The other day, I passed by a home-fix DIY store and saw that they sold many different types of wall decals for kids' rooms e.g. Disney cartoon characters. There were a few that fit your daughter's princess theme e.g. Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Snow White. Hee

Spam Chop! Contractor will definitely help you save money. Cutting down on hacking, carpentry and lighting in your renovation works will help cut costs too.

I've always believed strongly that it's the service that counts, especially since so many IDs/contractors offer more or less the same thing. He has clearly shown little interest in doing your business since he didn't even bother doing a bit of homework...clearly not worth it...just strike him off your list. No need to feel upset... I'm sure a good ID will come your way soon. Hugz

Sure sure... my mom changed the date to 21st Nov liao... My ID told me today that she changed our wallpaper to a different design cos the previous design we chose would mean having to crop the patterns halfway. She's pretty good with such designs and colour coordination stuff so I give her a lot of independence there. Anyway, to cut a long story short, she now has to import the wallpaper from overseas so the installation can only be done on 3 Nov. Means handover earliest is 4 Nov. No problems lah...there's still ample time to get the cleaners in before I move my stuff. Oh the one that looks like a big muffin! I know which one then... -

Yes I agree. Simply love the purple! Feature wall colour makes for a very homely feel.

FWAH! the pot looks very power! Let's hope my mom's pot will be similar...if bigger then I'll be doing a firewalk! Maybe for the food part, I can use it for satay? Muhahaha! Don't worry pinkpetter...if this is a common traditional practice, dun think my neighbours will get the wrong idea...if really appear on STOMP, we'll have a good laugh! hehe -

Thanks everyone for your praises. Am more than happy to share my reno progess cos I also learn a lot from looking at others' blogs. Generally, I feel that the carpentry works are of a high standard. Sadly, I wish I could say the same for the electrical works... slightly disappointed with my ID's electrician cos I think he and/or his workers take little pride in fixing the electrical things... we always had to go back to our ID with small small problems such as - exposed wiring cos they cut the trunking too short - electrical socket fixed slightly crooked into the carpentry - gave me the wrong number of sockets despite earlier instructions - fan was not fixed properly Anyway...I guess these are all learning points and I am overall satisfied with the whole process thus far. I'm not sure when the handover date will be, have checked with ID and she will revert. Yeah, I also agree with pinkpetter, perhaps 20th is a safer date and it will give me more time to get the place cleaned up plus move in all my barang barang. Hehe -

I'm very scared of house lizards too! But I have learnt to avoid them and tolerate them a bit more cos they help to eat up the mozzies...hehe...so between the two...the lizards are the lesser of 2 evils As for cockroaches...just do your best to keep your house clean, don't leave any bins with rubbish and thrown away food exposed and they will find your house uninteresting...

Your design is very well-thought out according to you and your hb's needs. The end product looks very original. Well done!

Haha... me and hb can't bear to confine our dog in the kitchen...I've had him for 9 years now and he's always had the whole house to run around when no one's at home (except the bedrooms)...I think he will be super traumatised if he is 'locked' in the kitchen when we move to the new place. Yeah...my dad used to own a spitz and I know what you mean about shedding fur!

Wow...your reno started this month and you can move in next week liao...very fast! And yes, do update your blog with pictures of your completed home. I too am very interested to find out how the black false ceiling turned out. Hee

Sure pinkpetter! Always happy to share more pics... I've been triggerhappy ever since I started this blog! haha Mom just told me last night that the best date to move into our new home is 20th Nov, the alternative is 10th Nov...she said something about getting some pot ready...???? Hmm...I'll just let her do...you know, whatever makes her happy...hehe Anyone has gone through some similar sort of experience/ritual for moving-in ceremony?? Pls share. Thanks. -
Hi, just sharing my thoughts... I chose to only laminate only my bedrooms as my dog gets the run of the kitchen, dining and living area when no one's at home. I don't want to take the risk of him soiling the wooden flooring. Unless your dog is very disciplined or you confine him to a non-laminate area, I don't think it's worth the risk.

Wow... painting a room is no easy feat...most IDs/contractors normally give up to 5 colours for a house. You can get your kids to choose their colour and then get your ID/contractor to do it for you. Save the hassle.

Hi nesh, Most packages don't include lighting as the cost is very variable for each house. However, you can ask your ID/contractor to recommend an electrician. Get him to give you a quote. You can also go look for quotes from elsewhere for comparison. Lighting has 2 components: 1) the electrical wiring works and 2) the lights themselves. The price for 1) is pretty standard, the total cost here is dependent on how many and what type of lighting points you need. The price for 2) varies cos you can save on budget lighting or splurge on designer types depending on your budget. Hope this helps.

Hi alphalost, It does look a little like a dance studio now that you mentioned...haha Your unit same size as mine right? Why you say yours is dwarfed? Hope your reno is progressing well? Yup, there are only 2 places where we placed our aircon units, one in the MBR and the other in the study...it's a reflection of where we will be spending most our time. I love sleeping and when I'm not sleeping, I'll most likely be in the study room either doing work or surfing or reading. If I'm not doing that, then I'm outside having fun! The current opening where the wall was hacked will be sealed up with glass so that the cool air stays in the study room. I wanted a more open-concept for the study. -
Hi pinkpetter, how much you spending on your reno?
-
Hehe...me got white sofa and a dog too! My hb and I will be getting a babygate to seal off the living rm area so that he doesn't anyhow pee around that area...
