Here's my experience on using P D doors. It looked nice and I thought it was worth paying for the good looks and the lack of a bottom rail. If my home was only used by my family , this door could last for years..Alas, during new year etc, I will have loads of relatives friends visiting and most of them close the door incorrectly. In less than two years of using this door, the plastic clips have been broken twice. I have paid for one repair..right now it is broken again. My patience has run out and I am looking to replace it with a normal bi-fold door.. Note that you cant possibly teach every kid, aunty, uncle on how to use this door unless you plan to conduct door closing lessons on your new year day to teach all of them ... Even if you teach them, It just takes one forgetful person to pull out the hidden piece before snapping the first piece in place and wala, your door needs repair!

Hi Big Orange and Herbman, HDB finally got the main con to call the subcon who came by yesterday to fix and teach me how to change the water level.. Its all in the corner float mechanism. theres a red catch that must be released first (pushed out) and according to them (cos I couldnt see it) theres a white thingy right at the bottom of the tube that allows the tube to be pushed up and down. Its hard to explain, so its best to call HDB/ECTC if you need help. So far things are getting flushed although its at a cost of 50% more water used(4L to 6L per full flush)
-
yep..looks like 9707 imho it isnt that good but I am hoping to raise the water volume to see if it can 1 flush clear everything 95 percent of the time..right now its like 1 flush can clear everything 75 per cent of the time... so its like using more water to save water...haiz
-
BO, Did you get them to change it? They changed mine and now we have less residue problem.. Heh, however even tho residue problem is solved, sometimes i still need to flush 2 or 3 times because the water amount is small ..sighz..i am trying to get them to teach me how to increase the amount of water per flush becoz the new float mechanism is not easy to figure out (oso dont wanna try too hard in case I break the plastic mechanism) so my current situation has improved and worsened at the same time. The previous WC mostly needed 1 flush but when u think its clean..come back still got residue..whereas now I often need 2 flush to clear all with no residue coming back. sighz
-
hmm B.O how come you are getting a new WC? is the HDB govt-issued one giving you residue problems?

I dont know if they will do so or not, because they will have to send their staff (everyday or alternate days) to push back the carts, because everyone will just push back to LG but not the other way around. Hmm we should try asking fairprice too we could "play" both sides by claiming that the other one is "planning" to do so , muhahaha

I agree with hihihi you would think HDB would have experience after designing so many flats..these bunch of architects who approved/designed this block is certainly among those who do not deserve their stable garmen job and increments/bonuses. so much inaccessiblity and lack of ergonomy compared with the older designs..not to menttiont the fact that some units do not have good ventilation with only a small window and maindoor as the only openings on 1 side and lots of windows on the other..a total lack of common sense in tropical building design that even school kids can do better.

hehe gratz fellow 220c member, feel free to drop me a pm if you wanna see a reno'ed 5rm for reference. ie the headaches of the common bathroom doors, storeroom entrance hiding

Hi 5 shor, I am blue blooded too..I think we are both 220C?
-
It depends on your usage blurer..you can go here http://singapore-aircon.blogspot.com/ to find out if non-inverter is right for you. typically inverter will result in electricity savings but it can cost more up front.

Quoting myself another side topic..I was thinking of getting scv's HD box when I move in (supposedly nicer images than their digital settop box) but then I heard that the HD box does not allow remote control for volume! z and if I connect HDMI cable form the HD box..I cant get teletext.. just read from Hardwarezone that you can get volume remote control using HDMI on the SCV HD set-top box but still no teletext.

good luck on your reno blurer23 from your blk 220C neighbour

hey folks FYI, if you drive and park on the double yellow lines along the access roads, please be careful... my ID just kena saman yesterday.. I think 100 bucks..so please be careful and warn your ID/contractors too.. I was a split second away from the saman but my ID "saved" me coz he saw his car kena and mine was the 2 cars away which allowed me time to take lift, run down and press my key remote just as the guy was keying in..

