  1. i guess the house is in such a perfect condition that they can shift in right after cleaning! Really very nice place, i like the greens too!
  2. wow! "Do not give me a budget; i do not like to be restricted by it..." then the sky's the limit?? Looking forward to ur 3D pics too!!
  3. gd that u found a contractor that's willing to throw in all the things for u! Will he be allowing u to pick the items or u just have to go with watever he buys? $46k seems like quite a gd price since most fittings r thrown in already.
  4. Hi marvin! u r not alone, i'm sure we all had our fair share/taste of Ah soon's aeroplane flying. But anyway since u know what is ur acceptance level, there are a few gd IDs recommendations in these forum for ur consideration too! Can anyone help me, pet/ivy/fannie? Uncle owes me 4 things (my key inclusive!) and i need someone to help me bug him!
  5. Fannie, ur pebble washed floor looks so nice! This is for the kids toilet entrance right?
  6. Agree with Angel, i checked out Maybank and RHB, both offered same rate (a few mths back) but Maybank stood out, cant rembr was it becos the admin charges were lower. Can just call up and check? Dun bother to go down to counter cos i went down and the sales wasnt even sure of what she was telling me. Ur kids so big liao!!! No grills can save money too. Anyway toilets tiling ard $4k (excluding hacking), plastering abt $1k+. Doing kitchen also? Those carpentry can buy offshelves for the time being to cut cost too. WC cannot shift position, but basin ok. Maybe play ard with the basin position to optimise the space?
  7. i was at the Philips carnival too! Almost bought the same set as u, was $229 right? In the end decided to get the 5.1 home threatre system at $299 instead. Would have love ur set, but my hubby wants his sub woofer. Got Crocs sales also leh, nvr go ah?
  8. ya, i read abt ur poor carpentry on Honeygal's t-blog. Was kinda surprised that HB gave that kinda service to u! i was recommended by my friend to approach HB for quotation, but heard from a coll that its super hard to get them to quote and i gave up. At least on the outside it still looks ok.... we still have poor lawry as a constant reminder for all house owners going thru reno!
  9. littleones Unfortunately i dun have pics of her bedroom. And i dun really keep in contact with this ex-coll, so cant help u on this. But roughly what she did was elevated her platform bed n its stretch across the width of the room all the way till the little entrance to toilet and do a step-down to WIW. Quite japanese style...
  10. fannie, u reminded me abt the toilet bowl story again. Complaining to Jason that they use my MBR toilet despite me taping it and writing there "Do not use" in chinese, and also throwing in some solid stuff (dunno its sand or plaster), Jason put his bare hands in and clean rub the bowl for me! :jawdrop: So booy, if possible install the WC last!!
  11. littleones Your proposed bedroom layout is exactly the same as one of my ex-coll's! Quite a gd idea. She did platform for her bed and a mini stairs that leads to the WIW. We had the same tot for our house initially, but not sure if we will be selling the house in future, so play safe didnt hack
  12. Metal i dunno what's my tiler's name, but its a m'sian with a group of younger m'sian workers doing the job with him. Looks a little like PRC thou. Rembr to tell them exactly what grouting colors u want, else by default they will do white! but when i ask them to dig out my wall's grouting and redo as grey, they did not give me any black face. As for bills, my hacking was ard $3. But the following mth where all the plumbing/tiling went on, plus a burst water pipe gushing whole night, my water only was $40+!!! Electrical wise was only ard $8+. Keep ur aircon and unplug the aircon socket ok? its not being stingy, i think they should be expecting to sweat it out in any reno works instead of enjoying the aircon.
  13. welcome!! Tampines Central, must have been expensive! Ur house look so big and bright, although old fashioned cabinets but the rest of the house seems decently well maintained! hmm.. It seems quite tough to find a position to build a new storeroom.. u'll be maintaining the current open kitchen concept?
  14. Ya, somehow i think their worker is not as well-verse with PD door installation. Cost price higher for them as well. Jason kept telling me the door is very expensive. But i like it that i can keep the doors closed tightly from outside even when no one is using, unlike bi-fold doors. Dun like the idea that my toilet door is facing my sink area lah. *smelly smelly* Uncle is so gd to chge the bedroom door for u FOC! Lucky u!
  15. gd 3D job smartie!! i think uncle loves gd and understanding customers like both of u!
  16. welcome! Such a lovely blessing from God! He must have heard ur prayers.
