Hi everyone, Thanks for the compliment. I am very glad that the green house is finally coming together Cheng, Yah .. now that you mention ... if i paint yellow and white .. will resemble popcorn packaging? haa Bubble, Haa .. You can check with your ID on the pink stripes, that will be very sweet .. But for our case, our ID declined to help with the painting of stripes, that's why we did it ourselves. He did not want to give us a quote on the extra cost required (although we also not willing to pay if it is gg to cost a lot more) .. think too much co-ordination and effort required, so not worth it... However, he did explain to us on how to go about doing it and left us some paint for that .. but then not enough .. in the end still have to go and buy another small can ...

Hi Jacky, My ID's quote is very competitive similar to that of contractor's and I do get the 3D conceptual drawings .. Think he asked the designer of the reno firm to do .. so got a bit of communication problem then... I have the shoe cabinet custom made with green solid top haa ... a bit small but then no choice due to space constraint .. Thanks for the info, will go and check out the rugs at Evovliving after reno rectifications are done .. Did pass by the shop during shopping trip for lightings .. did not go in cos that time focus on finding lights Latest update:- Finally proceeded to paint the stripes for the study Tedious work .. have to do marking and tape down the masking tapes, followed by 2 days of painting cos need to wait for the first coat to dry before applying second coat. My hubby at work .. haa and the "reflection" is me ... taking photo.. I do most of the marking and taping so he do most of the painting. Yippee! It's done Some paint actually got pulled off together with the masking tape so have to do several touch up ... overall is okay ... at least it looked generally straight haa

Hi Rdnest, Yah .. at least they are reasonable. My husband told them that we have read bad reviews on red apple but the manager say not to worry, they are of different management... frankly speaking, if they are are nasty to us .. think we will just make a scene at the showroom haaa ... Hi Jacky, We went for furniture hunting on our own ... because our ID is actually more of a project co-coordinator rather than designer. Now learnt a huge lesson ... should go to showrooms with white light .. Thanks for the tips.. but already got a black sofa so was looking for green tv console ... but now landed with white one .. so mabbe a get green rug to put at the coffee table area bah ... Hi cheng, Yepz green cushion covers, will definitely get them ... thinking of getting white day curtain plus green string curtain for the living room, will have to find time to go to the curtain maker to check on the quality and to confirm if they have the green we want .... however, still searching for suitable curtain fabric for the rooms... Plants is a good idea too .. but I have black fingers instead of green fingers... scared they will perish in my hands

My bid to get green stuff for my house is filled with obstacles ... Firstly, was told that we won't be able to get the shade of green solidtop which we like .... luckily the issue was resolved but not after much anxiety ... Secondly, the tempered glass backing for my hob & hood area came in the wrong color ... it came in white although it is supposed to match the green solidtop shoerack cum bartable. This mistake cost another 1-2 weeks of delay ... And today yet another disappointment ... we are supposed to be receiving our tv console from mode studio ... which we thought is green... But it came in pale yellow which shocked us. We called them up .. thought they have make wrong delivery but they told us it is correct and they dun sell furniture with green theme ... We are like huh?!? We went down to mode studio because we saw their advertisement in Home Decor ..and that Tv console is reflected green and when we went down to their studio to check ... it appears green too ... even the ones shown in the brochures which we gotten from the showroom is green! They explained that it is because of the lightings ... their showrooms used warm lights so there will be color variations. Isn't that misrepresentation?? The sales lady could have warn us about it.. right from the start, we refer the set that we are getting as green ...and we mentioned our house theme is green. And when she wrote on the invoice as yellow, we told her we dun want yellow ... then she say the set is greenish yellow or yellowish green but the product name code is yellow... so we never questioned that... becos we thought what we see is what we get. But in daylight, when we see the set .. I couldn't see any tinge of green in it ... We did not accept the delivery and head down to the showroom. We went down feeling very angry and I am in distress because we have paid in full ... so my husband did most of the talking, think I might burst out screaming haa, which wun help with the situation. We talked to the branch manager, he appeared calm and asked us to take a seat. My husband point to their brochure and said "I dun think anyone will dispute that this it green right" and the very angry me added that I can do a survey in their showroom to prove the case ... he has no answer to this and continue his explanation .. He tried to explain that it will be unfair if we put the blame on the sales lady because it is very subjective when it comes to colors. Anyway, we mentioned we are not here to pinpoint whose fault is it, and ask how does he suggest we resolve the issue so that we can be satisfied customers. He stood firm and told us politely that he does not mean to offend us but he has to let us know that the company is not obliged to make changes. However, it will not be a win-win situation for them as well. So he offered us a choice of white, black and ivory for exchange. By then, I have calmed down a fair bit .. We accepted the arrangement to exchange for a white one. Generally, I think the manager has handled the case well. Very calm and patient when facing two agitated customers. But thumbs down for the sales lady, my husband say he stared at the sales lady who process our purchase and she dun even dare to look back .. At the end of the day .. although I did not managed to get the green console I want ... at least I wun be stuck with a pale yellow "eyesore" and to have to curse them everyday.. Hope the "green curse" will not happen on my dining set coming in Jan .... Bought a dining set from xzqt with green theme chairs .. if that is problematic too .. then I will faint

