I'm sorry i can't help but add some further comments to ur mentioned article in whitegoods Uk, as I needed some time to read the lengthy debates at the forum by the owner and washerhelp's owner as well. I believe this is an unnecessary jibes and point of argumentation, because it just points to their concerns that independant repairman's bodies in the uk May be denied the right to repair a miele machine at a lower cost if the fault diagnostic program in the new washers ca only be read by miele's technicians. In EU they call it a manufacturer's monopoly. However in sg, the syetems worl in a totally different way. If ur bosch machine is spoilt, u call bosch, or the place where u bought them, and they referred to bosch technicians. Likewise for samsung, electrolux, Lg etc.. But if its a cheap machine, maybe u might know some handyman from somwhere, who might be able to repair it by his own accounts, at a cheap rate maybe. However I believe if someone pays top dollar for a miele, u would rather a professional technician from miele to repair it, not some uncle from a D.I.Y shop. Likewise if ur BMW needs repair, u will go to a BMW workshop. What i meant to insinuate is, this is a totally wrong point of argument. In Sg, we work in different dynamics and the whole thread in the Uk whitegoods forum is based on the repair industry.By adding the link to ur comments, u r like using another poison to poison the wrong part of the body. In any case, id u read carefully the threads, Mr washerhelp and Whitegoods both cemented thir affirmation to Miele's 20yrs quality promise. It's just disappointment that maybe in future only miele technicians, and not independant repairmen can repair miele machines. And it's not related in ur comments and opinions as well. Thank you

But if U just started washing, if the waterlevel has not reached the desired level whereby its unsafe to open the door, u still can do it.In any case, with the honeycomb drums, feel free to put in ur silks, cashmere, wives expensive lingerie in the washer. It guaranties will not spoil ur clothes. The salesman even dares me to put in a stalk of fresh roses in to wash!! -
Electrolux Front Load Washers And Dryers
lapena replied to adrian_john's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi adrian, sorry for the late reply as I'm in a different time zone now.Yes I think the miele promo is available at the showroom. However If u want to get the best out of ur money, its best to head for a retail stores like Best denki or Harvey Norman, as Miele showroom is strictly no discount, no freebies. The biggest range for Mieles will be Ngee Ann city Best denki. They have additional 1% rebates plus freebies as well. Plus the free Miele vacuum worth $408, its a great deal, as the dryer that it provides is a condenser type so there is no hot air to vent. But be sure to get the right salesman, or else u will be like me, being served by inarticulate, ignorant salesmen who will try to convince u that the honeycomb promo is low-end models.. Cheers and gd luck! -
Hi Cromodora, I'm surprised U actually rate an Lg higher than a Bosch, electrolux, or Siemens.. Now I'm baffled U had doubts over the Mercedes Brand Miele as well. Anyway the above-mentioned articles by Whitegoods Uk is true! Because in the Uk, and some Eu countries, the repair industry is regulated by a body and a workers union supports it. That means if U stay in the Uk , and u had a brand A washer, it spoils, u need spares and a technician, these body will provide the expertise, n spares can be gotten cheaper due to similars parts and nuts from most brands. However, U can call Miele snobbish, I will say its a gd thing in anycase, they believe that their products can only be best serviced by a Miele technician and their spares are only "exclusively" produced and provided by themselves, that's why they closed the spares and repairs markets to outsiders. And for ur 2nd point, I have mentioned that in different countries, they bring in different models. In Miele Sg, they brought in the newer models and i do feel they somehow priced the later models higher in Sg too, as i've previously mentioned. However in some countries, taxes are not priced in yet and the warranties are priced differently as well. That's why I mentioned the active care packages is an excellent deal. My german friends commented this package is even similar in pricing to germany itself. I once got served by a sales staff at a particular electrical store when I went to admire the miele machines. He explained that Miele is expensive, because it's made in Germany and to quote him," u ARE PAYING SO MUCH FOR JUST A BRAMD NAME" ITS ONLY A 6KG MACHINE. LET ME SHOW U THIS BRAND!! ITS HALF THE PRICE, ITS 8KG, IT HAS MORE FEATURES, IT HAS ALLERGIES FUNCTION. .. then pointing to me vividly the allergies wash prgm that's gd for babies. because I'm pushing a stroller with my 8 mth old niece in it. I smiled and walked off. 6 mths later the particular brand that this salesman pushed me to dropped its price by half,...Btw the miele model I see is W1714 and it remains the same price with no discounts given. What does this tells me? I've been using a miele for half my life and I believe millions of users around the world too. It wun garner " Best brand in Germany, in front of google," by readers digest 2008! " Which? consumers magazine, Best domestic brand in 08,07, with 11 best buy categories" including washers, dryers, vacs " Robb Report Best of the Best washer brand 2008" if their supposedly small 6kg,belt-driven, expensive brand is so much inferior to a 8,9kg brand washer with more features, new technology, and with tendency to drop prices drastically after a yr in the market?? To end my note, I admire and appreciate yours truly, and anyone's views, as it would only help readers with more helpful considerations for their purchases. And I wouldn't slam anyone's views and points. But if like the quoted salesman, U pay top dollars just for a "brand " name, to put down a brand, then that takes serious doubts on the integrity and intents of the perpetrator.

