  1. Dear EL I've been following this thread over the last couple of days and I must say I think you've handled the questions most professionally; certainly much better than numerous other retailers I've come across on this and other forums. You've demonstrated, to me at least, that EL is a credible and creditable outfit that gives more than two hoots about customer satisfaction. So well done. Some of the questions you've had to deal with have been rather challenging, but I think you've handled them well. Where you've been able to answer them, you did, where you weren't, you apologized and took responsibility, and where errors were made, you attempted to rectify them. And that's really about as much as one can ask or expect of you or EL.
  2. yes. while the increase in the value of the property is only on paper the payment of increased property tax is in real dollars. So how does high property prices benefit a person with only one property..... It doesn't. Unless of course you don't plan on living in Singapore forever and decide instead to cash out and live somewhere else.
  3. Yup. I think the saleswoman isn't be very upfront with you. 230cm probably won't fit in many/most lifts, but should have no problem if using the stairwell. Had the same issue with my sofa. It was too large to fit into the lift and so the deliverymen had to carry it up 10 floors. Paid them an extra 100 dollars for their effort.
  4. Perhaps you could show us a picture of your flooring to highlight what you mean.
  5. the standard clause as far as I know is that you just lose any deposit that you've already given him....it's usually in the range of 500-1000 dollars. I'm not sure how binding that 30% clause is. I can't see any sound justification for him to insist on the 30%. Simply tell him you can't afford to do the renovation any longer. Tell him he's right, you don't have the money, and move on to another company.
  6. Kool. exactly the same colour scheme as my previous home
  7. Isn't there a rule that prohibits you from placing items in common spaces? I think the fire hazard reason is one that is often cited.
  8. You Shld definitely bring it to case if you say the work hasn't been done properly and he's not intending to rectify the faults. It Shld be sop to do a walk thru of the flat before handing it back to u. And when he does all Shld be in order. I had a similar experience wth workers scratching my laminate and my ID made them replace every piece tt was not in perfect condition. As for painting the sides of your console, that's absurd. How much can laminate cost him??! And if the glass pieces were agreed on before hand then insist that he honors it.
  9. Its probably in the ball park. If you're comfortable with the amount and, more importantly, with the person who's going to manage the project for you, then go for it, but ask him for a bit of discount. If you're looking for the cheapest , then take your quote to a half dozen other id firms or contractors and i'm pretty sure that if they bother to give you a quote it'll probably be lower...... if they want the project. Whether they'll do a good job or not ....you'll find out soon enough, I guess. But......the Lowest quote doesn't always yield the best result, in fact, it often doesn't.
  10. haha. there's truth to that indeed. I used to have a dishwasher when I lived overseas and it really works best if you rinse the dishes first before placing them in the dishwasher. I don't know what dishwashers are like these days, but I don't think they've come up with one that scrubs, or have they?
  11. SOMEONE ought to kick his cheatin' contractor's butt all around Singapore...across to JB.....and some might even say into Batam as well. SOMEONE, are you reading this????
  12. I fully agree . It's daylight robbery. If yours is a new condo then he ought to be reimbursing you for the damage done to the parquet and marble. How dare he charge you to rectify the damage he's caused. $950 to repaint walls? @($( ...... he is supposed to touch up the walls and paint over any dirt or parts that were not completed before handing the house back over to you. The house should be in pristine condition when he hands it over to you. If you've already paid him $600 for it, then tell him he needs to deliver properly repainted walls.....a**h*** $950 for 5 power points, concealed or not that is absolutely ridiculous $650 for a bifold door?????? tell him you'll buy him a new one. Did you agree to the pricing before he installed and made good on these items? unless you've signed on something, don't pay him. I really hope you are witholding some of his payment. Sorry, but I am flipping out at the nerve of this chap.
  13. It sounds nice enough. Color scheme seems to match nicely. Not a big fan of velvet curtains, I think thy're hot, heavy and get dusty and dirty easily; and they can't be machine washed.... but if YOU like it....power to you! Teak dining table is evergreen. And, I love the illusion of space that a large mirror gives. It works for me! But there's only one question that matters , "do you like it"?
  14. haha. my boys would love that on their bedroom walls. Too bad it's the wrong side of Mersey.
  15. Be careful with the kind of wallpaper you use though. If it's uneven, and you use a farily plain design, the uneveness will be quite conspicuous. You'll very likely see the undulations even with wall paper. In fact, it could look even more pronounced as the wall paper might draw your attention to the wall even more then if you left it alone and just painted it white. If you really want to use wall paper( which I think is a great idea) it's better to use more elaborate designs if the wall is uneven, but too many walls with elaborate designs might look to 'loud' even claustrophobic or night clubbish. If you can afford it, it's best to plaster the wall before papering it. It looks nicest on a completely even wall.
  16. Nope, I had the same problem too.
  17. I absolutely agree. Am using wooden blinds for the entire house. No hassle in cleaning. You are right I just wipe it once a month with one of those 'magic' dusters.....easy. I don't know why some people think curtains don't get as dirty. I think the only difference is that you just dont' see the dirt to know it's there, but it definitely is , and, its much more difficult to clean curtains than blinds. What with having to remove them from the rails and then removing the hooks.... I've used curtains and I've used blinds and, personally, I dont think I'll ever go back to curtains.
  18. haha it reads like scene from a PCK episode.
  19. I had the same issue. I used a strip of high gloss black laminate that runs just above the top of backsplash. It's( the laminate strip) about 4 inches in ht and just below the the base of the upper cabinet. My switches are placed on that laminate strip. Directly under the laminate strip is the glass backsplash. henc ethe switches don't actually have to be placed on the glass back splash.
  20. Hmm. I bought a Kelvin Giormani three seater and a single seater last year. Am most happy with both products. I was told the sofa was manufactured in Hong Kong but that the leather (maserato?? spelling) is from Italy. (The sales person also explained they have several different grades of leather (orvetti? sp again) to some really high end leather which I absolutely loved, but was beyond my budget. Notwithstanding, I thought even the less expensive grades they carry appeared to be of good quality. Personally, I really do like their furniture and designs and I think their prices, for what you get, are very reasonable. Have gone window shopping and seen 20-40k sofas, and I honestly don't see much difference between the two. No offence to furniture aficionados, of course. I'm no expert in designer or high-end furniture, so I'm sure there is indeed a big difference. It's just my untrained eye can't discern it too wel..
