hacking disturbance are more obivious due to the thinner floor slabs. I think you should 好好沟通 and PR PR with your neighbour to prevent bad blood in future. Afterall, your reno had caused them some inconvienience.

Hi Jesslyn, Congrates for your new home..... Btw, i saw the pic of a heater..... hv u got it yet? I suggest tht u get the gas heater from City Gas..... Its very safe and will save about 30% as compared to using eletrcity ...... worth giving it a thought. In fact we installed both the heater & dryer as well , in the long run save $$$ ......

pbtgal, more updates ........ -
If i did not remember wrongly ..... For older flats, only those units next to the staircase need to have Fire-rated doors. This is to ensure in the event of fire from the units next to the stair, fire can be contain within a stipulate time depend on the rating. And the escape route will not be affect. If your unit is not by the staircase, there is no requirement. Pls chk with HDB first before install ..... cos Fire-rated doors are much expensive

Cannot rule out that those missing ones are delibrately missed out in order to make their quote look competitive...... In fact, to play safe no slaughtering later, you should get them to quote for those items which you might condider adding on later. Pls take note of wat Fo4 reminded about the eletrcial part. Get a electrical price list from the ID before signing up..... Hahahaha..... 11 is alot , even some big projects don't have so much quotations & bidders...... Actually, shortlist & target at 3-4 highly recommanded ID in the forum will somehow lessen your hassles ....... Cos there are really a fair bit of dishonest, half-cook IDs
-
Bro, i think you have met a little too much contractors ..... it will only confuse you with their quotes..... if they know your initial budget, they will try to either exclude certain items, change the finishes, hide some items and only reveal upon you signed up with them to create VO. To make your own life easier & prevent all these stunts from happening, its good you short-list 3-4 of them, give them a Full list of items & finishes (including those optional items to quote). Like this you can compare apple to apple. From the Full List then you slash away those you don't want. In this way, you will get to know all the rates and make it a little more difficult to slaughter you on V.O even upon signing up with them. Hope this helps