Harvey norman milennia, rina electrical, as well as best denki vivi and imm in smaller ranges like vacuums etc. The most extensive ranges u can see from them is the best denki outlet in ngee ann city and the showroom. For built-in aplliances, try rina electrical, or designer concept kitchens like bulthulp, hugo...

If u are buying built-in appliances, they are an excellent choice, but if what u are buying can be bought at most retail stores, then either a harvey norman or best denki may offer better rebates.

Electrolux Front Load Washers And Dryers
lapena replied to adrian_john's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Do u need a dryer if so , then the miele honeycomb washer plus dryer combo is on offer now @ $3888(usually $6k plus for a set), plus a free vacuum from miele to boot. If not, then a gd bosch, electrolux won't be a bad idea too. -
Hi moonlit, sorry forgot to mention the acticare models are w1740 and T7740. The price is iclusive if gst. Best denki Ngee ann is giving away a miele vacuum worth $408 as well.

Sure,!!! It will be my pleasure.I'm not an expert or anything, just sharing what I know from this fabulous brand! If U have checked out the miele overseas market, in particular, australia or Uk, there are a whole range of honeycomb models that are not being sold in Sg!And the cost will not be as expensive as the W1714 and T7744 that are sold over here! Actually, my personal opinion is that Miele Sg wants to position itself as highly luxurious at this part of Asia, thus only bringing in higher-end models.Another reason is that the pricing is a little bit higher in Singapore, than lets say Germany or Uk. After checking out both the specs for the active-care range I found little, or virtually no difference in build quality compared to the predecessors, w1714 or T7744 honeycomb models. The only difference is in their programmes, where shirts, denims and Dark garments are changed to Sportswear, outerwear and proofing in the activecare range, thus the activecare theme for this range. However the minor differenves can be easily tweaked using the rpm and temp to suit your preferences.Another reason might be either exposure because maybe in tiny singapore, there are not too many who will spend $6k on a miele washer/ dryer combi. Thus this limited promotion, which I heard Miele is bringing in limited quantity to test the new market who has not heard of miele yet, or those whose been pushed off by the astronomical prices for a standard w1714 and T7744.MAybe the economic climate also plays a part for their very rare promotions,.But the catch is that this activecare range can onlt be bought in its entirety, that means u cannot split the washer and dryer. U must buy it as a package, individual units are not for sale. If they are it will cost $3k as a single unit too! So far,I'm loving my miele,.. Hope this helps

