Thanks everyone. Yeah...very lucky lor... after 6 tries of balloting we were going to give up liao. We actually decided that if we were unsuccessful for this try, we would just live in with parents for some time first and then save up to buy a D&B or condo cos we dun really want a resale flat. But then 'someone' must have heard our cries and suddenly very 'heng' lor... got queue number 44 and were basically the first few to get choice of flats for the west area... yeah, dunno what happened to the prev couple who forfeited the flat and their deposit... We're on the 17th floor. The good thing is that we have an unobstructed view from our bedrooms and thus also the privacy. I like to live on high floors for apartments...the higher the better... I keep drooling at those lucky ones who got like 40th floor for Duxton.. This weekend, hb and I decided that we will visit the city gas showroom in town. Anyone been there before? We're thinking of buying a gas-fired water heater for the bathroom. Any comments? -
Congrats and best of luck for your reno.

Oh..haha... for a moment there I thot your kitchen was a 4th bedroom...but it's a nice layout, easy to arrange things cos no slanting walls and weird corners. Started hunting for IDs? What interior design themes do you have in mind?

Been a rainy week so not good for photos as the sky is always overcast and makes the flat's interior gloomy. However, managed to catch a bit of sun when I went over last weekend and got a couple of pics of the wiring works done plus views from my WIW and MBR. Wiring done for the living room and foyer More pics of the wiring works here... http://s401.photobucket.com/albums/pp92/mm...Wiring%20Works/ View of Lakeside from my MBR View of the CC, food centre and S11 food court from my WIW -
Hi, you've got a nice and spacious pad to do it up. So exciting. Wanna ask you, how much did you pay for your kitchen tap? Is it from PJ?
-
Thanks guys for all the advice. My hb and I will most prob go for the Rinnai one cos we like the design, esp the triple burner RB-3SS (GB) because it has an assymetrical alignment which is good for big woks and big pots. As for the chimney hood, I went to one of the other forumers house (who happens to also be my neighbour) for a short visit and then the hb said that if your ceiling and kitchen cabinets are not high enough, the position of the glass part for the RH 90CD hood will be at the height of a typical guy's head and so when cooking or cleaning, may keep knocking into the glass...ouch! Maybe I should seriously consider the Katana, won't have that problem cos the front end is slanted upwards.

Congrats! How big is your unit? Looks like an EM.

Oh dear...such a bad experience... these people dun realise that being in the service line, it is ultimately their service that counts... no matter how nice your stuff is, if you offer lousy service, people are not going to patronise your shop... Nevermind, I personally find your second choice dining set more 'swee' than your first one tho I like the full black look. Can I ask how much you paid for it? Your reno all finished liao? Mine starting next week. Maybe one day I pop by and look-see-look-see at your new place? hee

I nearly got the same dining lights as you. In the end, hb and I decided on another one that is also made up of 3-pieces on a row but is white-based. How much you spent in lighting altogether?
-
Yeah..beams are an irritating feature in most hdb flats... but look on the bright side, it can be an inspiration to a more creative design. I'm thinking...you can use your kitchen beam as a decorative feature..or even an island cabinet of sorts if you can somehow build cabinets around it... Anyway, welcome and wishing you all the best in your renovations.

Welcome! congrats on your new home. It's exciting hor? Wishing you all the best in your reno process. Post pictures of your designs ok?

Try Barang Barang for teak furniture? I have a fren who bought very nice teakwood stuff from furniture shops in Ho Chih Minh city (Vietnam). Prices there are a fraction of what you have to pay locally even after including the shipping. However, air ticket prices are another thing lah... good if you're "on the way there..." hee

Oh haha... if my food looks and smells good...i dun mind people staring and drooling...

