no worries! so long u feel peaceful at heart..everything is going to be okie! praying and doing rituals are just a form of activity that most laymen do for peace of mind...just like most people will visit temples whenever they have problems..that kind of stuff..if u are a freethinker..just continue and don't force yourself to pray this pray that ..cos lots of praying rituals handed down from generation to generation may not be correct..it is Folkslore..not Taoist, buddhist, or any other religion..If pray wrongly may ended up worse...

if you are still confused after paying fengshui masters tons of monies..watch this taiwanese programme 風水! 有關係it will teach u BASICS enough to enhance your home. 1.stove must never be near a window for practical reasons(unless u cook at all)..but make sure the floor trap is not directly above the stove (it's another water and fire cannot be together). 2.contactor is right to say it's logical for basin to be near window(always has a safe distance between stove, basin and fridge, the 3 common items in kitchen) 3.Make sure the Fridge's door do not FACE d toilet door DIRECTLY(some flats have common toilet in kitchen) cos if you do..u will always get sick! dear cozydreams..your house designs looks gorgeous..but is it good to place a god near a TV(very noisy!) secondly...white and black are modern colours for a modern home..if u just wanna put a god just for 保平安...place it on a altar surrounded by 4 sides and a solid back just like as your above 3d visual..preferably try to use wood patterns(for 4 sides and back) and refrain from fancy tones/patterns..when u place the statue onto the altar..the statue's eyes MUST BE HIGHER than your eye level(when u stand in front of it). Basically there are 2 types of heights for 2 different types of altars for buddhas/bodhisattvas/gods. 1) namely just for 保平安..just made sure the statue's eyes MUST BE HIGHER than your eye level(when u stand in front of it) as a sign of respect. 2)altars for buddhists that do Daily practices/prayers where you are sitting in lotus position most of the time u are facing the altar. In this case, again made sure the statue's eyes MUST BE HIGHER than your eye level(when u sit down and pray in front of it).

but i agree that marriage is for life! when 2 persons from different religions marry.. they will surely clash! but i believe ALL religions teaches "beauty of LOVE"..1 of u has to refrain from setting up an altar IF YOU ARE FROM DIFFERENT RELIGIONS to refrain from clashes..

Just to share my little knowledge about altars..i used to be a interior designer and often gives advices to my fellow buddhists on how to set up altars that kind of stuffs..i have also seen a lot of strange things that new home owners does..like "design a floating altar on top of a fountain"....edenstrauss is right to ask WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE to set up an altar..this is extremely inportantly!Just to share..i set up an altar at my home cos i'm a practising buddhist..i do daily prayers in front of my altar..thus my altar gives me a focal point to do my daily practices peacefully and SAFELY. But to set up an altar, there are many RULES...most importantly you must know what is your purpose of setting up an altar cos if it's not properly done..u are inviting trouble! If a statute is not blessed by a professional(monks/taoist masters from big temples) and u just set it up and place a urn in front of it..BIG trouble. Statues or religious stuffs that is not 开光 means d statue is empty! If it's empty..any passing spirits will stay inside and made it its home..and urn with daily incenses like that are INVITING More & more of them to come!!

seems like this WHITE Sage is a kind of plant/herb from U.S.and many users claim that White Sage is helping them. From a buddhist point of view..yes if everything fails..try WHITE Sage! if things improve, great isn't it??? but don't oversell this product.. from my understanding, healers(wester9n) uses herbs or even salt to clear bad qi..whereas Tibetan Buddhists uses combination of (herbs made into incenses/powder and blessed by lamas), mantras and daily buddhist practices to clear bad qi from their bodies and their home surroundings. Water blessed by GuanYin 大悲咒 has the same effect too.

Then tell him you are going to 动土on date/month/time and ask him to bless you and d house. After 5 mins, burn d paper offerings in front of the offerings/food. For me..i have been to numerous contractors/ids in expos..and find most are harddriving to "close" your reno sale with goodies/promotions..and also been to 3 design firms before settling with three-d conceptwerke(designer lucas)whom i can click with.. From 1st inital meeting with lucas..he try to understand our lifestyle needs/wants and explains these info will translate to he redesigned spaces and looks. I am impressed by the portfolios he show on how he translates these lifestyle needs to our own homes with our own "soul and character"..I always look forward to shopping together to look for vintage furniture/accessories and interesting lights..reno is tiring but upon seeing how a blank space becomes my home is worth it..with reno coming to an end, i realised the difference between contractor and designer.. Contractor merely follows your orders and is good for owners who have done several renos with experienced designers..whereas a designer offers personalised service by trying to know us and guide us from design,overall look to types of furnitures/furnishings//lightings.So far no regrets and i love my new home

During my shopping trips for my house..i some how became a "guru" on where to get nice stuffs at a good price..i went to LUSH and saw that they have very nice rugs..but i tested their prices to squeeze for a good discount..the sales persons there got a bit irritated and i got pissed off too..who don't ask for discounts? 1 of the guys, called Norman who is the manager there..told me that their prices are reasonable especially now because of the GSS..i ask about 1 of the rugs i like and is told that i have to wait 6-8 weeks because it is indent basis...i'm a bit shaken and he advises me to check out Molecule and other stores who sells similar rugs.. My wife and i checked out the Molecule at great world city..indeed it looked very similar to the one at L..H..we look around and seems that no one wants to talk to us..then we checked out evov..massimmo..objet..AIR... I finally bought mine at LUSH cos the price is reasonable..and the guys there give me good advice..but beware..don't keep asking them about discounts and discounts..haahaa. Verdict: good price and good colour-coordiantion advice at LUSH..but seriously they don't give customers good 1st impressions because they look a bit stuck-up..overall ok..