Just adding my 2 cents worth of opinions, and also to share my experiences to all miele users or would be users on their supposedly out of this world prices for washers n dryers!! I'm not rich, i only buy miele when they have gd bargains or promotions... For everyone's info, Im now using their promotion active care package of honeycomb washer n dryer retailing @$3888.. Not sure if its still retailing because I bought it for 3 mths and the salesguys told me the promotion ending.. This is a write-up by washerhelp.co.uk on this prestigious german family company!! http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/reviews/miele-overview.html Miele washing machines: Build quality This independent review examines the ethos of the washing machine manufacturer Miele, and why they are a lot more expensive than most other washing machines such as Hoover, Hotpoint, Whirlpool and many others. Reading this review, you could be forgiven for thinking I wrote it specifically to promote Miele. My enthusiasm however is totally genuine and not solicited by Miele in any way. If you don't want to read the Miele build quality overview, you can go directly to some actual Miele washing machine reviews - Miele W 3740 review | Miele W864 review Summary What kind of washing machine would you end up with, if quality and reliability was the main influence on its design and production? You end up with a washing machine that combines the build quality and reliability of products from decades ago, with the sophistication, and energy efficiency of modern technology. The company motto at Miele is, "forever better". They are one of the minority of washing machine manufacturers that decided to build the best product they were capable of, even though to achieve this standard, their product would be amongst the most expensive in the business and the majority of people would be put off by the price. That's what I respect about companies like Miele. About Miele washing machines I'd known for years about Miele's reputation for producing some of the quietest, and most reliable washing machines available. I'd not recommended Miele washers to my customers though. I suppose I'd always been put off by the extra cost, and concerns about getting a Miele washing machine repaired if it does go wrong. However, after finally doing some proper research into the declining quality of new washing machines currently on sale, I stared to realise, that in the UK at least, Miele probably make the best washing machine you can buy. OK, so Miele washing machines seem very expensive. To be fair though, there is a good argument that in the long run, a Miele washing machine is actually cheaper to own than the cheapest washing machine. There's an old saying that springs to mind, "buy cheap, buy twice". If something costs twice as much to buy, but lasts more than twice as long, it's actually cheaper isn't it? It's just the up-front costs that are higher. Will a Miele washing machine last over twice as long as a cheap one? Well, I can't say for certain, but it should do, (Miele themselves expect their washing machines to last 20 years) and it'll be a lot quieter, more sophisticated and more reliable too. What's wrong with cheaper washing machines? The trouble with many washing machines these days, is that their design and reliability seems to be dictated almost entirely by costs. The majority of washing machine manufacturers are fighting out a long running price war, which will probably end up with them all being taken over by large global companies until there are just one or two companies making washing machines worldwide. Already, many apparently competing washing machines are actually owned by the same companies. ( Who owns who? Who really makes your washing machine ) In an ideal world, companies making a product should make it as well as they possibly can, and then sell it at what it costs, plus the profit margin. Unfortunately though, this results in a product costing a lot more than the average person is prepared to pay. So manufacturers usually do it the other way round. They find out or guess what most people will pay and build the product to sell at that price. This usually results in a lot of corners being cut, then as competition increases, these products can become lower and lower in quality until they become rubbish - but most people still buy them because they won't pay for a "proper" one. People usually get what they pay for. Frankly, if you've had nothing but trouble for many years with your washing machines and think they are rubbish, it's possibly because you won't pay up for a good one. To be fair though, most people just don't think of it like this, or aren't even aware that high quality washing machines are available. ( If you're thinking, "what does he mean, I paid a lot of money for my last washing machine?" Read this - If I buy a more expensive washing machine do I actually get a better one? ) The manufacturers who have decided to compete in the most competitive price range, must keep their washing machines strictly within this price range at all costs. As manufacturing costs constantly increase, they daren't pass on the costs to customers. Manufacturing costs constantly have to be cut to maintain the final selling price and stay in the competition. To be fair, many cost savings are achieved with improved manufacturing techniques and other methods, but there's only so far you can go without having to start compromising quality. What's wrong with the majority of washing machine manufacturers? Ultimately, the obsession with supplying washing machines at ridiculously cheap prices has resulted in a plethora of virtually throwaway washing machines. These washing machines are noisy in operation, dance around the kitchen, and suffer long known about and totally unnecessary breakdowns. I've seen mains cables and fill hoses get so short they don't even reach in many situations. Many washing machines now have basic time-locks which make a customer wait two minutes to open the door whereas before they had more sophisticated (and more expensive) systems that let the customer into the machine as soon as it stopped. Over the last 30 years, I've seen many individual parts getting cheaper - but much poorer in quality. Dozens of metal parts have been replaced by plastic parts, and parts that used to be repaired if a minor fault occurred, now only come as complete items. The worst example of this is when a simple coil goes open circuit on a motor, or a bearing wears. The only option on many of the cheaper washing machines is to fit a whole new motor which costs nearly as much as the machine did in the first place. This, is one of the hidden costs of cheap washing machines. In fact, many of these manufacturers now appear to rely heavily on the profit from supplying spare parts to make up the shortfall in profit from making the washing machines in the first place. If this is the case, then they don't have much incentive to improve the quality of some of the parts inside. Of course, if quality was too poor, it could start to get counter-productive, so a suspicion is that many washing machine manufacturers keep their product just reliable enough to keep people buying, but unreliable enough to make lots of profit on the spares. Of course, this could just be an inevitable side effect of trying to keep prices artificially low as discussed here, Do new washing machines have built-in obsolescence? Are there any downsides to Miele washing machines? There are two downsides. The first is obvious, and that is cost. A quality washing machine simply costs more. More to buy and more to repair. The second potential downside is that there are very few independent washing machine repairers that repair Miele washing machines, and there is a small percentage who will have a go, but don't have the equipment and knowledge to do it properly. Unless a fault was very simple, they could end up wasting your time and money. At worse they could totally misdiagnose the fault, or lacking the computer laptop and diagnostic software carried by Miele engineers, could be unable to diagnose or even calibrate the machine