I cant remember PV700 specs but I do know that PY700 is full Hd with the screen glass looking a bit rough(anti-glare coating) PV8 and PV 80 are both HD ready (both made in spore), power consumption is 335W (according to specs) PV8 has 1 lesser hdmi input than PV80 and something else..I think an SD card slot PY800 is Full HD (42 inch is available and 50 inch should be just released in spore) HD ready is good enough for the SCV HD shows and HD5 (these transmissions are not even 1080p) Full HD is useful if you intend to watch a lot of blu-ray discs and for screens 50 inches and above. Honestly, I couldnt differentiate the difference when 42PY800 and 42PV8 were side by side with both displaying a blu-ray show. For 50 inchers..you may have to stand quite close to spot any difference but I dont think most people sit so close to their tvs. I actually bought PV8 for my bedroom. For my living room, 50PV80 was around $3499 with vouchers but I am still undecided if I should go for it (it is only HD-ready) or wait for 50PY700 (full HD but screen looks rough) to drop price. 50PY800 is way beyond my budget (more than 5k i think).. AS to whether LCD or plasma, Its a personal choice..but trust your eyes (compare at best, HN, friends/relatives or even coffeeshops LCD/plasmas) and think what shows you will be watching most, and price/power consumption. I dont think samsung has a similar size at 42 inch to make an apple to apple comparison but I agree that from specs, even their 46inchers consume less power than plasmas. For me I still went for plasma beacuse the LCD dispaly of SD (TCS, SCV shows) imho are worse than our old CRTs. Why pay for something that did not improve the quality of viewing, notwithstanding the space saving. another side topic..I was thinking of getting scv's HD box when I move in (supposedly nicer images than their digital settop box) but then I heard that the HD box does not allow remote control for volume! zzz and if I connect HDMI cable form the HD box..I cant get teletext..

thanks lovelee and herbman76 woot 43 and counting! we could even get organised to recommend stuff to hdb , eg connected walkways to the new mall ? here are some good buys that I hoped I made: TV: Anyone else bought panasonic plasmas at the last pcshow? 42 inch PV8 was selling at $1649 with $200 NTUC voucher and $200 taka voucher and if I sell away the home theater that comes free with it for $250, my plasma is only $999! I was even too tired to ask for hdmi cable as freebie (heard other people got it) I compared lcds and plasmas for their display of SD (standard definition is normally what tv shows from tcs and scv produce) and liked plasma a lot. I was aiming for the pana PV70 but it has been discontinued and went for PV8 (supposedly better/brighter n more energy efficient) I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn out better or at least as good as the pv70 for SD. Washer: Ordered a samsung washer wa10u7 (8.5kg) for $399 from harvey norman. I used to use national aka panasonic and wanted to get a japanese brand but I was convinced by a knowledgeable HN staff on the virtues of samsung air turbo vs airjet. ( a bit more drier and more robust lint catcher) Dryer: Thomson TD88 (display unit $679). Didnt want a dryer but from the way the service balcony was built, it doesnt get much sunlight , so I bought the cheapest top loading dryer available just in case. Fridge : 2 door silver colored samsung(HRNS) with 3 ticks for $1050 (cheapest from a phone comaprison was parisilk at $1020 but was lazy to order from different place) paid about addional 250 bucks more for fridge, dryer, washer extended warranty to 5 years for all these heavy usuage appliances. Fridge and washer both came with a DVD player free and extra $50 dollar NTUC voucher for the fridge.

Heya neighbours *WAVE* whoa ..just saw this thread..so many pages oredi .. got the keys to 5rm 220C in April (SERS from bedok south) started my reno liaoz, finally chose my ID (Inspiration ID) after considering Hobee (didnt want to be a guinea pig coz their carpenter changing) , Ideal house (quite expensive after comparing apple to apple and not impressed after visiting a flat they were working on) Main reason was that we wanted a granite flooring and Inspiration ID did a good job for my relative (who has high standards and is meticulous) at his flat in Strathmore. Work is progressing quite fast even though we are in no hurry to move.. gonna miss my windy old place at bedok south incoming rant warning stoopig hdb design so many windows in 1 direction but almost seal off the other direction cept for main door and my master bedroom small window.. haiz..guess we may to use more aircon..how to save gaia oh well , on to the positive side... better location (dang..the 216 market reno till jan methinks). cant wait for bedok mall (bedok point or whatchamacallit)

Hi all, I have a dilemma regarding stove and sink placement too, with the layout shown in the attached, The kitchen main entrance is at the bottom part of kitchen layout (which is north) while the service yard entrance with the kitchen window on is on the left side of the kitchen layout(east). As shown I intended to have the hob/hood facing the main entrance (nice visual impact of chimney) but after reading the above, I am having second thoughts as the hob faces the main entrance. I could shift it nearer to the fridge position but my mum (doing most of the cooking) feels it kind of forces her into a corner. She also prefers sink to be at the window position as shown. I was also thinking of having an additional window/bar/breakfast counter to be hacked into the wall just right beside the kitchen entrance (reason is to brighten up the kitchen and increase ventilation) but that means even less space to place the hob as it is even more likely to face a window/entrance. can anyone recommend a good layout ? Seem like either way I place the hob/stove (top or right wall of the layout) it will face a window/entrance.... thanks in advance
