  1. Got this bowl and regretted it. Firstly the toilet seat is uncomfortably narrow, leading to numb legs. The seat also makes it hard to do business. I realised that my anus was prolapsing each time I used this toilet bowl for big business. It doesn't happen with other bowls. As the shape is not standard, you can only buy new seats (which are the same uncomfortable shape) from Baron for $50+. Other normal seats are around $20+. I may just replace the entire bowl seeing that I am concerned about the health problems this may cause.
  2. I chose Samsung for fridge because it seemed like the only one that came in white, and wasn't terribly expensive (like Whirlpool or something.) Got it two years ago, with fridge, tv and microwave. The stuff is still in working condition.
  3. I bought a front load Samsung, don't remember what model, almost two years ago. It's still working (touch wood). I find it rather quiet, except for a short time during the drying cycle when it's starting to spin really fast, then it quiets down. Must make sure it's level, or it gets rather noisy! When it's done, there's a short melody to inform you. I enjoy using it - has delay function, and up to 1000 RPM for drying. The inside is a steel drum, which I read was more durable on these forums. I don't know what other features the newer washing machines these days have though.
  4. Saw that home fix has some brands of stone cleaners. However, I have not tried them yet, so I do not know how good they are.
  5. Oops .. so many S's in the mattress biz - thought there'd be more Zs. Thanks for the correction. I guess if the mother is sleeping alone, the pocketed spring is not a must-have, right?
  6. How often do you refer to your course materials? I have been doing my courses and I found that I can find the information on the internet if I remember the name of the theory/subject. So I have thrown most of the notes from my short courses out. That should get rid of the bulk of the stuff so you find you don't really need extra storage. If you do, buy a book shelf and display the books properly. Try and get a solid wood one. Though expensive, they look nice and the shelves will not bend as much when using chipboard materials. Can also consider installing built-in shelves so they cover one entire wall. This gives the room cleaner lines and it reduces clutter. To make the room look even airier, go without doors. If you want to make it easy to clean, go with mirrored doors. Doubles up as a wardrobe mirror.
  7. Did you specify galvanised wrought iron? My contractor told me that there was no need since water never gets onto the gate, but I insisted. So far so good, fingers crossed. Only costs about 90 dollars extra.
  8. Actually, Simmons isn't the best. There are the 3'S - Simmons, Sealy and Serta. I have heard wonderful things about Serta, but it is not exactly cheap. On the other end, I have a colleague who enjoys her Dunlopillo. Pocket springs are not new technology, neither is it limited to Simmons. So, do go and try out the beds, lie in the ones you want for 15 mins to get a good idea of which bed you like best before taking it home. Also, for info, do a search around the net for any complaints. Simmons seems to have more than its fair share on the review websites.
  9. Robinsons and Simmons both carry the Glendale. Is this the one with plush or pillowtop? Not recommended to get because the latex layer will soften after 2 mths and it won't be as comfortable anymore. Just get a spring mattress and then get a mattress protector/overlay. So if the overlay softens, you can change easily.
  10. I can empathize. I was looking for my induction cooker at R*na electrical in Orchard. The sales assistant could not answer any of my questions and had the cheek to ask me if I was there to do a survey or buy something. I wanted to slap her. Instead, I just said 'thank you' politely and left the store. I bought my teka hob from Poh Joo at Jln Besar instead, which was highly recommended and for good reason. The sales lady accompanied me for about 2 hrs while I was making up my mind on the stuff I wanted to get! She even skipped lunch to serve me. Poor thing.
  11. Unfortunately, mattresses are very very personal. You can play it safe by getting something with no overlay (i.e. no plush or pillow top) with just the spring mattress. Then add your desired layer (viscoelastic, foam etc) for comfort. My friend buys sea horse brand and just put a viscoelastic layer on it and he says it's very comfortable. Another thing to note that though firm mattress are recommended, it does not mean hard. Hard mattresses can cause pressure points at heavier parts of the body, causing pain. Thus they are more suited for lighter bodied people. Be specific about the model you are buying - sellers have been known to deliver the wrong models. Lastly, never pay full-price - the shop assistants will want to get full value from you. 25% - 40% discount is possible, at Expo, Robinson's sales etc. If they cannot lower any more, try to get freebies - mattress protector, pillows etc. Just let them know another place you asked offered those. Good luck with mattress hunting.
  12. I understand - I have eczema too, so far, so good. Leather seems to require more care than fabric, because you can't just wash it. You need to use cream and conditioner and manually cover the whole sofa with it. I have also heard that it is quite warm, tho other ppl say that only synthetic leather makes you warm. This should not be a prob tho, if you have a maid who helps you clean. If you are going for country style, I think ecktorp is quite suitable. You could go with the flowery cover or the striped ones.
  13. hi, they can give you that guarantee because the model is named differently with a different distributor. this is the same for all mattress sellers. i am not familiar with sealy range, so unfortunately, i can't help you save a little more. if you are very comfortable with the mattress, then every cent is worth it. hope you avoided plush or pillow tops, or the non-flip thing. because plush/pillow top will settle and the non flip thing just means you are buying half a mattress.
  14. I got mine from Ikea - quite sturdy steel frame with padded legs. Adjustable height and easy foldaway mechanism. Costs about 59 I think.
