hihi I'm using RnR (they also go by the name SpaceDefine I think). Just doing my kitchen, including hacking of existing kitchen flooring & cabinets, re-tiling, new upper & lower cabinets, and full-height glass walls for the utility area, it's about $20k. The price came as a shock to me; I had thot $10k would cover.

love your sofa... nice contrast with the cushions. Excellent to have multi-tasking furniture. Fabric sofas are more versatile... can play with colours and textures. covers can be sent for drycleaning. Some laundry shops provide the service of coming to your house to remove the covers, and then put them back. Leather also needs to be maintained, and I feel is harder to keep clean, cos they can't be stripped off the frame.

I paid $200 for a stainless steel kitchen worktop. Rusted after 3 months. My 2 sets of Billy bookcases are still holding up well after 5 years of use, stuffed with paperbacks. But the laminates on a couple of bedside tables ($60/piece) started peeling off after less than a year. The surface of my laptop table Dave bubbled and stained with the moisture less than 15 min after I placed a glass of cold water on it without a mat.

thanks for the info on Hock Siong furniture. I didn't know they did all that. I went some time back, saw some nice stuff, but was worried about the re-conditioning and delivery, so didn't buy. Aiyah, sayang. Maybe must go again soon, but now I don't need more furniture. cool bathroom, v streamlined. the patterned tile looks classy. Wah, I wish I can get away with jus 2 cooking hobs. What's that machine in the corner for? Quite cute & retro looking.

I bought a table fan (National, v new) for $30, a new waffle maker $20, a Braun handblender $15. v happy let people know what u are looking for... many people seem to have stuff stashed away that they don't mind giving away. U want a rectangular gold tablecloth with tassels on the corner? From China, V glam, Friend bought for me a few years ago, but I could never match to look of my house. I think quilt or bedcover completes the look of the bed, but Yokine9a is right, S'pore too hot & humid for quilt unless you sleep w aircon. I find my quilt v comforting, and it dresses up my otherwise boring bedsheet.

Hi aubrey I'm not sure wat u r referring to, cos I ddn't get much done. My reno shifu is unknown in this forum; he's really budget, and keen on helping client to save $. The downside is, he's not v careful... paintblobs, uneven painting/paintlines, wiring not well concealed by casing etc If u don't mind that, I can give you his contact number, but from reading this forum, I gather that most people are willing to pay more to get better workmanship.

Are the windows full-height? possible to run the shoe cabinet half-height along the stretch of windows? then can incorporate seat, and maybe planter? 1.6m quite wide.

I wish I could buy my corridor space... expand my little kingdom. btw, why cannot put shoerack outside house? got thief, or just unsightly? I've seen people put a cabinet in the space outside their door, and padlock the cabinet! I am testing out my neighbourhood by leaving a shoe rack with decent shoes outside my house but I strongly discourage my son from leaving his Timberlands out (but he still does)

My aircons leaking water last week, called aircon man in on Wed, did chemical wash on all 4 blowers, topped up gas on Wed. Worked well for 2nights, then Friday night, all the blowers couldn't blow out cold air. Rooms got stuffy w aircon on. Yesterday aircon man came again, say have to change compressor unit, $1450. I tried to bargain, so asked "Can give better price or not?" Aircon man sez "Good price oready. I need to get compressor from supplier. I'm not charging you much for installation. You can ask around." So I go "Oh, ok lor. I write you a cheque". Since I dunno what is the market price, and I'm too lazy to go do homework, caved in v fast

I used Fuhua Movers (Madam Pang 67585278) for my house moves this year and last year- husband & wife team, w two local Chinese workers. Not cheap, but good service. Quite careful with things.

$380, after a 40% discount I think. had to add $50 for delivery. really wanted to buy something else to make delivery for worth it, but couldn't find anything else to add on. Is Barang Barang stuff expensive? they seem to be forever having big discounts of 40-50%

curious about your laundry system.. can do a closer pix? "water stains on the kitchen sink, tap, kitchen cabinet laminates and solid surface top" - I think this is a normal problem. Any high gloss surface will tend to show up water marks when water is left to dry. It is often more obvious on black then on white, because of the reflection. It's very hard to maintain a sparkling shine on everything. Even dust will show up. There are products on the market that claim to reduce water marks, but they are normally used for glass. Best option, avoid wetting too many things. Use trays, table mats.
