Shopping For Christmas Tree – Recommendation Pls?
gakuseisean replied to tazzycorner's topic in Home Furnishings
Alternatively try buying a real tree. You can do so at Ikea or at florists like Far East Flora. It'll fill your home with that wonderful pine smell. That being said, it doesn't last, you'll have to throw it out after about a month (that itself is a bit of a hassle) but the experience is so warm and fuzzy that I've been doing it year after year. -
A matte marble/stone (like) floor would look good, laid in a brick like pattern, not the usual grid pattern we see today. Also, do incorporate Moroccan mosaics in some way or another, be it actually having it on the floor or a print of it framed up as wall art. As for lighting, I suggest yellow lights. If you need to read, use a free-standing reading lamp. White lights completely kill off any form of cozy atmosphere.

You could always try Ikea.

How about using frosted glass? Its pretty unique, is modern yet offers some sense of privacy.

Furnitures For New Home
gakuseisean replied to ngoisp's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
Hi that style can be considered to be a modernised version of Hollywood Regency. Anyway for furniture like that, you can try these 2 places: Marxx or Bruno Menzi -
Basically something like this right? Just that the ghost chairs are in crystal. Hmm it looks nice in the photo, though personally I think they would look better anchored to a more solid looking object (i.e. the table) A more solid table like this (similar to the Tulip table) Alternatively, this is slightly closer to your choice of a black glass top. Having a solid table would make the impact of a chandelier/crystal lighting a little less over-the-top, such that there are not so many see-through things around. Well that's just my 2-cents worth, in the end, its your home so as long as you like it, well who can stop you right?

COZY CORNER, IKEA Updated Here's a little reading corner, all furniture from Ikea.

Here are two ideas, 1. Make it into a statement. Perhaps you might like to thicken the pillar a bit, and paint it in an outstanding colour, or clad it in a material like wood veneer. Over here, the stairs are done in such a manner that they become a statement piece in the house. 2. Hide it. I have a feeling that behind the picture on the middle section of the wall is a pillar. You could extend the pillar a little such that it becomes a narrow wall, which you can use to hang pictures etc. Images from Home & Decor

MODERN BAROQUE Overseas, this look is generally refered to as the Hollywood Regency look. Also, for your oggling pleasure: http://www.designbymarxx.co.uk/ - Wonderful baroque styled designs.

Hmm how about blue mosaic tiles for the shower area, white epoxy painted walls for the rest, and a faux wood tile floor? That should hit closer to the inspiration that you loved. Image from Livingetc

Using a birch flooring (or a birch-style laminate) would create quite a Scandinavian feel to your home, especially if your walls are white, and the home would feel warm too. Using white homogeneous tile floors instead creates a more modern feel, but if your walls are also white, then it could get a little dull and cold. Here's how your home could look something like with birch floors. What white tiles could look like. Hope that helps.

MISC. INSPIRATION Inspired by Armani Casa A design I did for a standard HDB layout. Study, chair by Kartell (Kartell however does not offer this in leather) Lounge/Reading Area, inspired by a photo wall that I did for my own home. A similar shelf (not floor to ceiling) can be found at Air Division

Effect One: Repaint your walls to something light and airy (eg. cream, but not white). Hang pictures that are somewhat sketchy in style (May I recommend prints by George Barbier, who's works are like this) in white frames. If you want to have a mirror, use one with either a classical style frame or one like this. Have a spray of flowers in the bathroom in either a glass or white ceramic vase (May I suggest peonies or orchids - this one looks best in a pot). Lastly, use warm white lights, or if you can, mix warm white with daylight white lights. That way, the room isn't harshly white, neither is it too yellow. Also have elegant bedside lamps, those that are slender and delicate in design. Effect Two: Everything in Effect one, except paint the walls to a deep eggplant. This room would feel a lot more intimate than the first.

Where To Buy Swan And Egg Chair In Singapore?
gakuseisean replied to erwin123's topic in Home Furnishings
You can find the original ones, manufactured by Fritz Hansen, at Space Furniture. Not sure about the price range though. If you're looking for knockoffs, there are some at Evov and Lush, both of which I feel are comparable in terms of quality. -
Sofaandothers - Anyone Bought Anything From Them ?
gakuseisean replied to aerial77_00's topic in Living, Dining & Storage
I've not bought anything from them before, but most of the furniture that they manufacture are reproduction of high-end designer furniture (such as B&B Italia, Poliform etc.) made to the specifications of the customer. -
TRADITIONAL HOME Warm wood tones and eathy colours - all elements that contribute to a cozy and homely environment. Given that most of the pieces suggested in this lookbook are from Ikea, you don't have to burst the bank for this one.

Depends on the mood you are trying to evoke, and also the wall colour. Light flooring gives an airy feel, especially if it is coupled with light/white walls. This goes especially well with modern designer furniture, though it has a little bit of a showroom feel to it. Dark flooring on the other hand gives a warmer feel, especially if its parquet. It matches well with traditional furniture, such as those country or classical designs. Alternatively, if done with white walls, it can also evoke a zen-like atmosphere, especially with minimal and earth tone furnishings.

Anyone Know Where To Find This Coffee Table?
gakuseisean replied to ynove's topic in Home Furnishings
For the Tulip table: If you have the budget (say at least a couple thousand floating around), then go for the original, which you can get at Dream Interiors. Alternatively, try Harvey Norman, they have a replica of the Tulip coffee table that's made in Italy, and though that one is still quite pricey, its definitely a fraction of the cost of the original. As for the 1st coffee table, perhaps you could try Sofa & Others, they do seem to have designs that are similar to what you want. Though I'm not too sure about the manufacturing quality of this company. Hope that helps. -
MID-CENTURY MODERN With some pop-art accents UPDATED And here's how it could be done, without renovations, without any significant built-ins, just furniture. The Roy Lichtenstein print/similar prints can be found at Kinokuniya as well as The Wright Gift shop (Ion Orchard).

All of the following designs can be found on my blog: Inspiration ABOUT THIS THREAD While it may be titled "Living Room Inspiration", there are far more than just living room designs - you'll find inspiration for your bedroom and dining room as well. I started this thread some time ago as I was rather sick of the cookie-cutter designs that most interior designers in Singapore seem to offer their clients, and the little guidance they offer their clients in seeing the design concept from start, to end [i.e. furnishings]. You'll probably see that for most of my designs, the built-in components that I advocate are either kept to a minimum, or are designed to be visually non-obtrusive - that's because I believe that the quality of furniture tends to be better, and that they tend to define a room's purpose, hence they should be the key focal point of a room. Do feel free to ask for advice, be it on this thread, or on my blog. LOOKBOOKS THUS FAR Monochromatic Luxe (see below) Modern Pop Traditional Home Misc. You could try ordering a print from deviantArt. I've ordered a photo print before in around a3 size and the quality was quite good. -
Where Do You Get Designer Home Accessories ?
gakuseisean replied to JoanLim's topic in Home Furnishings
Go for the Eames in white leather -
Don't go for trends, go for something that lasts. Walnut is a beautiful wood, just don't overuse it as too much of the wood grain can be a little overwhelming. You could mix walnut with white marble, and maybe a warm light grey for walls. And for a resort theme, you gotta have lots of plants too Something a little like this (the colours and materials) would look great for a modern resort theme