Electrolux Front Load Washers And Dryers
lapena replied to adrian_john's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Well electrolux is still a gd mid range brand to consider, and it recently has a new range of washers out, with its famed jet wash technology, particularly 1 top range model that i checked out, (forgot the model but its made in italy with 1400rpm).Of course most of its models r made in thailand nowadays, due to need to suppress prices to maintain market share, n profitability. Huge conglomerates have to do this, especially if its listed with many shareholders. However i will avoid the low end models below $800.Seriously, u really cant get a decent front load washer below $1k these days. Gone are the days where a washer lasts more than 10 yrs, except miele probably. Bosch is also not bad, but it depends on models too, so choose carefully, pay attention to rpm, build structure.. I wld not choose Brandt, its virtually unheard of in europe, u cant even get a proper review of it, except in sg, where brandt asia is doing heavy marketing!Which explains its popularity here. I still maintain my doubts about asian front loads, with all its gimmicky features..Though some readers may disagree, its just my opinion. Anyway happy shopping for the GSS!! I still love my miele! This is the opening quote from the independant repairman's forum on washer in uk, www.washerhelp.co.uk which i fully subscribe to.. What's wrong with the majority of washing machine manufacturers? There is no such thing as a perfect machine. N i agree that even pedigrees like miele or aeg do have problems sometimes, as ultimately it depends on the user. What u put in matters, like do u wash king size duvets n so on. If so, prepare for future suspensions problems. However, my preference on continental brands stems from observations n consumer reviews worldwide,. Lg, i would'nt say is bad, but if to choose between them and a mid range bosch i will still go for bosch. To quote from the umbrella of technicians body in the uk, www.washerhelp.co.uk, " Lg is quite new in this direct drive technology to give a favourable opinion on its effectiveness. And also, I gave favourable marks to old makes like Aeg(no more in the market), old thomson( before it was bought by brandt), Bosch, electrolux, and the rolls royce brand,Miele, is because they have been around for 100 yrs and been reliable till now.. Without the need for dd motors, their suspensions and belt never gave way before. So its ironic that Lg came out and say this is better, or the steam wash kills bacteria.as what I know, 60deg hot washes kills all bacteria already.. Anyway , this is all personal opinions on my part.. Happy shopping.
-
u can read my reply on the lg washer page. But anyway I was @ the rdshow. Of cos they have to clear it was going for so cheap almost shaved a third off its usual price.. Anyway, pls avoid 2-in 1 if u can. Its not really worth it as they took a long time to dry and it spoils faster, regardless of brands,. And according to consumer reviews in europe, Lg has 1 of the worst repairs records in the front load market, the next being, ariston, indesit. As for the steam function, frankly speaking, it was 1 of the needless function to have for a front load. Manufacturers often like to market unnecessary new features, hype it up, to sell their supposedly high end model, only to drastically reduce prices if the new models are not on par. Remember AG ions anyone?? Now even cheap samsung top load at less than $300 have that feature.. But i remember 4 yrs back it was touted as the bacteria killing feature. Good old brands like Miele, bosch, Aeg don't subscribe to all that but they have been successful for so long. Btw I dont think the steam washer is expensive. The last retail price I checked was, $1999, 1400rpm, dd motor, 8kg capacity, made in korea. Comparison, Miele w1714, $3180, 1400 rpm, made in germany.. 6kg. Wow, suddenly Lg seemed cheap, isnt it?? But think bout it, why do u think that an Lg is exp when it costs more than 1k?? Because Its Lg, precisely...