Hi both, Thanks for the advice .. in that case I have to manage my expectations..... And mmycheng congrats! can move in tmr ... -
Reviews you have read must be quite bad to make you strike them off your list. I also experienced hiccups in their delivery ... and some of minor defects .. like one of the fluorescent light not working .. they replaced it so is okay ... Did not take notice of what light bulb or tube are used leh
-
Got them from Palace of Lights ... settle most of the lights from there .. was told by the sales guy that the other light in the living room with 3 yellow bulbs is also a good buy, because his colleague quoted us wrong price (a lower price) earlier so they will be selling to us at a big discount .... dunno true or not haa .. took it with a pinch of salt but we got 2 of those as we like its simplicity.

Hi Cheng, Can I consult you regarding the tempered glass in your kitchen? After your ID make rectification, is the black tempered glass one whole piece of glass with a cut out for the hood? I also did the tempered glass for my kitchen .. but was unhappy that is turn out this way ... pieces of tempered glass are put in place instead of one whole piece so there is a unsightly line. Thus, if urs can be done as one whole piece, I will get ID to redo. They got the color wrong as well Appreciate your help. Thanks -
Hmmm quite a big difference ... come to think of it .... think the sales guy did mention to us that the lights are on promotion, the display price is 130 if I am not wrong.. But I did not take much notice of it then cos I thought is a norm that the display price is much more expensive than quoted price...
-
Ya lor .. usually onli home owner will pick on such small details Haa Paid $80 each , think the price shld be reasonable ... the bamboo lampshade i bought for service yard at IKEA already cost $59 haa and still have to go and buy the bulb separately .... Is the price similar to what you got urs for?
-
Mwerkz & Pinkpetter, I did not know at first too cos think the shop only displayed the transparent , white and black ones. We were cracking our heads at the light shop over what lights to get for the rooms. At first, the sales guy recommend us the black one too because black will have a nice contrast up against the white ceiling. However, we told him that our room's theme is orange and we are looking for a orange light, so he told us that it comes in orange as well ! And there are many colors to choose from .. very happy to see that they have the lime green too I got the transparent one for our spare room cos it doesn't have a color scheme at the moment. Haa One bad point I feel about these lights is that we can see the internal wirings ..
-
... ya country theme not suitable for bright colors but is a nice theme as well ... Here are some more pics of my lights:- Matching orange light for the MBR Got the same light for the kitchen but in green .. Hee Will upload the pic when the kitchen is done .. Light at the entrance of MBR Got this nice lampshade at IKEA which we think is very suitable for our MBR ... However, after we install, we realized a problem.. cos it is meant to be a table top lampshade with smaller bulbs .. so when used as hanging lamp ... the bulb will be exposed ... haa .. will find a way to fix that when free. Lights in the living room

Oic ... and wow ... I prefer the "daylook" of the MBR .. Haa .. Btw, check with you, is your curtain fabric and the sofa cushion seat fabric from Ikea? You bought fabric and get them custom made?
-
That's nice ... mine also "premium" flat but doesn't come with the shower screens ... and no budget for that at the moment, so have to settle for shower curtain.
-
I just kaypoh onli ... since my hse already in the process of renovation .. then what abt yourself? So u asking ID to come up with conceptual plans only then u go source for contractor yourself? Btw, your common toilet is quite nice ... the shower screen is from HDB as well? not bad ..