  17. WoW! was just away for 1 night and aubrey's thread was so eventful! First off, congrats Aubrey! u got ur switch problem settled!! I'm sure when u shift back into your house after reno and each time u look at the switches, u'll feel great abt it! Next, I'm so happy for Uncle that he has got so many gd clients ard, so many that appreciates what he does for us despite all the hiccups in the reno. We complain, we whine, but at the end of the day, we have to know what is the ultimate importance to us. To spend loads of $ to get an ID to 'manage' the project or to save the $ which can be put to better use elsewhere? ID also get contractors to do the job at the end of the day, what is the diff from engaging the contractor ourselves and cut the unnecessary cost of a middleman? FYI, the diff from uncle's quote and the cheapest ID quote was a 5digit diff for me too, despite only doing 2 toilets and kitchen. I dun mind even taking 1mths' leave to oversee the reno and save the 5digit, i dun even earn a 5-digit mthly pay!
  18. Metalsubzero jiayou! i know how it feels to see the works going so slow. In fact, it took them thurs-tues to hack my 2 toilets+kitchen. I was also quite unhappy why hacking takes them so long, but once hacking completed, tiling was super fast! I hope its gonna be the same for u too.
  19. Metalsubzero No need to tell ah soon ah. They will just do up the false ceiling with all the wiring, but u'll need to let him know how many lighting points, which switch to control which points. He covering the purchase of lights for u meh? I dun think so leh, his quote means he will do the wiring and installation, lights wise u'll still have to get urself? Unless he say he can buy the T5 lights for u.... But surely, downlights u'll have to buy urself.
  20. ya, i think it really covers lighting. Ask uncle to clarify wat the additional charges are for? If i'm not wrong abt the terminology, L-box is those thick thick ones u referring to. Typically to hide water/gas pipes that runs across the living room. I had that on wall where my sofa is placed, but the rest of the living room is pure flat false ceiling. I think u'll have to tell uncle u wan cove lighting where the downlights are leh. Anyway, with ur cove lightings, confirm single tube is sufficient liao.
  21. Metalsubzero My shoe cabinet only 4ft and half height too! I've filled up my 2ft and hub generously willing to spare me his last row, but still not enough! So a lot of shoes still hiding in storeroom. I think urs comes with lighting for false ceiling liao. I tot u only doing L-box? So its L-box with cove lighting ah? Anyway could it be possible that uncle is charging $400 for the additional powerpoints and changing of other power/light sockets? Think better to double check again... i know mine was all bundled in cos i didnt negotiate much on the final price, was like everything thrown in liao.
  22. Laminated floor... i think then u better nudge uncle a bit to cover everything. Else more trouble for him later, cos the workers are generally very rough! N make sure they dun remove until painting is over! my floor protection was removed after tiling completed. so when the painters came, they just use those typical plastic canvas to cover, end up my corners got paint stain which still remain after i shifted in, despite having acid cleaning and floor polishing. Not a major issue for me since my floor is marble, can just use nail polish remover to rub away, but i'm not sure if it's ok on ur laminated floor. Do take note of this ok?
  23. apples I think the installation plays a major part. Somehow i feel the getting the PD door company to do the installation will be better. Ah Hock only buy from them and install on behalf, so sometimes they may miss out certain things. My common toilet had some cracky sound after i shifted in, called them to check and realised the bottom of the door and some parts dropping out, hence the noise. After rectifications, both toilet doors are swee swee now
  24. pinkpetter: same here! i was struggling with the chinese i wanted to write and when gongkia saw it he wondered how come i so lihai know how to write! he was laughing all the way when i told him i check with the hp's hanyu pinyin. aubrey: agree that its frustrating when Jason goes on n goes and wastes time to yak away instead of putting more effort in concentrating. Hope ur HO is smooth smooth! Anyway, must must must rembr to tell the carpenter u wan undermount sink!
  25. Metalsubzero haha! not that ur design is bad lah, just that i prefer more evenly spread lights, personal preference only. I was thinking, with more switches to control single tube DLs, even if u on 4 10W at one time its still lower than turning on 2 of 2x13W. And more corners of the room will be lighted up. U can just do a flat false ceiling without L-box, I think the ceiling height shd still be ok. Actually i also quite like ur Design 3, but just worried that the centre portion not bright enough, otherwise its 7ft shoe cabinet is VERY long!! *envy* My 4ft already filled up liao, some still needs to go to the storeroom. i'm not sure how the electrical works is counted now, cos Pinkpetter was charged for it too but mine was thrown in FOC. Both of us didnt do re-wiring, uncle said my house still new, no need to do major overhaul. Oh ya, my false ceiling lightings were included in the false ceiling costing thou.
