  1. wow, your room looks very good. I like the effect of the string curtain in front of your study area. Gives you some privacy, yet does not block out light/ventilation. I think you have organised your room space very well. Looks very cosy, inspite of the cool black & white theme.
  2. Changed bedcovers for the Lunar New Year! Son's room My room Silk quilt covers were from Hanoi. Living room Before After The sofa has followed me through 3 apartments (this is the third). It was just right for the first place, too big for the interim apartment, and now looks too small for my current place. But since I just paid $250 to do a foam cushion insert, and $690 for the fabric back cushion covers, it's good for another 2-3 years, so it'll stay. Sheer livinng room curtains were from previous apartment; I got MGL to alter the width to fit these windows. The length was a perfect fit! Happy lunar new year, everyone!
  3. I'm writing this in my new home Was up till 3am last night, and up again at 5.30 this morning, to do las minute packing. Last time I moved, I was still packing when the movers came; this time round, I has waiting for the movers with nothing to do. Movers came at 9.15am, took an hour to wrap stuff, and move 20 boxes, 1 piano, 1 dining table, 1 washing machine, 1 fridge, 2 TVs, chairs, 1 L-shape sofa, 2 bookcases, and assorted small items. While they took a short drive to my new place, I took a 20-minute walk, carrying a couple of breakables, and a plant. I really felt sorry for them, the boss, his wife, and their 2 local workers. They had to carry everything up 1 floor because my unit is not on lift level. They finished at about 12.15pm. Worked hard all afternoon to unpack. Think I'm about 70% done. It really helps that there is a lot of storage in the house, so things disappear behind doors. My house will only be fully done in March, when my coffee-table/seater, and my dining table, are delivered. Son's room My room
  4. Congratulations on your new purchase. House looks to be in pretty good condition.
  5. Hotel style flat sheet go over the bedsheet & under the quilt. It's to keep the quilt clean. I'm referring to the old-style flat sheet which is used in place of fitted sheets. Ask your mum, she will know. They are not easy to find these days cos pple prefer the convenience of fitted sheets. But I like my bedsheet really taut and flat, so I still use flat sheets It's quite tricky buying flat sheets; if it has a nice border along 1 edge, then it is meant to be used under the quilt. A flat sheet that is used as a bedsheet has a normal hem on all 4 sides.
  6. You go and see the unit, then you make a reasonable offer. Usually, you have to know what the valuation is, so you don't offer too high COV, or u don't insult the owner by making a ridiculously low offer before valuation. Alternatively, you may offer a certain amount above/below valuation, or at valuation, if the valuation report is not available yet. I would ask if there were previous offers and how much, then I work out how much I would need to spend on reno, before making an offer.
  7. yeah, I tried imageshack and found the fotos are resized way too small. Use photobucket, but I think must first reduce the image size, cos the first time I uploaded images from photobucket, they appeared really big, even though I had reduced the file size.
  8. thanks for the tip. Very useful for me too
  9. I got APEX5 to re-do the covering on my dining bench/chairs & do a new foam insert for the L- portion of my sofa. They do housecalls, so very convenient. They have website, so you can have a look at the materials they supply. I think v difficult to say 'how much', because it depends on your measurements. Downside is, they have limited materials to choose from. I went to J&S at Plaza Singapura to do 3 pieces of sofa back cushion covers. Cost me almost $700, but I have been using them for several years for both sofa covers & curtains. Gorgeous materials. By now, the cost of just covers made for my sofa far exceeds the original cost of the sofa, but I think it is worth it if the sofa is a good one & fits the house.
  10. very nicely done up. love your llights & your kitchen sink. So glam
  11. Robinsons. they have the best range of decent quality sheets with high threadcount. I was there on Sun, there was a 20% off on top of current discounts. I bought two sets of white Queen flat sheets & pillow cases from King Koil & a Queen size quilt from Dorma for about $300. Having them delivered on Friday I know for sure they have flat sheets in black, but not so sure about fitted sheets. A lot of the fitted sheets have prints. Re: price of lamp post? dunno. My son stopped me from seriously considering, so I ddn't check the price.
  12. Congratulations on your new home Your floor area doesn't look small. Looking forward to your pix.
  13. shifu managed to fix the leaky cistern, but he's clueless about windows. Don't think tightening the screws would help. There's just no catch for opening the casement windows at specific degrees. Nevermind lah, live with it first oh dear, isn't the handle screwed on? unless it is fused to the frame, I thot anything can be dismantled? Reno shifu quite cute... so far he’s had to replace two bedroom door handles cos the wind blew the door shut & and it locked on inside, and 1 downlight cos he damaged it while taking it down before painting. He said no charge, cos he’s has these spare items sitting around at home. He also replaced my bathroom hook with something he took from his home
  14. I think it is a scaled down version of street lamp. Don't exactly remember, but can't be taller than 6 feet Hmm, maybe next to dining table, then can pretend we are eating at roadside stall unfortunately, we have big ceiling fan w lites, spoil the look.
