Just came back from meeting the tilings. Yesterday only 2 lonely men up there, today got more! 6 i think! happy to see them there! Went thru with the tilers the position of my washer and my basins. They are nice people who will share their professional advice with me. The last time i save $200 in relation to my sanitary pipes, then I save some money again by using all sliding windows instead of casement. Save how much I dunno yet. Today after going thru with the tiler I save some money again! I will now do without my glass shower screen for my common shower room. This is because there is only 1 water outlet point that is a distance away from my shower head (right below my basin). Tiler give me 2 option : 1) Open another outlet hole below the shower head. This option will mean that the floor tiling work will not look nice cos shower area will need to slope towards the new hole while the other area outside the shower screen have to slope towards the original whole 2) leave it as it is, let the water all run to the orginal hole. floor only have 1 gradient and can do without curb and shower sreen. But this means after someone shower, the whole floor will be wet. After discussion with the man we go for option 2. Shower rooms are meant to be wet mah.. since our WC and shower area are seperated, i guess it won't make much difference. Save money!

yah man. Uncle being is nice usual self don't charge extra if we are going for powder coated windows. He somemore will shave off some money from my initial quote cos I am installing all sliding windows and his quote is for casement windows. Aubrey the window guy tell me won't turn yellow, even my air con contractor advise me to accept the white cos he says white is expensive and is the nicest colour among all. He says his own house use white and so far never turn yellow. He use to work for a window contractor also. He also shared that those that turned yellow are the "fake" powder coating. The real actual powder coat won't turn yellow so easily. That's what he told me, dunno true or not also lah.

If you browse thru the other threads, now, there's a number of projects handled by Uncle Ah Soon and Mr Yeak. Uncle ah soon is contractor lor. I can pm you his number. However I need to pre-empt you first. Bcos uncle Ah Soon now got alot of projects, he may not be able to respond to your quote immediately. He'll take awhile to come out with quotes and also he is famous for being late or missing appointments. But he is a nice uncle who will try his best to help. If all that deters you, probably Mr Yeak may suits you better. So far reviews has also been good for Mr Yeak. You can refer to Rondy and Angel's thread for Mr Yeak's works.

nice 3D! got 3D for kitchen?

uhmmm i'm really not quite sure whether paint is better or tiles are better. my first initial plan is i wan a raw looking kitchen i dun even wanna paint, i want a cement look on the wall. after much advise from alot of kind souls i decided to paint. then my hubby goes up see smallboy's place, he gian the tiles.. now due to budget back to paint. my plain wall will not have carpentry. it will be on the wall opposite my kitchen cabinets.

yah man!! i wanted black frames and when it went up became white. but i guess mine is another "beautiful" mistake after fondue's dresser (or is it ashes?? can't remember). I accepted the white later on cos i think it looks nice hahaha. U can ask uncle to get the window guy to call u and u tell the guy direct. I liase direct with the window man on the glass selection. He is a nice chap too.

if i were to tile i'll simply use white gloss plain tiles. after that i was thinking if i paint also got advantage lah. anytime i dun like the colour or got stains on the wall, can simply repaint in. hehhehe just consoling myself.

it's on page 8. and we are referring to toilet wall not TV feature wall The latest update is, we are forgoing tiling the kitchen walls already... cos exceed budget.. uncle quoted $1.2K for that.. I told him in that case, dun want to do already cos exceed budget... he was really nice.. he ask me to quote my own price, he'll try to help me... but then again.. I thought it was only a few hundred bucks.. I really didn't wanna take advantage of uncle so I decided not to spend that money already.

oh yah.. i forgot about ur bath tub... in that case better check properly in case by the time u fix up the pressure not enough then waste all your money.

ohhh it's a terrace, no wonder the roofing/ceiling looks different It'll be good that you source ur ID/contractor carefully. don't rush. Get someone that you feel most comfy with. Good luck!!

i know what you mean... mine ain't any better... cannot differentiate glass and mirror.... and though we are just a few steps away... nv even bother to ask the progress... thanks preciousjam. XBB, every renovation hor no matter handle by ID or contractor bound to have rectification one. I doubt anyone can do a 100% perfect job. 6 years ago I engaged an ID and rectify till lawyer case lor... now i think about it still wanna vomit blood. give me lousy tiling job and i refuse to pay they came in to dismantle away all my kitchen cabinet doors without my knowledge... **** unethical....

just now uncle called me I ask for my quote, he say he too busy to prepare so he ask me to type the english version myself wor. wahhh what if I shave a few hundred here and few hundred there and add in some clause to my advantage ask him to sign??? I told him chinese version should be fine and he say :" if you trust me hor, we just base on the chinese quote, no need to sign. is that ok?" I am ok of course, cos my work has started already mah..

the kitchen cabinet colour is pretty interesting, unique. what sort of flat type is urs? how come the ceiling looks funny. EM?

now u know i am not a very detailed person... i gave my sample tiles and the order forms all to uncle and forgot to keep a record for myself... i almost forgot I chose a 300 x 600 tile for the walls the tile is chosen by hubby and my aunt. if they leave it to me, it'll be black and white with floral motiff.. 2 votes against 1...

yah our main pipes a little different. I actually like your common toilet layout better. your shower area on the left and WC area on the right. Mine is opposite.. which means I gotta fix up shower screen...

He drew whatever i told him on the wall. I guess that day both of us also blur, somehow we miss that the 300 x600 tiles was not there.

I did my homework, drove back to look see look see. Luckily I did. Tiling work has started. Met the 2 tilers at my door, who just came back from their lunch. Friendly people. A further check on the delivered tiles and I realise me and uncle both make a big wu long mistake... As mentioned earlier, my toilet wall and floor tiles are pretty close, just that the wall is slightly darker and shinier. The 2 tilers weren't sure which is the tile for the walls and we started digging thru the pile and realise aiyoh... my toilet wall tiles are not among the pile... They delivered all the floor tiles but not wall. My wall is using 300 x 600 while all the grey tiles delivered are 300 x 300. I guess uncle is the confuse one who did not order the wall tiles. Partly my fault cos I pass him 3 separate pieces of paper with different tile codes with cancellations here and there. Probably he got confused by the pieces of paper. But never mind, at least we detected the error before the tilers start work. Credit to the tilers who bother to ask, instead of assuming and smack on the wrong tiles. They have just started on the common toilet walls. This panel will be the feature wall, the other 3 sides will be using dark grey tiles. Initially we planned to tile up the whole toilet wall with this tile but after some thought I think i'll be very overwhelm if whole toilet looks like this so I change the other 3 sides to plain tiles. Will pop by this eveing again to see the progress.
