HDB warranty still valid if i overlay their tiles? Or warranty is just if u retain everything as its original state? U have to decide quick wor.. u reno starting very soon. If dun like the idea of seeing MBR from main door, can build a cabinet along the walkway n act as a partition/display shelf. On behalf of my cats, thank u! Actually they act cute only, they always fight n bite each other...

No leh, my money deducted already, status approved already. Just pending the date now. According to her, HDB is still preparing the cheque for the balance COV to seller. Money long long ago deducted from our bank account n now they still preparing. Like that we cant plan our work properly, dunno which day gotta take leave to go 2nd appt. So frustrating..

congrats! finally see ur t-blog! What's ur reno plan n budget like?
-
ya, the marble floor looks gd enough for me to just shine n keep! that was partly the reason why i took this unit as well. Made a call to HDB this aftn, the officer-in-charge FINALLY picked up her phone! Asked her abt my 2nd appt date, still no news. Asked her how come those whose 1st appt later than mine already know their 2nd appt date, her reply was "could be because they take bank loan. Bank loan process faster, if u take HDB loan with HDB grant will be slower". HUH???!?!?!

Dun hi-five me, i also dunno how i'm gonna settle the loan approval thingy. Will dump it to my hub since its his uncle and loan also use his name. hope u can settle it soon too, reno itself is already such a hassle, now with the loan thing getting stuck. I think for contractors that are not doing wet works or window grills, they do not need a permit? i cant find my closet vendor inside the list as well, but they have been doing closet systems for many yrs. GST is only payable to those company that reaches a certain amt of turnover if i'm not wrong.

Do We Need To Do A Plastering A Wall With Rockstone ?
mrspiglet replied to ki2's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hihi, i think it depends on ur needs & wants in ur reno. I bought a resale flat with entire house rockstone painted as well, i want a sleek smooth look so i would think its necessary for me to plaster the whole unit. If ur budget allows n u really dislike the effect, u shd go ahead rather than regret after completing the reno. Its tougher to plaster ur whole unit after u have shifted it. My 2 cents worth. I've asked for many quotations and i realised there is a huge price difference in plastering between IDs and contractors. And i mean really HUGE. -
save money n time is confirmed. But my only worry is next time if the tiles pop, then it will be a horrible mess. My current flat 20+yrs floor tiles still super solid, but yday my mum knock knock the wall tiles, top row got hollow sound.. anytime will pop. Actually w the layout pple wun be able to see ur MBR bed directly right? i dun think i can see my mum's bed leh. Anyway its better than u find a space to make a storeroom replacement, otherwise u baby's nappy n toys will flood the whole house when he/she grows up?

ya, i think i got the shop right. Looks very classy from outside, but too bad its closed till Feb. Wanted to go there see if they still have the 1-pc WC promo. u got ur very much cheaper from what i've seen so far!
-
that's what some contractors recommended too. If the toilet's original tiles decided to 'pop' one day, i'll have bigger trouble than hacking now. i think the condition of the living rm HDB tiles are very gd. Mine is not giving me any problem since the day i shifted.. almost 20yrs liao. But i don't like the dark groutings, one of my neighbour actually 'painted' the grouting white all by herself! I think it shd make a gd base to overlay. The floor space is really huge if u were to hack it.

How come i dun see the bedside table despite going to Ikea so many times? must be blind liao... it really fits into ur room well! i tot it was a complete set with other furnitures.

Forced leave leh, company shutdown until tmr. I need to preserve my leaves.... Today was a wasted trip, almost ALL the shops in Geylang were closed. Even Hoe Kee! End up detour back to hub's place n slept my aftn away! The shop u recommended is the one displaying a v big buddha at the entrance right? I didn't happen to see the Jojo shop nearby leh...

