hihi, anyone overlay their toilets here? i was told by one ID that there are problems with overlaying, as the toilet is pre fabricated, tiles are hollow, may not be durable enough to hold on to the overlay tiles... Like to check if anyone did any changes to their toilets here??thanks!

anyone has any idea on prefabricated toilets ? I was told overlaying is not recommended, because of the hollow wall tiles.which may not be durable enough to hold on the over laid tiles.....I am so sad..one ID recommended cement screeting (something like tt)..and i paint over it... anyone has experience with overlaying a prefabricated toilet?

The Quotes Sigh. Today we receive the quote from A&D and also Ideal house..A&D quote has been based on our latest layout, and it cost almost 28k N it includes overlaying of only ONE toilet..Y do toilet cost so much???? 3.5k per toilet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need further discussion, negotiation ,..... Ideal house layout was nice (based on our old requirement of hacking of all rooms, and resizing (yeah....we were abit haywired..) Requirements have changed greatly...but the quote they gave was abt 24k. which we thought was reasonable for tt amt of work. But... after i emailed him my changes, i begin to suspect his revised quote wont be cheap either... sobsob....n yes...changes to be added in quote include the glass room, toilet, n bar table...cross my fingers.... Was our budget impossible? So far, impress 21 gave the best quote at about 20k... Though it was also based on our old requirements of hacking everything, but it did include overlay & vanity for BOTH toilets....though i am not sure if they are strong in design, seems they are more towards contractor? Gplan was around 23k, based on old requirements too...with toilets. Their strength would probably be in design. Probably need to re discuss again. Its another Loooooong wkend...

Entertainment cum gaming room, his gym, my WIW... My layout plan (with drawings) Today, a creative friend of mine gave me a new idea for the glass room. (1)To create a cozy area in the glass room. It consist of a rattan hang chair, a english tea table, probably a sandbag and alot of cusions. It will my my cozy reading area. Or my chit chat area with my girl friends (guys will probably be gaming with waxus in the entertainment room or working out in the gym with him). It be perfect if it has a sky painted wall/ wall paper My creative friend also gave another brilliant idea.. (2)To put a jacuzi inside the glass room!!!!!It be perfect especialli since the WIW is juz behind the glass room. its brilliant, but...but..its a glass room!!! But its brilliant,....though i doubt i got the courage to do it....haha Other thoughts for the glass room is, a dining area, a bar counter (but we dont drink....can we eat ice cream there? ) or the pool table... Hmmmmmm..any suggestions??? Which would u choose if u were me?

hehe. There is this area in the living room, beside the bomb shelter, that we want to box up using glass (becoming a show case). Initial plan was to be a gym. ID search continued... 6) A-Win We visited them at the early stage of our search. It was nothing but a waste of time..tsk tsk... he asked us to give exact specs of the carbinet etc that we wana do...how would we noe??? Then we ask him for suggestions on the odd shape living room... he say "ohh..this one..very difficult." so he proceed to write "很难" (very difficult) in the layout plan!!! he then say, need design, u must pay $300, then we do 3 D for u... we ask him, no quotation, why proceed to do 3D. He say "must do drawing first, then can quote. " !!!!&!#????!!!!! we questioned a few times, as we thought we misunderstand him..But..no..he really meant it!...ok..off we go.. 7) Inside Living-Miss J Shes highly recommended by one of our neighbor to be, whom i know thru the forum. I couldnt find anything in the forum about this company. Has anyone deal with them before? She is really nice. She agreed to meet us at 9pm on a saturday night..and we chatted till 11+pm. It was her, that gave us the idea of not hacking the rooms, but still creating space for what we wanted. kudos to her. I was a bit concern, on the fact that most of her designs are white based. While i like white (and i drool over her white kitchen), i do prefer brighter and stronger colors. But she commented that white is a strong color. Guess we need more discussions on this:) Her quote for overlaying my toilets was the highest amg all..4 k per toilet.wonder why? Perhaps shes being upfront while others may have hide some costs? But overall, 1st impression on her was excellent. Now awaiting for her quote, and round 2 discussion. 8) A&D -Mr J Hes a busy man. Our appt clashed with another couple one. (we were early, they were probably late or he might have scheduled the appts too close). But he was nice enough to entertain us, and ask his collegues to talk to the other couple. He was rather professional and ideas were quick. He did a different layout for us, than most other ID did. Saw his portfolio, and he does quite a few different design themes. (though i still prefer Miss J's white kitchen) Now, we'll wait for his quote and see how it goes. Looking forward to both of their quotes!!

