  1. Very interesting to hear different reasons we all engaged Uncle Soon as our contractor... I'm still in the midst of renovation at the moment, and of course we have tasted the famous and big aeroplanes from Uncle.. And something very strange, I don't know how to explain, when Uncle is busy or uncontactable, we will become very nervous and kan cheong.. But once we managed to get hold of him, speak with him on our problems, then our confidence is restored back.. Not that he's a sweet talker or good motivator, but somewhat we have confident with him that if anything goes wrong, he will rectify it for us within his best effort (hope we are not wrong) and when we want to add new things, we are not afraid that the price is over inflated... This is my first renovation, so I have no experience with IDs at all. But we have travelled islandwide to hunt for best quotation, and the lowest is definitely came from Uncle Soon, and the second lowest is around 5k higher.. and no guarantee that they will do a perfect job as well...
  2. Hi Ivy, I just want to ask, your window grills and frames are aluminum or powder coat? Thanks.
  3. that's very strange.. Jason told me the same thing as well that the painters will come today and 2 malay guys also which Uncle Soon said their workmanship is very good.. And supposed to do the painting today and tomorrow so that they can cleanng up the whole house before the laminate flooring can be up on Monday. But till15 minutes ago, I just went to take a look.. there're only 2 uncles removing rubbish and debris.. but no painter... So I guess they must have gone to your place...
  4. I think nowadays Uncle has 2 very different standard of service. My painting which was scheduled to be on either Monday/Tuesday till today still no progress yet. Basically for the past 2-3 weeks, they were having 3 working day per week, they either came on Monday till Wednesday or Thursday till Saturday only. Same as everyone, he is not picking up calls, and when he picks up, he simply answers a few questions and okok to smoke through... There's once, when there's issue, I called him, he told me he couldn't remember the item and my quotation wasn't with him..... Through my 1 month renovation, Uncle came only twice, can you imagine that? Luckily, Jason is much better and responsive, so now most of the time we just called Jason. Really hope that our renovation can be completed by end of this month.
  5. yeap..progress at our side quite slow. At first we are very excited,, now tired already..
  6. I am still in progress and now almost 1 month, carpentry not up yet..painting also not up yet
  7. Smallboy, your house turn out to be very chio loh .. I hope mine will turn out nice2 also
  8. have checked with Jason yesterday when he was there, he said before handover they will clean up everything using acid wash. all cements, glue, etc will be removed completely. He said if the cements cannot be washed, they should be the one to be afraid.. With his assurance, now we are not so worry already... And he also promised to change the cracked tiles for us when the tiler comes to do the box up. but the hole due to the stainless steel pipe, they will only patch it up using cement.
  9. mm.. doesn't sound good then... so far no complain from my neighbour yet.. Probably tomorrow I will clarify with Jason on this, it doesn't seem to be possible for us to clean up all the cement, glue, silicon, etc.. They used cardboard to cover up the tiles, but not thoroughly... There're still many places uncovered. So we tried to cover them ourselves. But the toilets are totally uncovered!! By the time we wanted to cover it, it's already very dirty... And this morning when we went there, we saw that the cardboard at the foyer area which we have nicely covered torned into a few pieces..
  10. Sorry to use your thread to ask some questions. Just want to check with you since you have completed your reno. This morning when I was there, there're 2 pools of water left, one in the kitchen and one in living room. And the cardboards are all wet. Will this have any impact on my floor tiles? When they ran the piping, did they drill a big hole on your wall, or they cut the hole nicely just to fit in the s/s pipe? And there're 3 pcs of wall tiles in my MBR cracked because of the ss pipe also. I called Jason, and he said they will rectify all of these. But I still keep thinking about it on how they can close the gap, will they change the tile or they just close it with cement? Will it look ugly though they are quite high and near the ceiling. And I can see that there's alot of cements stuck on the tiles. When they clean up the house, can all these be removed completely? A bit worry now, coz both Asoon and Jason are extremely busy and overloaded. Though I still have complete faith that they will do their best to rectify the defects as the reno goes by, but... we still worry...
  11. How I wish I can have such a huge wardrobe..
  12. wow...a very well maintained house!! Can just bring luggage and move in
  13. Just came back from our new flat... Very surprised that the hacking is almost completed, just left a little bit of wall tiles in master bathroom... Asoon said the tiles will come in tomorrow, and they will start tiling on Friday... Nothing much to post here, just some debris.. Living Room Wall between master bedroom and bedroom 3 Nothing to take picture, so we took the view from our unit
  14. hahaha yeah.. very blur coz taken using my lousy phone camera... It's full HD 42", nowadays LCD price is very cheap... with a couple of hundreds more you can get 46" Full HD already.. I think they are selling at 1799 for 46" Full HD and 100 dols NTUC voucher....
  15. Post some pics taken this morning... The hacking just started for more or less 1 hour and all cabinets and wardrobes had been dismantled... Top job Asoon & co is really **** fast... Today there're 5 people working... Hope the productivity can be consistent throughout the process...
  16. we bought our tv at 1299 with 50 NTUC voucher
  17. Thanks thanks.. To add on other significant characteristics : low ceiling until we cannot afford to have false ceiling Thanks... are you using Ah Soon also? Yeap you are right, most important things we are comfortable with his quotation and end up doing almost everything haha but maybe will try to fight for some freebies other than the store room shelves
  18. I have pm'ed you the contact . So your new place will be somewhere around street 2X or 1X?
  19. yeap.. we finalized everything already and will start hacking tomorrow .
  20. sob..we also don't have any free gift from uncle other than store room shelves .. sad
  21. Thanks for the info. Hmmm...Probably I should try out the ultra famous Rojak tomorrow when I go there ... hahaha kidding
  22. Yes, we will use the expensive tiles for 1 side of the wall... btw, care to share where you bought your curtain?
  23. Yesterday we managed to meet up with both Asoon and Jason.. We have the feeling of striking 4D consolidation prize... haha... We did some measurements, and we think that it's actually alright with the current arrangement. But 1 sad news, Jason said that our ceiling is too low (only 2.47m) so cannot do false ceiling This is a major blow even before the renovation starts.. we think it's not so nice without false ceiling.... Jason recommended to use L-box instead... but not sure how to design the L-box now.. We suspect that the previous owner did overlay for the living room and kitchen... Haiizz... We can only know after we hack the living and kitchen floor tiles... So, if it's overlay then we can still do the false ceiling... But Asoon has to do double work to hack 2 layers of tiles So finger crossed... Then for the tiles we need to top up additional 200 dols for 1 side of the wall using the expensive tiles... Asoon said need to top up, we also don't want to bargain too much because there're definitely more things to add on as the renovation progress... And hope that Asoon can give us better price... Before they left, Jason left us 2 laminate catalog for us to choose for the carpentry: lamiTak and edl... We heard people said lamiTak is better, but we found it has very limited choice, edl has more design and the pattern is nicer also... So most probably we will use edl instead of lamiTak... Then today we went to look for curtain, as the previous owner left us 2 sets of curtains for living and bedroom 2 and 3, so we only need to 1 roman blind for master room and 1 string curtain at the study corner... But we was setback by the high quotation S$570.00 for the roman blind (1.9mx1.5m) and S$190 for the string curtain (3.2m) including the installation.. So, if anyone knows where to get cheaper curtain, please PM me.. Cheers..