Well the debate is currently on in the US on either go for cheap electrical gds but change more often, or ploughed for more quality items but changed less often.. Esp in recession hit US where every penny spent is scrutinised. However, do take note, there is nothing in white goods that is cheap n good. But expensive may not b worthwhile, depending on what is the features u need in ur washer. My opinion is that LG, as an asian top load brand, lacks experience in f/load market. Last I checked its 11kg direct drive washer/dryer has gone down from $1999 to $999/= within the span of 1 yr.With low-end brands this is the problem, if new models do not hit a specific target sales within a certain period of time, it has to drastically reduce prices to survive. If the dd washer is a success in the continental market, the prices would not have to go down so much.. Look at the ultra high end miele, its prices r still constant even in this down market!!Last i checked at the taka rdshow the miele w1714 washer has even increased prices from $3140 to $3180 from a yr plus back. I suggest a mid range bosch@ around 1k if u r really going for a reasonable washer...
-
congrats.. i been there as well n bought the steam oven @ $200 off retail price.. U got discount?
-
No offence intended, but after seeing how it works, n comparing it to the miele steam oven, I bought the miele steam oven @ $1980 from the taka rdshow! I think the miele dg1050 steam oven is the real steam oven as compared to the sharp water oven, which drastically cut prices since its launch 3 yrs back.

dyson vacuum is mada in malaysia, while any miele is made in germany! A search of miele vacs on google will have seen reviews by which? a consumer body in uk as miele being the most reliable brand for vacs with many best buys. In comparison. a dyson is rated unreliable! A miele has 360deg castor rubberised wheels which improved mobility, while a dyson has 2 big wheels at the back. It is noisy, clumsy, and the worst of all, a bagless being a bagless, its unhygenic to pour away all ur dust in a bin.Imagine the billowing dust, as an after-effect. Do u want to clean up the bun after emptying? In comparison, a miele has a 9 layer hyclean bag that seals after its full, ensuring no dust seeps out, n emptying is easy. The only advantage dyson is selling is No running costs as they claimed to have a lifetime hepa filter that needs only washing after every couple of mths. In comparison u have to purchase bags n filters from miele @ $28 for a box of 4 which lasts roughly a yr and a half. However as in air purifiers, do u all believed in Permanent filters that dun need changing? Over time the hepa lining will deteoriates after countless washing, and the truth is, dyson is playing on Saving money marketing to entice u, while miele is emphasizing efficient cleaning, durability, and hygiene,, albeit at a cost! Well, is $28 every year a huge price to pay for hygiene???
-
sorry never heard..prefer european brands like de detriech or miele.hmm..maybe some other users can feedback?
-
I think the best buy is the miele combisteam oven, with cleansteel exterior. It is the best for baking, roasting n steaming. Its the must have for all pastry chefs. But thre price tag is around $5k. http://www.designawards.com.au/application...licationID=5254

Anyone using a steam oven?Im thinking of buying a miele dg1050 steam oven @ck tang $2180,with 12% rebates http://www.mielesteamoven.com/

