as a result of that i actually developed the habit of always drying my wall tiles with a towel after every shower. A habit that has carried through til today and one that helps prevent mould from building up in the shower area. :-)

I can only imagine how unpleasant it must be to live there while the reno is going on. How do you deal with the dust and the mess?

Just a suggestion. you may want to install an effective ventillation fan in your bathroom. I used what looks like the same tiles as yours in the past and found that after a while they tended to give off a terrible smell when wet, almost like puke. I had to air the entire toilet each time after a shower and place a fan in the toilet to air dry the tiles after every shower. I think those tiles are often used in outdoor areas such as water features and in open areas that are well ventilated. I hope the problem I faced was unique to my bathroom onlybut you might just want to take the precaution and install good ventillation fan.

Any movers to recommend?
everton replied to koras's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
had a nightmarish experience with Astro movers. They were cheap but living proof that you get what you pay for. They never showed up on the day they were supposed to despite the fact that I had confirmed my move with them 2 months before hand and again reconfirmed 2 days before the actual move. Their total lack of professionalism caused me so much inconvenience and grief. -
Definitely not. I'm sure the only person that advise you to put a deposit was the salesperson......and she/he has only your best interest at heart............not.

Errrr.... Why does the clock stop at 3? did the movers drop it?

I'm so sorry about the quote. -
Haha. That's the way goods are manufactured througout the world. Not possible for raw materials to always originate from the same country in which the product is designed or manufactured in.

I'm using Teka Expressions for my microwave, oven and induction hob. Bought it from Rina's at Shaw Centre. When I installed them earleir this year the main Teka branch at UE square wasn't carrying this range yet, I dont know about now though. You can also find an outlet at Parkmall that sells this range. I've had no problems so far.... though I don't do a lot baking or grilling with the oven. It does have the pyrolytic cleaning functionThe microwave, oven and hob cost about 6k in total, but I cant remember the exact breakdown of each.

Yes, I believe they are. I bought one earlier this year from an outlet at sungei kadut. I was torn between the KG and and a Domicil from XZQT. In the end i went with the KG and have no regrets. I'm no expert on furniture, but I find the leather that they use in their sofas to be of a much higher grade then many others I've seen being sold in other furniture stores

Renovation Quotation?
everton replied to bobbybz's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
The VO will come about once you depart from the base material/product that comes with the package. For example, if the package includes tiles within a certain price range ($2.00-$2.20) but your prefernce is a particulartype that costs $2.80 then that difference will go into the variation order. If you know exactly what kind of tiles you want you should clarify with your designer to make sure it falls within the range they are offering. The same thing will apply to the fittings that they provide eg sanitary ware etc. Best to ask him to list the price of the items he's supplying. eg toilet bowls, sinks, mixers etc. That way if you dont like what he has and would rather get your own, then make sure that he deducts the price of each of those items from the original quote. My guess is that the items such as heaters, mixers, sanitary ware will be pretty basic. You may want to tell him then to deduct the cost of all those items and get them yourself. At least that will give you the option of getting something that's of a better quality. -
What Do You Think Of The Feature Wall?
everton replied to belquek's topic in Living, Dining & Storage
Agree. I love the wall colour. -
Nope. Not for sure. I also dont think HDB ceilings are high enough to construct a loft.

I would definitely install a large mirror to give you the illisuion of space. Even though it's just an illusion, it makes a big psychological difference, to me at least, as it helps eliminate any feeling of claustrophobia. Agree with the other suggestion about using low furniture too. Not a big fan of curtains being used to replace doors though. Not sure about the feng shui part, but I think it depends on where you place the mirrror

Probably just a plaster crack and not anything serious. You could probably touch it up yourself with wall putty and paint over the area. Very common problem in newly renovated/built homes. Just monitor and make sure the crack doesn't get any wider. If you can fit a five cent coin in between the gaps then you might want to get a professional to look at it, but if it's just a hairline crack it shouldnt be anything to worry abt.

Small Insects In Rice
everton replied to Deodar's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
I usually get small bags of rice and store it in the fridge. Haven't had a single weevil visit yet. -
Country style furniture was the rage in Singapore in the early 90s. There were loads of stores selling such furniture. Many have since closed. One well known store was Pennsylvania House ( I think that was what it was called. it sold mainly country and American style furniture) which ran into some serious financial trouble that was reported in the press. They took deposits on their furniture right up to the day before they shut down and never delivered or returned buyers' deposits either. Sorry I can't help much in terms of where to get such furniture. the only one I've heard of is at IFC at Sungei Kadut, but you already know of that one.

Modern American Home Design
everton replied to desireeh's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
I believe the Design HQ originates in Denmark but one of their in house designers at their Devonshire store told me they actually manufacture their furniture in China. Not necessarily a bad thing if they keep to strict QC measures, which I imagine they do. -
nice doors. I love the contrast of the doors and the walls and floor.

Modern American Home Design
everton replied to desireeh's topic in Moving House: Packing, Storing, Moving To Your New House
Like many other things, Bo Concepts products are made in China. But their designs are quite nice and their finishings not bad either. Modern contemporary mostly. Their flagship store at Devonshire is bigger than the one in Paragon, I think. -
My current house faces north west and has afternoon sun from abt 4:30 to 6:30. but strangely it's not nearly as hot as my previous one which faced east and got the morning sun. I installed wooden blinds in the living room to shield the sun from coming through. The good thing I find abt using such wooden blinds is it allows me to adjust the tilt so that while sunlight still comes it doesn't enter directly into the room. I would avoid using curtains if you get the afternoon sun as the only way to keep the sun out is to close the curtains completely, which leaves the house very dark.

5 figures? you could've got that silk rug from Voschs. :-) BTW Love the apt. -
Thanks Hermes. Most of the shops I went to didnt have the size i was looking for. It's a less common size and not many shops carry rugs in those dimensions, apart from some of those selling persian rugs. I actually almost bought a rug from this shop near Tanglin mall. It was the right size and the design was quite nice, but when it came time to pay for it they wanted to charge me an extra 3 percent for using my credit card which I thought was totally absurd and GST. I couldnt believe these guys. Here they are operating a boutique along Tanglin road and their GST isnt' already factored into their price? At one point the guy even had the cheek to say its only 3% for using the credit card. I eventually left without buying the rug. Believe it or not the next day he calls me (He had my no as I'd called the shop and spoken wiht him before going down) and says he discussed the matter with his boss and 'because I'm a "first time customer " they would waive the 3%. HA! The crazy thing is I actually had my credit card out of my wallet and was about to hand it to the guy to charge the rug.....but he blew it.
