OMG! How did HDB ever become so expensive!?! I suspect the price will jump upwards at Linear Green again once the new mall is up and running. The only concern is how it will affect traffic along the single-lane 2-way road that leads into LG. Hope the mall's car park entrance is along Changi Rd and not Bedok Central!

I understand that Linear Green flats are relatively new and probably no resale units will be available for another few years. But I am curious how much would a 5-room unit fetch if it is in the resale market? anyone got any ideas?

No need to spend the extra $ paying for the KDK brand. Just go buy a Panasonic standing fan. Comes from the same factory with exactly the same functions, just different brand labels.

'not so final' means like laying of wires/cables. for the final connections, its like where should each cable/interconnect go to 'which hole' on the dvd/amp, etc. - how to connect cable box > amp > tv or dvd/blu-ray > amp > tv using different cables (interconnects, hdmi, etc.). then once connected, a good installer should also help you tune. It really comes down to what you intend to buy. Are you buying a HT (home theater) system (all in 1) or are you buying separate pieces. Perhaps if you can share in details on the pieces of equipments you intend to have, so that it will be easier for us to help you figure out the mess out! It can get a little complex given the different cables involve!

On the surface, with the kind of features and price for the Bosch washers, it is very attractive. The problem is that Bosch's 'teardrop' drim is nothing like the honeycomb by Miele. In fact its nowhere close. All you need to do is to put your hand into the drum and feel those 'teardrops'. It is edgy and not completely smooth as compared to the honeycomb! Which means when the machine starts to spin and tumble wash your clothes, it is going to be 'abusive'! Its not going to destroy the shirt or pants, but if you wash those regularly, its is going to affect the fabric. I believe the 'teardrop' Bosch was created to compete with Miele. Feature wise, yes, it is very good. But the drum design is probably a mistake. Otherwise, why do you think those Bosch are price so competitively here when its supposed to cost much more when you do the currency conversion. For front load, you cannot go wrong with Electrolux and the time manager models are excellent cuz now you can determine the time based on how dirty your clothings are. this will translate to energy and water saving in the long run. But if your budget permits, just go for the Miele honeycomb! cannot go wrong.

what do you mean by 'suitable for local use'? If not suitable, they wouldn't be selling it here! If its whether do you need such a fridge, then it will depend on your budget. But since you are asking about it, its ok to presume that you can afford it and willing to consider it. From a quality standpoint, its industrial grade - meaning it builds like a tank that is suitable for professional kitchens! From excellent build quality with quality parts, quiet, accurate temp controls and it looks beautiful especially the one with the wine cellar compartment. I have worked in places with professional kitchens equipped with these fridges and see how they hold out with the all kinds of abuse thrown at them everyday! If you are very concern about electrical consumption or gadgets, then you might be better off considering the japanese or korean brands. Liebherr is just a good, no nonsense kind of fridge! You can check with the shop on the electrical consumption. I think it will be higher than most in the market but not ridiculous! You do need to consider if you have the space for it! And if you have an open kitchen concept, a Liebherr is going to be the star on that room!

I agree with Wally. Feature walls to hang your plasma/lcd is a complete waste of $ unless you really need everything to be streamline. You can get really nice european design tv consoles (there are some that can allow you to hang the tv) all around these days.

Choppy - to prevent confusion and hearing craps from salespeople, the 1st thing you need to do is to decide on a budget. how much are you willing to spend for each item ( washing machine and tv). then base on your budget, you can go do your shopping. For washing machines, there is front and top load. If possible, get front load cuz its gentler on the cloths (if you have expensive pieces) and water saving. But front load are more expensive than top load machines, but in the long run, its worth it given that you need to wash regularly. Next, in terms of brand, Electrolux washers are reliable. The latest Electrolux models that uses 'time management' (allow you to determine the wash time) is excellent! There are a number of brands out there that pretty much have the same machine but just different prices n brand labels n minor variations. So you just need to decide on your budget n shop base on that. For tv, again budget. If you can wait, I suggest you wait until the next computer/pc show which I think is going to be either August or Sept. That is the best place and time to get a bargain. No matter what Courts or HN or Best is doing on the papers over the weekend, their deals never beat the deals offered during those IT shows cuz there are tons of freebies (shopping vouchers, etc) given by the manufacturers along with retailer discounts. For plasma, the clear winner is Pioneer but its ex (they only make newer models that are 50 inch or more). For anything below 50 inch, take Panasonic. For LCD, unless you like and need the slim look of the Samsung LED, otherwise, don't waste your $. It is basically a 'beautified' LCD (with minor tech improvement) that cost significant more. Unless your eyes are very critical, normal people will never see the difference unless all your equipments (like dvd, blu-ray, etc) is also up to specs. Technology for tv is ever changing within 6-12 months range so no point getting the latest. Sony Bravia is ex cuz of the brand but its old technology. Samsung LCD is respectable enough especially the older high end ones. I believe it should be cheaper now cuz they are heavily promoting the LED series. LG is decent and value for $. Sharp is ex but good for consideration if can afford. Hitachi has a slim LCD model which can be considered as well as their Plasma. Philips LCD is pretty good but not everyone can take the sharpness/clarity of their images. For tv, just bring along a disc you are familiar with to test the tv. ask the salesperson to set the tv at factory default setting for every brand that you test so that you can really see the 'raw' or original colors of the brand. then again, each shop may use different quality cables or dvds to play, but a factory default setting is pretty much the best option you have in knowing the brand's characteristic. If you are going to buy from those mass retailers like Harvey, Best or Courts, do your bargaining hard n be prepared to walk away from the deal. Usually if you can bundled your purchase (buying more items), you will have more bargaining leverage. Ask for everything from extensive warranty, accessories, etc. for them to sweeten the deal. There is a recession and the electronic companies are in hard time. Don't lets any sales person sweet talk you. its your hard earn $, you should stretch them for every $ worth! hahaha! hope this helps! good luck!

If you are buying new equipments, I believe the specialty hi fi shop can do the final connections for you unless you are getting it from the mass electronic shops (eg Courts, HN, Best). In terms of laying the cables/wires, your ID's electrician can lay it in for you before the false ceiling/LBox going up. Based on experience, I recommend that you get the electrician to test the wires before/or after its being laid (before its covered up). You just need to be clear on where you want the points (speakers) to be. For cables/wires, you should source it on your own cuz you will be able to get better quality ones for 'lower cost' as compared to the ones you get or buy from the hi fi shops. A good place to go is Sim Lim Square, 2nd level, AVIT (if i remember the name correctly). They specialize in cables/wires. Ask for Winson. He should be able to point you to the right direction. Just invest in good wires (not too expensive ones - around $5-10 per metre is good enough for surround speakers) and more for the front speakers.
