  1. can see the pic clearly. Wat's the finishing like? Veneer? or laminates? U can try sanding it and then paint it
  2. yup that's why i indicated +++++++++ cos it depends on individuals and what they considered as revamp. Furthermore, sand and wood is at least double the price now....haiz! wow, ur father-in-law your contractor.....any reno pics to share? u must have really done a lot with 50-60k.
  3. congrats....think 60k COV considered quite a gd buy now. Wow, gonna revamp the whole place and that's gonna be at least another 40k ++++++++ and not forgetting furnitures. Good luck!
  4. actually its difficult to say whether one particular EM in so and so particular estate is worth so and so amount of COV now as compared to 6months ago or even 1-3 years ago. I only know that its more like a sellers' market now and if u really need a place and really have that amount of cash, then u got no choice but to pay for that amount of COV asked by seller. In fact, reno isnt cheap now.
  5. just a suggestion why not ask around for good pte gynaes be it male or female. These gynaes usually can deliver at TMC, Mt A, Mt E and Glen E
  6. i didnt bought EM with grant. Bought 4 room flat with grant and upgraded to EM 6 years later.
  7. see my signature? got 6 members in Hougang and your name is one of them. me born in Punggol n grew up in Hougang so can say I know Hougang inside out. I know the numbers of traffic light from Hougang to AMK but put me in West, I'm lost. Who is your electrician? years ago...hmm...back in 1998, we were looking for EM and wanted to get one in my current block but all selling rocket high min. 400 or 450k even for 2nd floor. Though we got the 50k stay near parents grant but still too high. Nearly bought a EM at Blk 522 opp Hougang Mall for 450k (cant really recall) but last min changed mind as dad said the front door kena the edge of the block so not good. In the end, we took the 50k grant and bought a 4-room unit beside parents' flat. 2005 property went down so fulfilled our dreams to get a EM in my current block though its 6 years after we zoom in on this EM block. Same carpark so no need to change carpark label....hahahaha and best thing is we still staying near my parents so meals are FOC. Now my parents moved in with me and sublet their flat. Wonder if I should sell and move to a 4 bedroom 5 room or EA but then I have to wait till I have $ to do reno. Reno is so ex nowadays, heard that sand and wood is double the price of what I paid for back in 2005 during my reno. btw, how much u bought your EM?
  8. ic. In fact, there's not many female gynaes around in Spore. Know of one or two who got bad reputation as they're very rough. Not sure if there's any female gynaes in KKH. I know one popular female gynae by the name of Ann Tan (hope I get her name correct), she's at Mt E now., previously ever at SGH. Another gd gynae is Tracy from Tow Yung Clinic. NB: both are not my gynae. here's a discussion good female gynae to recommend http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumbo...html?1187251468

  10. my friend with Dr Benjamin (I hope I get the name correct) from KKH for both pregnanices. Said he is very good.
  11. ya resand can liao. Close 1 or 2 eyes then u wont be bothered that this small portion of your EM (i.e staircase railings) not so perfect but u sure save alot.
  12. ya, me also dare not touch the staircase railings. Got friends working in HDB back in the 80s n 90s before n they said its best to keep the railings as the original railings very strong. ya, i also didnt touch the staircase railings. Really save a bomb. My friends who worked in HDB back in the 80s and 90s also advised me to keep it as the original is very strong. welcome welcome to EM thread. Me added u into the EM club heee....I'm just opposite Nativity Church, NPP block and opposite Florida. Urs is near to Punggol Primary hor. Is the coffeeshop near at that multi storey carpark still around? Ur EM should be the type with squarish balcony and accessible via kitchen n living room hor? Nice place cos can go Punggol park to exercise and BBQ.
  13. go to the one at Jalan Lokam, along Upper Paya Lebar http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel.../travel_site_1/
  14. Oops, he thought he won the car. Click PLAY !! After 3 days w/o sleep, under the rain, sun and wind, he became abit seh seh and mind playing tricks.
  15. yup, its just a very basic plan which only covers the building structure and it exclude reno or all household contents. That's y it cost only slightly more than $9 for 5-yrs coverage for EM. For those who are kiasu and kiasi then u can opt to get your household content insured. I'm one of them because I've a very careless neighbhour next door who left the food cooking on the stove a couple of times....luckily came back in time and they also tend to 'invite' potential burglars by leaving their door n windows open. So I'm worried that the burglars might also save the trip by breaking into my house if a burglar really decided to break in one of these days. So do get a slightly more comprehensive fire/house insurance as it also covers your pet, locks, alternative accommodation, worldwide insured when u go overseas, water pipe burst, loss of keys, loss of ATM card, etc. If something happened to your house and u kena sued by your neighbour then u can also claim from the insurance.
  16. our govt is pro-family by giving out atrractive baby bonuses to up the birth rates. But there's still plenty of discrimination towards those planning to have kids. The numerous letters to ST shows that more should be done by MOM because the existing labour laws only covers unreasonable termination of service for a pregnant lady when she's so n so months into her pregnancy. Why cant they cover them regardless of their months of pregnancy. The existing labour law has too many loopholes and many companies are able to get away with it do I sound like a victim? Luckily I'm not
  17. So 23rd Oct is your 2nd appt? Cant recall whether u have to or can choose to apply PUB a/c on 2nd appt. Also need to buy the mandatory fire insurance (only cover the walls of our EM ) so best is to go earlier and queue for the fire insurance and PUB a/c. I believe u cld move in by Dec & celebrate Xmas since u only doing minor reno. Good luck!
  18. i think the DIY steps are printed on the bottom of the box. anyway here's a pic of my duro lock 'hanging' on my wrought iron gate (size same as new HDB gate). For those who are interested to buy the duro lock, do take measurement of your wrought iron gate (see red line in pic) and confirm that the measurement sama sama with the demo gate installed the duro lock in Home-Fix outlets.
  19. i think should be able to fit. Initially when I bought my duro lock...I also cant do it. Took me abt 2 days to figure out how to slide it in and fit it onto my gate with the help of my contractor. U might wanna try it from different angle or from outside in or inside out.
  20. price pretty reasonable for EM but do check with them on the type of paints, no. of colours as well as the number of coats that they wld be doing if they're tasked to do the job
