  1. hi ilys my contractor told me that one square foot of wood for cabinate is about $230 - $250. so from my quotation of a 7 ft tv console, it cost me about $1610 based on $230 per foot. this may be the same or cheaper for the shoe cabinate. feature wall may cost you about $1300. hope this helps.
  2. hi km-foo, i can recommend my contractor to you if you are keen. i used his service for my house 8 years ago and will be using him again for my new house. initially i wanted to try out ho bee since he is so highly recommended in this forum. they gave me a quote and after comparing, my first contractor's quote is still cheaper so i stayed with him. he is very reliable and honest, just like patrick. the only thing is i have to keep chasing him for quotation (i think he is very busy). his carpentry work are also of very good quality, all my carpentry work in the old house is still going strong except for scratches and stickers all over (done by my kids). pm me if you want his contact number.
  3. gosh! thats bad. can try to make a complaint (if you still have the receipt) to ikea and see what they say? maybe they will replace with another book case?
  4. TS is me right? hee hee. went to take a look at ikea's tv console earlier and was disappointed with their quality. guess i will get my carpenter to custom made for me though they are much more ex.
  5. thanks applefreak & lin_stapler! i didnt notice that they have different quality of wood available. though they are the same. then i would rather pay a little more for the solid wood type.
  6. hi guys, due to tight budget, so now considering buying study tables and bookshelves and cabinates from ikea. need your comments on quality of their furnitures. are they durable and of reasonable quality? dont want to be caught in this situation that the furnitures start falling apart after 2 to 3 years. really appreciate comments from those who have owned a piece of ikea. thanks!

hi air, thanks for the contact. how was the material for the price $1750? were they very good or just average? do you mean that you chose better material when you topped up the curtains to 2.3K? Thanks

    Curtains

hi air, $1750 for all your curtains is really cheap! what kind of material they gave you? i went to this shop call curtain issue at kaki bukit and the quote from them is almost $2200 with mbr roller blind and 2 rooms curtains and one string curtain. i thought shops in park mall charges very high but seems otherwise. will go check out art living too. anyone went to curtain issue before? any comments? thanks
  9. NETS is appealing to the public to report merchants who impose the fee to consumers but i think there is still ways for merchants to disguise the fee in other ways. i think the best way is to boycott using NETS and pay cash. when the consortium running NETS realised how much they are losing out in transaction, they may reverse the fee hike. personally i will try not to use NETS whenever i can.
  10. thank god its over and the couple has reconciled. thats why now she has cover it up already.
  11. ya ya, er mirror is exposed, 4 panels fully exposed facing her bed directly.
  12. my friend and her hubby was also super loving leh. some how along the way she strayed. now she learned her lesson liao and made curtain to cover the entire mirror.
  13. in fact the duties for husbands, wives, children and parents are also teachings in our catholic faith. some of these are in the ten commandments. i do agreed with you that no fs will help if you flunk all the duties as stated. btw, mirrors in the room is a NO NO for feng shui. this will in no way enhance any relationships between husbands and wives. one of my friend who didn't heed this had mirror wardrobe facing her bed directly and resulted in extra marital affairs on her part. is this 邪门 or 巧合 or bad feng shui? to me, a little feng shui or following ancient traditions for any religion 是 无伤大雅! it doesnt hurt to listen or practise as long as it doesnt comprise on your belief.
  14. most definitely! i have seen with my own eyes how good fs has helped improved my friend's family. her son has changed from a moody dull boy to a cheery talkative boy eversince she moved to a new place with the help of fs. there are more to this but i dont think it is nice to discuss it here. nonetheless, this topic has intrigued me and would like to find out what the catholic church thinks about fengshui. i shall be doing some research on it....haha
  15. hi zirhk3355 how do you "custom-built" your ikea study table? i am also facing with this problem with my kids' study table. if your way is useful, i can consider too. customised study by contractors are usually very rigid and expensive.
  16. thanks everyone for your input. i do not think that adopting fs is going against my catholic faith. fs is not a superstition. it is a practise to harmonise our living environment and can be practise by anyone of any faith. i am not referring to chanting prayers of other faith like "nan mo or mi tou fu" but more like saying something that we use daily like 好的来, 坏的去. i m sure, whether you are christian or buddist, there are certain traditions, like rolling fruit on the floor, walking over burning stove, cook your first meal when you first move it, right? these practices, imo does not compromise on your faith at all. if tong du involves praying to the earth god with joss sticks, i will definitely not do. i also have catholic friends who took up fs course just to learn more about this art. i am very open minded about this as long as it does no harm to anyone.
  17. what to pray ? i am a catholic, is there a generic prayer for all religion? or just say " heng one come, bad one go away"
  18. hi mace, do you mean if no wet works done at home, no need to dong tu? i will only be doing some carpentry work and laying of timber wood at my balcony, does that require dong tu? my contractor told me that i can just use a hammer to knock knock here and there to symbolise the starting of reno, do i really need to break something? or just make some noise at home? appreciate some input from fellow forumers. thanks!
  19. hi mr chong, i also have a similar question to consult you. i won't be doing any wet work for my new place, ie, not hacking and flooring. my place will only be fixing carpentry work, how do i go about this dong tu thingy? my contractor told me that i can simply use the hammer to knock knock here and there during the auspicious hour and this is considered dong tu already. is it correct? thanks
  20. ya lor, the price is very affordable. which simmons model did you buy and how much did it set you back? i went to the living home at expo last week and saw a simmons beauty rest USA and after discount, it will cost me about $2400 and above. not sure if it is a good price. there are just too many type of mattresses in the market and it is confusing the **** out of me. initially wanted to splurge on a water bed but after reading a review i changed my mind . so now decided to cut back on the mattress and not willing to spend more than 2 k. the more i read, the more confused i become.
  21. hi, is there anyone using nightingale mattress distributed by cellini? tried on it, not too bad but have not heard of this brand before so a little unsure. appreciate some feedback from you guys who had bought and used a nightingale mattress before. thanks