Haha hope ur hitachi serves u well, n i think harvey norman now has super cheap sales below costs price, so mayb u can check out ur other items over there. Hmm.. There r always pros n cons for either european front loads or asian top loads.Front loaders take loner time to wash n definitely not supposed to wash king size comforters. However top loaders tend to damage clothes more, but have shorter washing cycle. So to each their preference. For top brands like miele,u really have to look at their history to c y they r so highly sought after, n reliability issues. They r a family company since 1899, unlike conglomerates like samsung/lg/hitachi. They r the only company that never borrow money from any banks to sustain their expansion. So to say they will be bought over,is as likely s warren buffett will go bankrupy. There r many like minded ppl like me who is blinded by loyalty over this brand because, they never compromise on the quality, although more expensive, they r likely to save u money over the long term. These have been proven through the annual readers digest report that rates them the best brand for home appliances. Scroll through the web,u will see y users around the world will only swear by mieles. Its in time like these that u need a quality durable product that lasts, rather than cheap products that u change every 2-3 yrs.In fact i have friends who think that changing home appliances every 3 yrs is the norm, because nothing lasts for more than that these days, so they gotten used to the idea.N that is exactly the reason y ppl scoff at, or doubt that amiele lasts 20yrs, because they haven used anything for that long before... Haha.lastly, im not saying other brands not good, just that there is a reason y miele is so expensive. Its the piece of mind u get after buying their product.thats y..So hope there is no brickbats from others here in this forum..

Looking at things from a clearer perspective, allow me to add some comments. This is the trend that has been going on for many yrs.All dept stores have promoters selling thir own particular brands. It is fully endorsed n required by the store that the promoters wear the same uniforms as the staffs.Ican understand some frustrations as if u r being "duped",but u have to understand y this is being practiced. The promoters from the particular brand may b more familiar with the specs of the products they r selling, hence they wull tell u the benefits of that brand over others. If there is no promoters,I can tell u, just the staff at the electrical store u go to will not know much about all the brands.U will not have a more informed knowledge of the products.Even if there r no promoters,do u know that every brand reps actually give different incentives for a particular models to clear. So if brand A wants to clear this product n so forth, they will give special incentive to this store.Den the staff will know which brand to push more.It actually happens. So in the end it goes back to the same thing.Y cant they just wear the own brand shirts?Simple, the stores want the promoters n staff to have some form of "UNIFORMED APPROACH" in serving customers n ultimately to be able to help customers even though there r some products not within their range to sell. For eg if u want to buy philips tv,will u b offended if a guy wearing sony t shirt say,Im sorry i only sell sony. However i do understand ur frustrations at some salesmen. I luv a very expensive brand of home appliances called miele.I swore by this brand as i know they will last n last.N i have been using the washer all my life.So it is so often i get served by promoters from other brands that says,ya brand name only la,u want to spend 2k on miele? If really so gd y not give 20 yrs warranty.. Yes i was put off too!! But I still hear whether his arguments for a cheaper brand gives weight. If he says something that is rude, get his name,COMPLAIN. But if he is trying to sway u in a reasonable way, then by all means listen, n do ur homewrk see if it makes sense. Do u knw that in europe, most ppl do homework before they buy their electrical products. They check on forums, specs n so forth.Over here,i think ppl buy things based on hearsay. So i always think its an ignorance issue. Im not critisizing ur genuine kind intentions on warning bout such practices by sales staff at electrical stores. But this is rampant n encouraged.Even if u go guardian, there r aunties ask u wan to buy A brand cleanser, better than B brand.. But to clarify on these issues.U R A CUSTOMER,U RESERVE UR RIGHT TO COMPLAIN.If a salesmen dare to tell me a LIEBHERR fridge is made in china, or a Miele washer is made in thailand, immediately i will find the manager n complain!Because this is false statement! I did my homework so i know im beiing duped.Trust me the store manager will b more than willing to call the brand manager to replace the so called promoter. To cap these long essay,if u wondering whether i know my stuffs to comment on these,my wife is a dept store manager,n my brother is sales buyer for an electrical company.I have worked part time as a promoter during my youth.

liebherr,affordable desighner fridge
-
ya..u should! i never buy frm courts! They r a big time discount store..But lousy srvice!!
-
Haha thats great for u.Wow ur wife must b impressed.I hate maintenance,so i dun buy that when it was offered to me.I used a karcher steamer for the sofa n chairs n a small miele vac instead as the lady wants a small machine.
