  1. Definitely agree. I'll leave the liaising with upstairs to the town council... but just in case it gets nowhere......the very fact that the HDB guy asked me to leave his contact with upstairs shows the way they work....http://www.renotalk.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bangwall.gif
  2. Hi hi, Water has been dripping on and off since 2 days ago from the kitchen ceiling area (where pipes come from upstairs). HDB guy came to check when I was not in but cannot check as the door to the enclosure around the pipes was stuck. Upstairs neighbours were not in so he can't check their area either. I have since removed the door. I have left the HDB guy's contact with upstairs neighbours that evening. Don't know whether they bother to call. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/style_emotic...ault/unsure.gif Today, getting fed up waiting (and don't want to ask the neighbour as they are not the friendly type), I contacted Essential Maintenance Service Unit who sent down a contractor to check. Kudos.... Ceiling confirmed ok. Likely chock in the pipe from upstairs although the water does not overflow upstairs so they didn't realise it also. Resolution is to either get upstairs to engage their own contractor to clear the chock or for us to get contractor ourselves to change the pipe. Latter would cost me around $180. This is standard charge? Got website? Although, rightly, I understand the pipe problem is upstairs neighbour's responsibility, I am seriously considering paying the $180. Upstairs neighbours seem like the unfriendly kind and I don't want any trouble from them since we are staying here long term. And the plastic pipe is quite old (should be 30-year-old). Any comments on the situations? haiz......
  3. dunno the proper terminology.....had that issue when house taps were switched to level type on-off from the screw type. acting on the suggestion of a neighbour, we switched back to the screw type and the problem was solved.
  4. it's cold water only piping........http://www.renotalk.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bangwall.gif
  5. Hi folks, Just discovered something weird....whenever I turn on the bathroom tap, the kitchen basin tap start flowing water.... The main PUB inlet pipe goes straight to the kitchen basin. There is a junction joint (90 degrees) to the bathroom (which is opposite the kitchen basin). Any ideas?
  6. This last week, been keeping an eye for vacuum cleaners when I passed by Carrefour, Best Denki, Courts, HN and Mega Discount. The highly recommended ones - like Miele and Hoover - don't see them at any of the above stores. Where available? And how much? Anyway, Miele should be over my budget of $200 - think the lowest priced is $400+. Any brands/models to recommend for general usage (no parquet floor at home) below $200?
  7. Hi folks, Sorry for all the stupid questions hor As mentioned everything in the house r like 30+ years. There are water pipes running behind the existing cabinets. Would there b a need to change them someday? Worried cos if now change the cabinets, then later if need to change the pipes how ah? Additionally, read some forummers mention about ready made cabinets. Are those 'not fixed' to the wall type and movable?
  8. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?s=...st&p=354880 What is the relationship between Mr Lau and Mr Kok?
  9. Hi folks, Similar question, but for a ceiling lamp using 3x36W PLL. Using the white light tubes, instead of the yellowish type (sorry, dun noe the proper terms). Seems super bright, but does the brightness equal more energy used as compared to the traditional 60W round tube? Or is that just perception? Sorry for the noob questions.....
  10. thanks jaskel! so 2-5 days kitchen cabinet portion out of action.....usually per day, they wd need 8hrs? if too much coordination, may just park parents at sentosa.....
  11. This is for an old flat (you know, those with rubbish chute in kitchen type..hahaha....) with people still living in it everyday. Need to re-do the whole flat but don't have the luxury time of new unoccupied flats like most of you. Haiz... For the kitchen hor, is it possible to zoom in on the kitchen cabinet for now? Hood, Hob, sink another phase? Flooring don't have time-window. For the actual onsite work (I am guessing, hacking of old cabinets and fixing new cabinets...anything else), how much time does the contractor need? This kind of 'small' (?) projects, those recommended contractors that I see in the other posts, would they entertain?
  12. Need some ideas for parents' living room. Thinking of getting rid of everything in the living room except for the items indicated as 'ex' (existing) in the attached. Sofa etc are like 20-30 years old..... Any comments on how to arrange the stuff. My cannot-make-it efforts in the links below.... Ignore all height specifications.....measurements of 'new' items are made-up too...... http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/2452/slide1gre.jpg http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4148/slide2l.jpg http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/7019/slide3z.jpg
  13. Just to check how long contractor usually takes to change the entire electrical stuff of a 4-room HDB flat? Parents' place is more than 30 years and the wiring etc all from day one. Time to change everything?
  14. Just fyi...just saw this... http://www.dbs.com/sg/personal/cards/promo...es/default.aspx Any of the shops to recommend?
  15. Hi folks, I've seen a round plastic thimble-like thing fixed inside the mouth of taps that do not have threads. Where to get that?
  16. sorry, didn't give more information earlier. It's meant more as an exit alarm rather than entry alarm. Don't need to be so complicated like those with keypad. More of just in case a particular family member should open the door and leave the house unaccompanied. Need only basic type but hopefully the chime can be adjusted, volume-wise and in terms of type. Turning off the alarm is not an option.
  17. Hi folks, I've been to Home-Fix and saw that they have this door alarm/chime that will sound continuously when the door is open. It consists of 2 pieces joint magnetically - 1 piece fixed on door, the other fixed on door frame. However, I find the continuous sound a little too much, because the door may be opened for valid reasons. Preferably it can chime once - stop, and then chime again if the door is still open. Any idea where to find something like this?
  18. Field report.. Seems like the 2 adaptor sizes I need is not very standard. Have check the major Home-Fix and Selffix branches. All don't have. Probably start asking around the hardware stores or those in the industrial estates.
  19. yoongf, thanks for the tip! I went to the Compass Point branch but theirs is quite standard sizes. Is there another bigger branch? Was in a rush, so stupid me forgot to ask the store person. I need 2 types of adaptors: 1. 20 mm (external thread) to 24 mm (internal thread) 2. 20 mm (internal thread) to 22 mm (external thread)
  20. Hi foks, If the new nozzle doesn't fit the tap, possible to buy an adaptor? For e.g. nozzle is 24mm external threaded and tap is 20mm internal threaded. Where has it? And should it be metal or plastic? TIA!
  21. The Buxco ones? Depends on which ones you need. Prices at http://www.buxco.net/onlinestore.php. Walk in prices same as online prices. If you are a Bishan 8 resident, there's a promotion on: http://www.buxco.net/dualflow.php?action=news
  22. Just to update. Bought them from Bux & Co (http://www.buxco.net/). The other one that I came across is: http://www.jvl.com.sg/ecosave_products.htm
  23. hahaha, sorry for not being clearer....think that term is used in other areas too. I am referring to water taps in the house