I'm having the same problem as u! We are still considering if we are going to let hub's uncle handle the whole reno for us, meaning he will do all the coordination and we will pay to him. But the prob is most banks required the main con to be under HDB listing, of which his uncle is not. One reason i see is that he is doing only carpentry, so most of the time he is a sub-con which doesnt required permit as he's not doing wet works, hence no need for him to be accredited under HDB? If u r doing wet works, u shd get a contractor that is under the HDB list, safer that way i feel. But other way round is to get the wet works contractor (assuming he's under the list) to apply for the reno permit and the provide the quotation for bank loan as well.

I'm staying at the 200+ blks now, can see TPJC from my kitchen, that's y i ran to sch every morning last time. My current house shd be slightly older, 1984 if i'm not wrong. But will be shifting to my new house after reno... at 300+, still near TPJC.. haha! I think my new place toilet is also original HDB tiles, safe to overlay?
-
strawberry.. u so lucky to have ur dad renovating ur house! Ya, i'm gonna keep the marble flooring, don't intend to overlay at all. Just polish and make it shine like new (hopefully!). Grills i have to chge the living room n bedroom 3 ones.. cos common corridor and wanna chge to wrought iron, my mum doesnt feel safe w the current ones.... Tmr on leave... gonna go shop shop n check out the prices of the toilet stuff.
-
Gd gd, no frills means less maintenance too! No tap mixer for me as well, i wonder why would i need hot water to wash plates? hmm... u wun need TV in the bedroom becos u own the whole house! But no door bell... the postman gotta knock real hard on ur door! haha!
-
congrats on the completion of ur reno! Is ur bedside table from S&C too? I went over after work on Fri but they were closed. Had my Mellben beehoon crab for dinner instead. Hehe!
-
ur house's condition is very new n good. Can save u lots in reno. High floor somemore huh? Congrats! u have to click on the http link provided by photobucket and paste the http://..... into the box when u click on Insert image.

Congrats on ur new house! Which part of Tampines? Ur house layout is exactly the same as my current place... 4A corner unit, lift upgraded too Even flooring also the same...

Happy CNY to all!! ivy, pinkpetter: i'll hardly be cooking that's why i'm staying so near my mum. Depending on her to cook my meals for me after i get home from work. So at most we will be cooking only on wkends plus 1 or 2 days on wkdays. in fact i don't like deep fry stuff. But hubs like. So he's intending to invest in a deep frying so that i wun complain of the oil n smell staining the whole kitchen. So seems like plaster n paint sounds feasible for us in kitchen... Toilet wall i choose cheaper tiles as alternative then...
-
i've been trying to convince my hub to plaster n paint kitchen walls, n even just just cement screed the common toilet walls to cut cost (since its the 'in' thing now also). But he keep insisting very hard to maintain the walls in kitchen cos no tiles. Cement screed toilet walls he say gives a very dirty look. Very hard to please....

A Lights at Geylang? Post ur lights pics when u get a chance! ur 9 pieces dun include downlights?
-
nvm gal, let's work hard for it. I'm lucky that i dun have to do box up cos top level. But i have to spend on plastering cos whole house painted w rockstone paint previously. u can buy ur furnishing slowly, bit by bit. I'm putting my sofa, dining table, bookshelves n storage all on hold. At least my bank account gets to breathe a little. Understand perfectly! Was thinking of keeping kitchen flooring n wall tiles then hubs thinks like spent so much $ yet not here not there.. so decided to do flooring as well. I'm still hoping to just plaster n paint the kitchen walls to cut cost since i dun really cook often.
-
near = next room... My pocket is already v light. Not complete overhaul, i'm keeping my broken marble flooring. But kitchen n 2 toilets complete makeover. Plus electrical rewire lor. That will cost me another bomb. Share share how they rebate u after u pay ur tax!
-
i also agree, try not to eat in kitchen, very hot n stuffy. can shorten the kitchen n create a dining room at ur dining table area? I saw someone with half wall/half glass parition, makes ur dinning room looks cozy and yet not too cramp w the see-thru glass.
