  1. Thanks. Do you think there will be improved performance with option 2 over option 1? Or you are thinking that the black thicker optic fiber is less likely to be spoilt in the future? Agree that Option 3 sounds not-doable. Looks like i have to relook at my location for my Router and POE Switch. If i place them in my TV cabinet, do you think it will affect my speakers or vice versa? I shouldn't think so since these are wired connections - not wifi.
  2. A bit concerned cos the optical cable will need to be run up to the ceiling above the false ceiling to another part of the 1st floor. If there's a problem in the future with this cable, i would have to pull it out somehow from the inside the false ceiling and replace without damaging the false ceiling. I thought it could be easier to just move the OTP to the router, so I dun need to run the optical cable in the ceiling etc.
  3. Thanks Pete. Is it possible to run a LAN cable from the OTP to router? My old home has a thin yellow cable (dunno what you call this...) leading from the OTP to my Starhub router.
  4. Snoozee, on your first point, if I leave the OTP at the living room, does that mean the router will be at that spot? If so, i got a problem hiding the router. Any concern to just relocate the OTP to the central location on my first floor (deeper in the house, in a closed wooden cabinet) where i can place the router and the switch? The cabinet i have in mind in the central location is a 2-tier shelf which has about 32 cm of internal depth. Is this sufficient to place: (1) my router on the bottom shelf, connected to the OTP (2) the router will be connected to the switch on the top tier. I will prob have some space cut out on the plank of the top tier...to allow the cable to be connected between the router and the switch? Is 32 cm internal depth ok for 24 or 48 port POE switch?
  5. Thanks .... do you know if it is possible to have the extractor fan on a a preset time after use . eg it will switch off only one hour after?
  6. Hi, can I get your thoughts please. Due to some structure constraints, my helper,’s toilet on the ground floor may end up windowless. I will have an extractor for ventilation but I’m concerned still of mould. Do you guys have a windowless toilet and if so, do u see mould even with extractor?
  7. Is yours fanless? Do you mind sharing the model? Doing some research… Hikvision and HP seems like popular brands…. Also considering them for the switch. I’m thinking of using Unifi WAP and their Dream Machine seems to be a good router… CCTVs… probably Hikvision. I was speaking to a shop in Sim Lim that sells Hikvision products. Quite decent pricing but unfortunately they dun do installation but said they can recommend an installer after I buy their products. Anyone tried this route? Wondering how much these installers charge.
  8. Hi Pete, any reason why router outside and switch inside?
  9. I have not used an NVR before... would it be necessary to keep viewing the contents? I suppose for initial set up but for watching CCTV footage, is it possible to view via mobile phone? It would so much more convenient.
  10. Hi Snoozee, you have brought out a key point which i have not considered carefully before... how to hide 20 Cat 6 cables. All the time, i have just been assuming the cables can be hid easily. From what you are saying, it may make more sense to have the contractor run the fiber into the house to where it is most central (ie. least running of Cat 6 cables) in the first floor, and which is suitable to place the router and the switch. If i use a fanless switch, it should be noiseless. Then i should run a Cat6 to an NVR somewhere upstairs. Besides heat and noise, any considerations where to place an NVR? I would just need to be able to connect to a monitor as and when i want to view, right? I can bring the monitor to the NVR as and when i want to do so? For the NVR, i can use a fanless one with few ports if the intention is to hook the CCTVs and WAP to the switch directly, right?
  11. I think I will have about 5-6 CCTVs + 5-6 WAPs. I think the Starhub OTP will be slightly past my main door, into my living room. If I use a fanless switch plus a fanless NVR, then it would be silent right? If so, I dont mind placing them in my living room TV console. But if they make sounds, then it's not great when we have guests in the living room or even when i want to listen to my hifi system in the quiet night. If they make sounds, i will probably need to leave the router alone at the Starhub OTP point (which I'm covering with a shoe cabinet), then route Cat 6 to my attic storeroom in which i can place the NVR and the switch. If i do so, i prob might as well get a switch and nvr with fans to help cool them since sound is less a factor in my attic. What do you guys think?
  12. Hi, can I check if I want the ability to create separate wifi net work for guests and maybe my kids, I would have to get a managed switch? Unmanaged switch seems easier to manage but I do want these features. Any simple managed switch to recommend? Also, any quiet NVR to recommend? I’m still looking for an appropriate place to store my NVR… concerned about noise. I can potentially store it in the attic store… so noise will disturb less people but the heat from the roof is a concern then. No air con there.
  13. From what i read, white haze issue is caused by hard water...and can get quite ugly. Some people have to apply coconut oil or some special cleaner every few weeks! If true, the SS sinks may be easier to maintain. Cos at worst, its water marks which can just be wiped away. What's your experience with both types, Snoozee?
  14. 🙂 Pete, no issues cos you maintain it? What colour is yours - dark? How do you maintain?
  15. Any one installed granite composite kitchen sinks here? Like the range of colours but read about the white haze caused by hard water that requires very regular cleaning. Do you guys experience ? Or did you choose SS sinks?
  16. Hi Can i check with you guys if your helper's room entrance is on the outside of the house or within the inside of the house? Just wondering if there are pros and cons. If outside, every morning she needs to unlock the one of the doors to get in the house cos i imagine i would lock up all the door at night. A bit more inconvenient ...
  17. How many routers do u need? Do u place one in each floor?
  18. Not sure about cloud key. From what I’m reading, it seems I will need a Unifi Dream Machine Pro to connect the wifi plus cctvs I have and I would also need a POE switch. I’m not very confident of using the switch ... still trying to learn from YouTube. Also concerned that the switch could be quite noisy cos of fans which are needed if I have many ports.
  19. Hi, I’ve have been thinking of using Ubiquiti for my home wifi and cctvs but having done more reading, im increasingly concerned cos I’m not tech savvy. Right now I’m just using a plu and play mesh system. I can get a service provider to set up Ubiquiti but I’m afraid that if my wifi is down someday, I won’t know how to fix. I dunno things like port forwarding etc ... So the easiest way is to go back to mesh system. But I know since I’m doing up my house, I should get LAN cables up to the rooms and have WAP to get better wifi. Question is, is there an easier wifi system/ solution for me than Ubiquiti that allows me to take advantage of WAP?
  20. Anyone explored solar leasing? Ie. The PV company pays and maintains for installation and sells you the electricity at reduced rates. To me, that takes the initial financial outlay off me...
  21. Hi guys Just wondering if the owner needs to be swabbed routinely every 14 days or just have to have a swab in the last 14 days... Cos what if the owner is not going down to site for a month, still need to swab every 14 days? Or the owner can siam the swab during the month, and go for swab just before his next trip next month. Actually, how often do you owners go down to the site usually?
  22. Hi, just wondering if you manage to progress this with nparks? i too have a tree outside that i was wondering if i can replace...