The Home We've Been Looking Forward To

Finally is your turn to do reno after doing homework for quite a while ... My family tried to paint our pipes on our own before.... The previous painter we hired (my dad's fren) painted the house's metal gate, door frames and pipes light purple becos he thinks is nice (without consulting us). Dad accepted cos friend mah, not good to scold ... So after living with the purple pipes for a few yrs we decided it is time to paint it back to a "normal" color ... I helped to paint the metal gate and door frame ... very tiring and my workmanship is lousy ... a lot of flaking and drip marks ... My dad painted the pipes ... he used brush at first .. but too slow so he put on a pair of plastic gloves followed by a pair of cloth gloves and dip his hands into the paint and "handpainted" the pipes ... *This is not a tip ... just a funnie story to share haaa ... cos not advisable -
can understand your frustration .... the defects you have shown is really unacceptable ..really hate IDs who dun do their jobs in ensuring the reno is done properly and expect clients to accept whatever thrown to them instead of asking the contractors to rectify... Frankly speaking, I am also not too happy with the workmanship of my reno ... so has also been thinking that in the event if ID refuse to rectify the issues then will go and complain to the boss .. although I also dunno who the boss is .. However, when the need arise, mabbe can check at www.acra.gov.sg .. need have to pay 5 bucks to purchase their business profile ... I have not reach that stage yet since ID is willing to rectify and hopefully yours can also be resolved without gg through more troubles...

Love this pic .. good enough to be featured on magazine as well Oh yar and the monkeys added a touch of humor .. so you and ur hubby born in the yr of monkey?? Do take a pic of your bedroom in daylight .. wish to see the purple wall and compare with the one taken in yellow lighting It seems that you did a more elaborated common toilet as compared to MBR's one ...

Thanks for your encouragement pinkpetter haa ... trying not to erupt so as not the spoil the working relationship .. Endure ! Hi pinkitsch, U mean the one in my study room? Paid about 900 dollars for the L-shaped tempered glass (10mm thick), and paid additional for the wooden framing.. If i did not remember wrongly, the long side is about 3m .. not encouraged becos it is too long to be fitted and transported up the lift .. so as you can see, mine consists of 3 panels at the long side ... do keep that in mind when you do urs unless you stay on ground floor then no issue Another blogger mmycheng also did a L-shaped tempered glass for her study but hers is shorter.. so design kept clean with just 2 full panels. And another point to note is that in order to do the half wall L-shaped hacking, some contractors will encourage to hack away the whole wall first then rebuild a low wall for structural stability reasons .. so hacking might also cost more becos will factor in extra for rebuilding the wall as well ... PE endorsement is also another major cost.

Here are the pics ... I like this service yard veri much . It looks so cozy. Pendant light from Ikea. We got 2 of these lights, will be putting at the TV console area and the dining table in the living room. Think is quite hard to get the lights installed straight cos have to balance on the thin wires..... now it hangs a bit crooked .. has requested them to be rectified. A bit upset because the reno has been ongoing for abt 2 months and the funitures are scheduled to be in soon (had already delay once ), so think this time have to pay for storage fees if gg to delay again .... But on the bright side, more things has been completed now that the lights , the bathroom accessories and plumbing is done ....

To get your dream house is indeed like striking lottery... HUAT arh.. Nice squarish layout ..

Ya .. it is indeed very disappointing when contractors take little pride in making sure that workmanship is up to standard ..... that's why I am feeling a bit blue with my reno progress liaoz .... But good for you ... saw that most of ur funiture are in .. and your place looks great! Simple Human Trash Bins We saw this at Home-Fix compasspoint today and it's selling for over 200 ... My hubby was fascinated by it .. keep on "open & close" the bin ... so funnie... -
Payretep, Thanks thanks ... but for this kind of open concept, have to make the effort to keep the study room neat next time... Pinkpetter, You are welcome ... Love their lights, hate their delayed delivery timings ... The lights were finally delivered on Friday ... at around 5.30pm and I waited from 1pm. But luckily, kept myself occupied by assembling some bathroom accessories and a small cabinet bought from IKEA ... & in between a curtain sales lady dropped by .. so was shown some curtain samples and given a quotation ...at first I was thinking to get the curtains and roller blinds from IKEA to save cost because customizing the curtains for the whole hse can easily cost up to 1.5k-2k .... However, on second thought, it may be good to invest on better quality ones for the long run... The lights are not installed yet as we have decided to let our ID co-ordinate the installation instead after Thurs incident with Palace .. ID can only arrange manpower to do it next week, he say HDB dun allow installation and drillings on weekends ...... Will take some pics to share when the lights are up
