I have 2 pets, a dog and a tortoise. Designing a brand new home with their needs in mind is exciting and challenging at the same time. So far, I've tried to make as many of my cabinets suspended where possible. This is because of my dog who likes to mark his territory. As for my tortoise, I once dreamt of a nice water feature-cum-pond... however, space is a constraint in my humble 5-rm flat...and my dog too. hehe. Anyway, would like to know if anyone out there also petlovers and petowners? Any useful tips/advice to give? My dog, Sunny! My proposed design for the 4ft tank to house my tortoise, comes with sump tank to suck up all the dirt and poop. Interior design will have to incorporate a dry area for basking. -
Is that a hydraulic lever system? cool. Did you ID give it to you as part of your package or did you have to pay extra for it?

Thanks for sharing. I guess I'll just wait for the SP officer, not nice to keep him waiting. Have fun with your reno. Any pics to share? -

Harlow neighbour! Our new home is at blk 182. You? Have you moved in yet? -
Nice drawings for your house... I have a friend who has a WIW similar to yours and because there's very little ventilation there, humidity levels do build up and mould can easily appear on clothes that you don't wear often. She ended up having to buy a dehumidifier. You might want to give this a thought. How about a full length mirror for the WIW?

Where Did U Buy Your House Lightings? Esp Chandelier...
mmycheng replied to instinctive84's topic in Home Furnishings
What's your budget? For me, I went to *** at Balestier. Balestier has a lot of lighting shops so you can go look see look see and compare price... Most nice chandeliers I've seen cost at least $800 and above. Anything cheaper I feel would compromise on quality. Actually, there's someone in the forum selling his chandelier for a bargain, think it's brand new. -

Ok...here's my first complain *of sorts*... Got an appointment with SP services to turn on utilities at my flat this saturday. They said that the officer will arrive between 10 - 11am. That's 1 whole hour of me and my hb standing at our flat waiting... 1 hour is a lot of wasted time, just for 1-2 minutes of work in turning on a switch. So I called them up to ask if they can give me a ring on my hp when the officer arrives. In the meantime, we will wait at the kopitiam at the foot of my block. The officer can call me when he arrives and I'll be there to meet him in no time. The person who took my phonecall explained that their staff's mobile phone bill is not subsidised and hence cannot accede to my request. She even suggested that if I did not want to wait for 1 hour, I can get my maid to do it (if I have one). Ok my take on this phonecall... 1. I can understand the situation and wouldn't want to add any more burden to the officer who's coming on sat so I didn't pursue the matter further with them. 2. However, I think it's ludicrous that they cannot improve their service standards by trying to cut short the waiting time to say half an hour. Point for future improvement... 3. Moreover, suggesting that I place my maid to do this is pretty 'mean'...there were demonstrations at Hong Lim Park on maid abuse just 3 days ago. I guess I can be more demanding when it comes to service standards. I suppose many of you had to go through this as well? Was it the same? -

Ok, more updates on my reno process. My hb and I chose our laminates and floor tile recently. It was a rather painless process. I was expecting it to be a big headache with all the colours and choices and all... but to our surprise, our ID laid out our designs and selected some laminates for us already. It was arranged all very professionally and easy to see so we didn't have a problem visualising how the laminates would fit with our design. In the end, we simply said 'OK!' to all her choices! Easy right? hee The only 2 things we did have to mull over were 1) the wallpaper and 2) the floor tile. Nonetheless, the experience was overall fun, no stress. Now we're left with choosing the wooden laminates for the bedrooms... will be doing that in a week or two. I've got more pics in the link below if you want to take a look at all my chosen laminates and tiles... http://s401.photobucket.com/albums/pp92/mmycheng/ Should take around 2 months I think...hopefully by end Nov all done up and can move in liao... keeping fingers crossed** -

Pictures of my interior designs you mean? They are provided by my ID...think they use photoshop. I prefer it this way, enable me to visualise better and I bring it everywhere when shopping for furniture so see if they match. Hee I bought my robots from this very forum..2nd hand sale! ... the guy who sold them for me has contacts for a reseller in the US who can ship it out for you. Otherwise, you can use Vpost. Search under forum topic 'garage sales and exchange corner' then under thread named 'scooba 380'. You should be able to find the seller and perhaps you can PM him. -

Hi hi...more pics...this time of my interior designs... Theme: Modern Key colours: Yellow, Black, White and Grey Main considerations: 1. Suspended cabinets as I've got a dog who likes to mark his territory all over 2. Functional for hb and me 3. As clutter-free as possible for easy cleaning More photos at this url: http://s401.photobucket.com/albums/pp92/mm...t=StudyArea.jpg -

Electrical wiring works already started...but I think the real hacking and wet works will only start in 2 weeks. I still need HDB to do the cement screeding for my bedrooms...just submitted the form yesterday. A bit scared they wun do a good job... read a fair bit of 'complains' about shoddy workmanship from the forum. -
Nice place you got there... I also like you very kiasu... bought furniture liao even though my reno haven't even started hee

I decided to start this t-blog after my hb introduced me to this forum a month ago. Since then, I have gotten countless tips and useful advice. So here's my little contribution showing snippets of our renovation process. It's still at it's teething stages, so I'll update it as and when more gets done at our new place. For starters, you can find pictures of my flat before reno here... http://s401.photobucket.com/albums/pp92/mm...nt=CIMG1506.jpg Pictures of things that we have bought can also be found at... http://s401.photobucket.com/albums/pp92/mm...ght_Dining1.jpg I feel like an artist... doing up a house from a blank canvass...hee

How much did you pay for your reno. More pics please... I got a unit at the same cluster of flats as you. Starting reno soon so would like to get more inspiration and hopefully advice too. hee

I got recommended to Atlantis previously... but I didn't enquire further after one of my frens told me he was quoted $6K for a 4ft planted aquarium designed as a divider in his living room... However, i do admit their stuff is very very nice...the money also very nice...hee
-
Depends on what type of aquarium you want and how committed you are to looking after it. There are fresh water, marine, planted etc... and you can spend anything from tens of dollars to thousands! I suggest you do some research on the Net first to get a rough idea. I'm doing up a 4ft tank for my tortoise at my new place. A couple of other friends who are also into keeping aquariums are doing up theirs around the same time. If interested, I can provide you some simple advice...but only after you know roughly what you're looking for..

Currently, I hang mine on a hanger and place it on the window grill to get some sun. It dries well and kills bacteria too. I personally dun like to put it in the bathroom. Too damp. For my new house, I'll prob fix a towel rack either in my MBR or walk-in-wardrobe and it has to be near the window. To get some sun. Hee.
-
I'm also new...roughly when (i.e. which part of the renovation process) should we start engaging people to do up our curtains?
-
Hi, My hb and I am thinking of getting a footstool instead of coffee table...one that can double up as surface to place things or prop up our legs..hehe. Any one bought footstools before? Any recommendations of good places I can try?
