  1. Thanks pinkpetter! I like how the downlights turned out and after seeing the nice effect, now I don't regret paying a bit more for it, After all lighting does play an important role in the overall look of the house. Anyway, here's 2 pics showing the progress on my study tables.
  2. Hi, I saw someone selling off a brand new corner sink on the renotalk garage sales corner. You might want to check it out.
  3. You're right...does feel like reno just started yeserday... ID told me today that very fast will finish liao... exciting stuff.... Anyway, today's spotlight will be none other than.........................LIGHTS! Downlights in the living rm Downlights in the dining area Here's what an individual PLC light looks like... My clipsal light switches and sockets....single, double and triple! Hee
  4. Hi welcome! I presume your place is a condominium? Have you selected your ID/contractor yet? Do share your floorplan and designs.
  5. Congrats on your reno completion. It's a very nice home you got there. Do share more pics of your place with us.
  6. Haha...white white everything...but still don't see any cute pink elephant leh...
  7. I would go for the dangling light. It will go well against your red feature wall. The black pendant is too dark and won't stand out.
  8. You want your house to be monochromatic in colour? If so, then go for the black/silver ones. My personal preference is to use a brighter colour for the lights to create a visual contrast. The lights can also match other furnishings like dining light with dining table/chairs, living room lights with curtains/sofa and bedroom lights with curtains/bed. Just some suggestions.
  9. I agree with the rest... carpentry is expensive...better to spend on essential storage than just to make it look nice if you're on a tight budget...can find other solutions like the ones offered above. For me, my ID simply painted the pipes a colour that matches my bathroom design.
  10. Jessie! I can't wait for the reno to be complete. Hehe
  11. Thanks! I changed all the bedroom doors for total of $1200 (2 of them wooden doors like in the pic and 1 tempered glass for the WIW). Not too sure of the individual breakdown though. Sorry. Thanks for the compliments. Haha... tiling works very ex lor... so if the tiles still look ok then save lah.
  12. Perhaps you can discuss with your mom on what her needs for dresser will be and that will also help you design something. Otherwise, when you move out, the customised space will be wasted. If your mom don't need it, then you can probably buy it as a loose piece of furniture to 1) save cost and 2) reduce wastage. I have done up a WIW with a dresser as part of it...but it's still not finished so can't really see the dresser storage space clearly. I have a pic in my blog.
  13. Wow...you got a good deal on the sofa. I think Yellow is a fantastic brightening colour, but if you scared get dirty easily then Red may be a consideration plus it also matches your living room colour theme.
  14. Agree...very easy to exceed...just concentrate customisation of carpentry on essential storage areas and cut down on those that make the house 'look nice' if you have to. You can always buy decorative furnishings to make it look nice later, plus those things you can change as and when you wish. Also, I realised that one must really window shop and bargain like crazy to get the best deals... my hb and I don't really like to go around bargain hunting so we ended up paying a lot more for certain things... so you must be prepared to be the shopping warrior!
  15. Time for more updates on the progress. First, my favourite part...the kitchen...nearly 80% done...my hb was so excited that the oven has been installed that he kept touching it...haha The dark dark MBR...90% done, left with the tv feature wall hee New laminated door installed but I think not coated yet Study room main bookshelf - 80% completed MBR toilet vanity top - works just started
  16. I would say my reno is around 80% done...generally happy with the progress... although I spotted another area with a cracked tile...sighz... this time round it's the plumber's fault... will let my ID know...
  17. Hello lushbelle. Welcome! Just ask anything and I'm sure the friendly people here in this forum will share advice with you. Unfortunately, I used an ID and not a contractor so I can't recommend any for you.
  18. Hi cute, this is only in the drawing...we decided to keep the hdb toilet bowl cos it still looks alright. So no black one for now...maybe change a few years down the road when this one spoils..hehe
  19. Don't worry, your ID is your project manager and he's paid to solve this problem for you. If there;s a reasonable compromise then ok, but if it's really wrong, then they have no choice but to redo as it was their mistake. Yeah...it's easy to exceed the total budget, mine did by more than 15% liao...
  20. Did you work out a schedule or timeline with your ID/contractor? Usually the reno permit also states how long the company engaged needs to carry out their work. Sometimes certain companies take on too many jobs and therefore you might need to 'push' then a little harder. Anyway, your house is shaping up well. Like the LED lights! hee Where exactly is your location ah?
  21. Hi, glad to hear that your reno is progressing well. Don't stress over so many things k? Enjoy the process.
  22. So cute... any thoughts of involving her in renovating/decorating her own room? It will foster a sense of creativity through her own DIY, sense of ownership and you can teach her budgeting skills... haha...I don't even know how old your litttle girl is and I'm suggesting all these... just my thoughts lah...
