  1. Is this (see attached car porch) what u mean by “framing”? Cannot be fixed?
  2. Btw, I am still trying to see how many ports I need for the switch but I think I will need to have a few security cameras, and one port to connect to each room. Does the switch get hot? I have not provided for a server room ... can the router, the switch etc be stored in a cabinet... I can probably find a place in the cabinet on my first floor for it.
  3. Seems like prevention is definitely better than cure but how to tell if the workers tiling my place is using mapei products... would I be able to specify?
  4. I was considering WIFI 6 since it is the latest. What’s the risk of going for it?
  5. But does that mean I would need another LAN point on the wall for wired connection to my PC ... the wall mounted unit is attractive cos it combines the wireless AP with a secondary Ethernet port.
  6. Looking at what you guys are doing, I’m also keen to install this enterprise wireless network. Did some reading online and it seems Ubiquiti is easiest for a novice like me? They have this wall mounted access point that can be used for wifi and LAN... which I think is very neat. Anyone considering that?
  7. Hi Snoozee, what would you need to connect to this wireless access point to have wifi in the room ... sorry, a novice here...
  8. Thanks. The problem seems to be caused at the point of laying the tiles? This is a very common issue .... seems like the workmanship in SG is not great huh. Does it happen to all tiles? Somehow don’t see this happening to indoor floors.
  9. I see. So from each room, there is a network point. In the study for example, would you be able to plug in to that network point directly (LAN) using your PC? In the bedroom, what device would you connect to the network point to have wifi? Is there any concern that these network cables in the walls/ ceilings would need replacement (worn out or too slow) in the future? Possible to replace without having to hack?
  10. I have an outdoor patio and I'm thinking of flooring options. One issue I see in many homes is efflorescence, the white powdery substance between tiles that harden. Sometimes you see like water stains (darker patches) in grey tiles. Is that a way to avoid such issues? What type of tiles can avoid these problems? Not so keen on decking...
  11. Sorry, I'm not good at this. Do you mean you have a modem in one spot but you use a mesh system that has one unit in every storey? Or do you mean you connect Cat 6/7 cables from one router through the walls into your rooms, with a wired connection point in each room?
  12. Definitely looks bulky ... wish there are more security systems that are aesthetically acceptable.
  13. Btw, if i dont wany my pool after a few years, do i need to get professional help to remove the pool which i suspect may cost be like $30k or can i just fill it up with soil and plant a garden over it?
  14. Is it true that main gates that have a guiding track tend to be problematic cos leaves, stones get stuck there and causes a jam? Are there gates without such tracks?
  15. Read somewhere that extractor fans dont work for humid countries and that getting a dehumidifier is better. But in SG we cannot have electric socket in toilet right? Anyone using a dehumifier for toilets? would like to learn how to do it.... extension cord?
  16. Does anyone use extractor fans for toilets here? do they work well? are they noisy? any particular brands are better?
  17. Looking at options for the back of the house and am wondering how long can retractable awnings last.... if i need a long stretch of wall to be covered, is it better to get a single retractable awning to cover that entire length or should i break up and have two of more retractable awnings to cover that stretch?
  18. We need an engineer to install awning? i thought there are suppliers who can just install...
  19. If i install an awning that can go 2 m wide to the wall but day to day (usually) keep in retracted at 1 m, is that against the law? Of course some days eg heavy rain, i may extend fully...
  20. Thanks Snoozee. Do i need a PE to be involved in this? Also, if i move the meter box out, facing out, the sliding gate will open across the face of the meter box. Would this be problematic? Just concerned that if for any reason the meter box door is not closed properly, the sliding door gate will knock it....
  21. Also considering moving the meter box. From discussions in this thread, costs is about $10k for LEW services, government approvals, new meters and another $10k for box culvert, shifting the kerb and approvals. Am i missing any other costs?
  22. Is it true skylight tends to have leaking issues? are there warranty usually? Any good skylight installer/ service provider to recommend?