Yup, did so cos the bomb shelter door is soooo ugly! It's the black panel behind the dining table. Have you rec'd any proposals from IDs so far? -

Hi guys, Hb ana I decided not to use a door for our kitchen cos I find it too troublesome. We're relying on a super good chimney hood to suck up all the smoke. Hehe. As for haulage, just received town council letter. Got to pay $270. Not as much as I though at first. Heard that some IDs cover the haulage charges as part of their package. -

Wow...that's fast. Have fun looking. Hopefully you find what you're looking for. -
Hi Zc31, How much did you pay for the retractable laundry thingy? I never used this type before. How does it work? Also, where did you get your bomb shelter cabinets from? How much did they cost u?

Looking at your photos, first thing I noticed were the great views of the surrounding greenery...nice! droolz... I also like your dining lights... clean-cut and minimalist taste. Keep it up! More photos pls...

I like full length mirrors...a must-have for me in my WIW There's a difference between a humidifier and a dehumidifier... The humidifier provides more moisture in the air esp if you always switch on aircon in a room, the air can become very dry and not good for ppl with sensitive skin or nose. So it works like a moisturiser. A dehumidifier sucks up moisture in the air...its a motorised version of the "thirsty hippo" that you see advertised everywhere and sold widely in supermarkets. You don't need installation for that, just plug it to a power socket and go. You can easily buy it for around $100 in best denki/harvey norman/courts.

Wow...nice fridge...we spent $1.4K on our F&P one and already our frens screaming ex liao... yours is ooh lah lah!!! Btw... I'm thinking of getting the same hob as you - the RB-3ss (GB) - and perhaps also the RH-90CD chimney hood from Rinnai. I like the tempered glass look. What model hood did you get? What was the total price you paid? Can share your contact?

Ok, here's some updates on our experience with electricial works and lights. Cost for electrical works: $2.2K Cost for lights and ceiling fans: $3K Total damage: $5.2K!!! Here's a breakdown of what I did Additional power sockets: - 4 sockets for tv console in living rm - 4 sockets for fish tank, ironing and misc in living rm - 3 sockets in dining for standing fan and misc (e.g. steamboat dinners) - 6 sockets in kitchen - 9 sockets in study - 3 sockets in WIW - 4 sockets in MBR Installation of new lighting points: - 24 points for downlights - 2 points for ceiling fans - 2 points for kitchen - 1 point for dining light - 1 point for foyer - 1 point for vanity cabinet in WIW Lights and fans purchased (all energy saving bulbs): - 1 dining light - 24 downlights - 1 crystal cube foyer light - 2 ceiling whitelights in glass for study and WIW - 2 ceiling whitelights in glass and aluminiun casing for kitchen - 1 ceiling whitelight in plastic for bomb shelter - 1 silver ceiling fan 56" - 1 black ceiling fan 48" [Pics are all in a link found in my earlier post] After this experience... lesson learnt and advice to share to all those who have not done up their lighting works....It's not really the type of lights you buy but the NUMBER of lights you have in your house. Most decent and nice-looking lights are all around the same price in Sg (unless you go for the really cheap ones). If I were to do it again, I would definitely have carefully considered the lighting needs in my design. I found that I couldn't reduce the number of lights to be purchased because it would jeopardise the overall design of my house. Downlights are a big culprit... if you install L-boxes everywhere, you can easily hit 40 pieces...each piece costing an average of $40...u can do the math... Anyway...no choice...lighting settled...over budget...sighz... so have to try to cut down on other areas... Hi LGG, My laminates are from Jennings Trading. Details: WPL 4822 SF white lilies WPL 4833 SF black lilies Hope this helps! -
My fren's brother did up his entire house using IKEA stuff. Looks quite cool and he saved quite a bit of money cos I think the most costly part of reno is all the carpentry works. However, I was forewarned that IKEA stuff dun really last very long cos the quality is not really there. But that's always an excuse to buy new furnitire later! Oh by the way, have you bought all your tiles? I went to this tile shop near Toh Guan for my floor tiles. The cream one that you were looking at I think can get for less than $2.50.