  15. hi Rondy. I got this from Universal Union (somewhere in Geylang). It is by TAME. TAME has a showroom somewhere in Tagore, I dunno how to go there, so went to one of their distributors. Max legth of rod is 6 feet, max 4 rods. This has only 1 pulley, so all go up, or all come down. $398 + GST. There is another system that is individually controlled, so you can raise the 4 rods to different heights. TAME has a website, jus google it.
  16. street lamp very big piece. I think about it already feel very tired. You say it took an hour to put up I think easier to buy real street lamp. I saw one in Thomson Lighting, and today, I say a v nice standing lamp with stand like street lamp, but colured glass shade.
  17. Congratulations on your latest big ticket item
  18. My mum & sis came to see the place last nite after reunion dinner; they didn't believe the house would be ready before CNY. I told shifu today, and he really sped up Today, he completed the painting, and connecting all the lights. My living room wall needed 6 coats of paint! Shifu said it's because it has not been painted for a very long time (last paint job was 10 years ago), and then, they used watered-down paint. So the walls now need to absorb a lot of paint My bedroom, one wall in ICI Mysterious. Today, my reno shifu changed a maindoor lockset for the first time in his life :-) He scratched the metal finish, but it's ok lah, whatever gets the job done. He was very pleased with himself, and I added that he has just added to his repertoire of skills. This is my shoe cabinet, done by previous owner. Love it, I've never had a shoe cabinet this size before.
  19. my retractable laundry dryer Can stop at any level, but it needs a lot of allowance at the sides, so even though the space is almost 6 feet, the poles are about 4 feet.
  20. mine common corridor unit, next to corner. Corridor nice & wide, almost 2 m. I see some of the other coomon corridor units also dry their laundry outside their house, but I feel v pai-seh to do the same; not used to it. I'll prob have to do so with big items like sheets & quilt covers, cos the common corridor gets good afternoon sun.
  21. very exciting to receive packages in the post your decals are lovely. very tempted. I like the one of the street lamp. but anything requiring meticulous & systematic work is a no-no. Do your walls have to be very smooth in order for the decal to look good?
  22. okie, will do so tomorrow. Forgot to take photos today. Quite disappointed, because the space is small, so each pole is only about 4 feet long. I dunno how I'm going to hang sheets & quilt covers.
  23. hello Yokine9a. Me also in Lorong 1, but at the other end, near SPH, jus behind Beatty Secondary School. I was at the flat all day today, not a squeak from the school, not even school bell. Your area quite nice, convenient to public transport, though I notice many people taking the bus 1 stop to get to the MRT station. Your side, if you are on high enough floor can see fireworks? I signed OTP in July, before the economic downturn. But newspaper reports say the HBD resale prices were still inching up in the last quarter of 2008. My reno shifu estimated that the previous owners' reno must have cost close to $80k, because they used very good quality wood, and in vast quantity. Good thing I don't mind the woody look, cos I see a lot of forummers tear the whole house out and re-do to get the look they want. Me, I'm still wondering whether I should replace rusty dishdrainer, the badly tarnished drawer pulls in the kitchen, the casement windows that slam shut with strong wind, and with shrunken rubber sealant, the leaking water cistern etc. Some people cannot stand their house having so many 'defects', but I'm very old-generation... can use, use lor But I spend a lot of $ on soft furnishings. Just went J&S to get 3 back cushion covers made for my sofa... almost $700! Now thinking of curtains for MBR Thanks Pinkpetter. Jus feeling quite 'fan'. Reno shifu keeps asking me questions like which power point casing I prefer. Model A looks v similar to B. Model A functions in exactly the same way as B - hide the wires and provide on-off mechanism. Why bother? Shui bian lah, don have to ask me. Duh... I don enjoy renovation process. Jus gimme a house I can move straight into
  24. Some of the lites to be replaced went up today. Dining area fan w lites, with living area lites in the background MBR toilet lite Tmr, my bedroom will get painted, the hot water storage tank gets installed, and TAME will come in to fix the retractable laundry dryer. Am quite tired from overseeing reno already. Also v tired of packing. Threw kitchen stuff into a couple of boxes today & got sister to drive them over to new place. But have several more boxes to go.
  25. Interesting, your sister's room is very fuss free & no frills. Not girly at all. Your parents' room looks huge. A lot of space in front of the wardrobe. Impressive wardrobe.
