  1. good choice, not good to take too much loan. btw, u can choose to laminate living as well. HDB can do cement screeding for u. So can cut on 1 more cost. 2K should be enough to laminate the entire place although not many pple do that. Furniture + electrical items can add later when more comfortable. I think that you should get a few quotations from ID packages, main contractors and sub contractors to get a feel of the market. But remember that essentials like kitchen ware (sink, hob+hood), heater and lights are charged separately. The absolute carpentry that you need is the kitchen, others you will have to put aside first or use furniture. It is possible to keep within 10K (without furniture) but need a lot of research work. Good luck and enjoy the process, its bittersweet fun Hi anyone planning to use Systemind platform. I just realize that it is **** expensive. Any users can share their experience with this product? www.designtray.com/index1.htm
  2. Wow, DSA. Very direct indeed. I painted my room once and it was super siong... and I did a lousy job in the end. Not worth the effort in my opinion.
  3. Sorry, I forgot to add painting for you. Painting is a super siong job for people who are not used to it. I think you should get sub-contractors & cut the middlemen if you have the time.
  4. I see haulage similar as triad's "bao hu fei". You wanna do reno, better pay respect to the authorised pple. Kitchen base confirm need, else cannot wash floor without flooding the cupboards. Think washer need base cos they want dryer (Stack up). Need to be more stable. Since not yet hit budget of 10K. Better add in other necesscities as well. Homo tiling Living room + walkway: 1500 Lamination 3 rooms: 1200 Kitchen: 2000 Painting:800 Electrical: 0 No false ceiling, dun pull any lighting points just pure installation of lights at given points Haulage: 1000 Random items (curbs, kitchen + washing machine concrete base): 200 Shower doors: 500 Air-con (2 split): 2000 Storage Heater: 245 poh joo (ask them for help in installation) - alternatively can buy 1 electric heater and forgo hot water in 1 toilet. Hob: think 300 is enough, forgo the hood save 200 Kitchen Sink+ Tap: 200 Light: Ikea => 4 round lights for bomb shelter, service yard, toilet*2 => 67.6 Normal Rectangular florescent lights: 5 (becos living rm need 2) => 300 When they come, pester them to help to install the other lights as well in toilet. Total: $9513 Dint know that its actually possible but its going to take a lot of work coordinating. Just assuming the prices, might be over/understating some of the items.
  5. I think its going to be very basic. I'm going to assume some prices. Homo tiling Living room + walkway: 1500 Lamination 3 rooms: 1200 Kitchen: 2000 Painting:800 Electrical: 0 No false ceiling, dun pull any lighting points just pure installation of lights at given points Haulage: 1000 Random items (curbs, kitchen + washing machine concrete base): 200 Shower doors: 500 Air-con (2 split): 2000 $8700 Hey its possible! but need a lot of coordination work yourself and no hacking of walls, no false ceilings, no tv console etc
  6. Haha, come to think of it. You are right! but I have a few quotations all around this price or more.
  7. sorry I did not ask for breakdown to details. All in all 23 lighting points 4 relocating of 13 amp socket 1 shifting of SCV & FM installation of lights is 1250. I quoted the wrong price earlier.
  8. I pulled a few wires for lights in false ceiling and relocate some sockets + TV/FM point. Electrician cost me 1500 bucks. "Lighting point" to electrician seem to mean pulling the wiring to that location only. The downlights are charged separately.
  9. Congrats! 1. Take your time with the defects, as long as never start renovation, can still submit to them. 2. If you want your house to be ready by CNY, better start evaluating IDs/contractors soon
  10. Haha, no wonder. I actually went to Hoe Kee the other day and it was an unhappy experience. Thot since got forumers recommend, better dun bad mouth. Anyway, I went on a weekday afternoon and there were no customers in the shop. I went in and walked around alone for 5 mins before a guy in tie approached me to "assist" me. His way of service is most weird and bizarre. HK salesperson: Hi can I help you? Me: Yup, just got a new house. I want to take a look as well as get quotations for hob, hoods , sinks ... HK salesperson: You wannna buy or wanna quote? Me: No quote how to buy? HK salesperson: In that case, theres pen and paper. Write the serial number and the price down. (hands me pen and paper) Me: Price negotiable? HK sales person: No. Needless to say, I walked out pretty soon
  11. Hi, you need to take a walk down jalan besar. I have also enquired for Joven Storage heater 35 litre (horizontal). Quotation given by Poh Joo was $245. They also sell bath room stuff & kitchen items @ quite good price. For lights, so far I went to a few and currently Noble lightings gave me the best service & price. I believe you are referring to "downlights" with false ceiling right? Each light ranges from 8 bucks (round without cover) to 40 bucks (square with cover). I dun think it is good to put a spot light in the passage way. I going down again this weekend to visit other shops that I have missed, update you again if got better deals for Joven heater.
  12. Same thing, 221A is super bad as well. I can only stay at a few particular spots that has min coverage. Yup, I'm orange too BO. Is that why you choose your nic?
  13. Doesnt matter, no one can sell till 5 years later
  14. Hey hey cheaper than Gain City. Where is Kaisoon? Have you installed counted in installation cost? Any one done has any issues ?
  15. I dun haf a bike but there is a bike shop in the hdb behind spc kiosk. Its along the coffee shop that sells "Ocean Curry Rice" and "Katong Laksa". Cannot reminder the block number sorry. Yesterday I went to Gain City to enquire about System 4. I was told that only Mitsubishi Electric System 4 is small enough to be pushed out from the bedroom window into the air-con ledge. Is that true? I was keen to use a Toshiba prior to this.
  16. My opinion is to take the blu ray as the format has seemingly won the HD war. Anyway, anyone has experience with bargaincity? Their deals are reasonable Btw, I bought my 3 seater sofa (car leather) with ottomen, dining and coffee table for slightly less than 2 k at Kings furnishing. Worth a visit @ 55 Jalan Pemimpin. http://www.bargaincity.com.sg/
  17. Haha Sean, my counters all red now. Last lap liao, I'm contemplating betwn 1 ID and 1 contractor. Done nothing except masking tape out the area for visualization so far . At night no light, day time need to work, only got weekends to do it whenever we decide to change layout. Tiring but fun process.
  18. Cash is king but if you are prepared to take a risk. The stock market looks pretty battered right now. But if go in now be prepared to hold a few years imho. Its quite a chim field and everyone has their own risks appetite and views. I can only say that I have been holding some shipping trusts. They give out regular quarterly dividends amounting to approx 10%/annum. They have only a history of 1 year + so er, dunno how long they will last. Caveat emptor, administrators dun ban me hor.
  19. 1 dollar coins are good. They are naturally ba gua and will not look out of place if you use them as diy fengshui setup.
  20. BO why so pessimisstic? Idealsmith & others doing reno, good luck and hope everyone's work is smooth I'm still undecided will update when finalise
  21. New CSM? Haha good luck to you bro I read/heard from somewhere that Bright House Lightings is having a warehouse sale now. Anyone can confirm? Cant find the info anywhere. Bright House Lighting Pte Ltd 15 Defu Ave 1 #02-01 Singapore 539538
  22. Yes yes. My contractor agreed to install for me but he warned me must buy the correct type. Tell you more when I settled with the contractor. Got a few things on my hands right now.
  23. Hi Idealsmith, can I arrange to visit you over the weekend? can you also pm me pddoor contact? Thanks!
  24. Hi herbman / idealsmith, Are you guys using PDDoors? My contractors do not know about it? Is it good? From the website, the price looks reasonable to me but are there hidden charges? Do they do installation of 1 door? Hee www.pddoors.com