yup! but talking to ID does give us interesting knowledge & ideas. at first when we talk to the 1st ID, we wanted to hack 1 room & 1 living room, then ater talking to 2nd, we wanted to hack all. Then after talking to a few more, now we realise we dont need to hack anything ! Its quite amazing. I guess its also good to talk to more

We started visiting a couple of IDs. 1) Darwin (visited them mainly because they are so near my place) A very chatty & helpful id, but hes veryvery young..younger than us both!He was able to propose some ideas, on spot. being our 1st start at talking to ID, it was quite informativeBut, after we review the quote, we thought the price was a bit ex. we were quote 21k, for hacking 1 bedroom, 1 wiw, 1 kitchen, 1 feature wall, 1 tv console & the basics for a premium flatSome of the things he said cant be done..i chance upon in other forumers blog....e.g tv console for my weird looking living room2) GPlan (Mr K)Like all other comments about him, he looks like david gan...hehe..he hates this remark,...He was very creative. Able to propose much on spot..and spend 1 whole day with us, bring us to his finished work & drawing out layouts for usHis price was reasonable, though still ex for poor us. we were quote 23k for hacking all rooms, and resizing them, wiw, kitchen, overlay 1 toilet. We had some minor issues with his email.he repeatedly emailed, but we never received. But as he does follow up with calls, we do believe its the fault of the weird email system.we probably will meet up with him again to discuss further. The house is still empty after 23k...sob..and theres much to add, e.g tv console, feature wall, shoe rack etc 3) Ho Bee Contacted via email, no response yet (abt 1 wk) 4) Henry, Impress 21 We visited his shop, but he wasnt around. Thus we emailed him our plan and things we wanted to doHe said he'll get back to us in 1 wk time 5) Ideal House, Mr S Well, ideally, i wanted to look for Mr K, coz of the raves. But i didnt have his contact, so i emailed the company. Mr S called me instead, saying that Mr K is busy, and he can help me. Thus we fixed an apptAt the very same time, Bf managed to get hold of Mr k, who told him to email our floor plan to him . (he didnt know Mr S called me). It wasnt nice to be in touch with two IDs...so we thought we will stick to Mr S. Thus we met up with him and discuss. He was a rather polite and patient guy.He listened to our comments and gave some good feedbacks. but he didnt propose much on spot, and said he'll do he layout and quote us in 1 wk time. Discussion was very short. I sms him one wk later, but he said he was tight and will get back to us in another wk's time.At the same time, Mr K called my bf again to remind my bf to send him the floorplan..Sigh..we thought mr k was bizer..Regrets.... Bf told Mr k that Mr S has contacted us on his behalf already....heart pain...still waiting for quote & layout from Mr S This week , we be visiting Miss J from inside living and Mr J from A&D. Shall update again

Been surfing t-blog so often, thought i'll start one to note the whole journey of renovation too. Milestone of our little hut Selecting of flat (erm...i forgot the date..)Collecting our keys (1 July 08)Opening of door ( 4 July 08)Rectification works (lasted abt 3 wks) Hunting for renovation ID/contractors ( 24 nov - ?) Layout plan Photos 1) Odd shape living room 2)Ugly toilets (i hope they can go...) The hunt for ID is tiring. Weekends are probably non existence. But, it was exciting and interesting, to visualise the little hut we have in future!
