  1. Let's put aside the effectiveness of security access gates barricading the lift waiting area on the ground level, shall we? Have you visited the blocks over at Bedok South Ave 1 which has lift access security gates installed at the ground level? The design of the block's ground level is significantly different from that of those at Linear Green. 1st Litmus Test: Navigate to your unit through the void decks of Linear Green & not walk through any lift waiting areas on the ground level. 2nd Litmus Test: How many ways can anyone get to a unit in Linear Green? 3rd Litmus Test: Who's gonna foot the bill?
  2. I'm sure your ears are fine with sharp hearing. Does your unit face any source of noise pollution? The MRT track - freaking noisy MRT trains passing byNew Upper Changi Road - vehicle noiseThe playground - children, kids screamingThe used utensils & cutlery washing area of 咖啡宅 - H.M. Cleaning Services cleaner throwing things around. Noise polluters as late as 3 am!!!Worse of the lot: the ongoing construction at the former Changi theatre/Bedok Cinema site, which continues till 10 pm EVERY night. How about, on your way home, visit to the top level of Blk 219 MSCP, perhaps you might hear what I hear every day & night.
  3. And I thought my ears were playing tricks on me! Either that or I am the only one whose unit hears the flush down the waste water PVC pipes......
  4. The likelihood of security access gates at the ground level lift waiting area is practically zero. The reasons are rather intuitive. I can come up with 3 of them easily.
  5. Interesting observation, isc90152. Tis good that Blk 221A is quiet - I'd love to have that for peace & serenity. I believe Linear Green is rather wide, almost 280m diagonally from Blk 219 MSCP to Blk 220 MSCP. Reminds me of the story of the blind men and an elephant, which originated from India: "Reality may be viewed differently depending upon one's perspective, suggesting that what seems an absolute truth may be relative due to the deceptive nature of half-truths."
  6. You can upload those photos to ImageShack & post the links here. Linear Greeners are concerned about the safety & security of their units so it is good to let everyone know of the home security solutions available.
  7. That means the signal is switched on headend but not the to individual units unless the unit's residents subscribe to Starhub cable TV or MOL service. So any cable modem elsewhere that is registered with StarHub MOL will not be able to lease an IP from Starhub as there is no signal from the headend.
  8. Care to take pics of those flies u see & post them here? Best is to shoot them with a digital camera in the macro mode, usually denoted with a flower icon.
  9. Those are moth flies or drain files. Moth flies (or drain flies) make up the Family Psychodidae. Drain flies are small, dark, fuzzy, moth-like insects. Drain Flies are called moth flies because of the long hairs on their wings, perhaps they look like small moths. These flies do not move far from the breeding site. They don't fly well at all and usually spend their time close to the site they are infesting. They are often found clinging to the walls of bathrooms, kitchens, or in the basement. During the day, adult flies rest on walls or on the sides of tubs and shower stalls. They become more active at night, hovering over drains, sinks and other breeding areas. As their name implies they are associated with clogged drains, but also to organic matter that may accumulate around sinks and other fixtures in bathrooms. The larvae can survive some fairly strong chemical applied to the drains, so the best method for control is to physically clean (remove the stuff) the drain. These flies rarely occur in large numbers, but may persist throughout the year in small numbers. Drain flies breed in polluted shallow water or the scum that often collects around drains. In the house, drain flies lay their eggs in the gelatinous material which accumulates on the sides of drains and overflow pipes, and the larvae feed on the decaying organic matter and microscopic plants and animals that occur there. Each female can produce about 100 eggs and, under optimum conditions, development can be completed in two weeks. Although these flies do not bite, they can be annoying in the house. Control of drain flies should be aimed at control of the breeding sites. The most effective control method is to clean the drain pipes with a stiff brush, removing all the slime in which the flies breed. Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the trap to thoroughly eliminate the breeding media. Pouring hot water down the drain provides short-term control. Drain fly larvae are difficult to drown because they are able to trap air bubbles and remain submerged for a day or more. Their breeding sites should be the water catchment area at the central refuse chute on the 2nd floor. If it's wet, it's the water leaking from the pipes facing the refuse chute. I encountered this in my block and discovered water was leaking on all the 17 floors. Lodged a report with town council, it was fixed the next day. No more moth flies in my unit. Well, there still the occasional tiny one in the bathroom......and fruit files from the window at the service yard.
  10. The key thing is to get organised. The more support garnered in the form of signatures with names & unit number, the more strength our voices will have. This issue is under the purview of HDB, BUILDING TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT, Technology Development Section. And the weak hinges are supplied by Nam Lee Pressed Metal Pte Ltd. BSC can't do much - they can only channel the feedback on this weak hinge issue to the HDB engineers listed above. Besides, they are only responsible for the build quality of the internal structure of the unit, not the fixtures which are the product of the respective suppliers. I can email HDB. Attaching the video of the hinge breaking or at least a working link to it will provide very solid evidence. As for videoing the hinge breaking, two things are needed: someone who is engaging Mr Kor to weld hinges of their wrought iron gate and a video camera. MP for Kg Chai Chee: Mr Lee Yi Shyan Minister of State for Trade and Industry MP for East Coast GRC (Kg Chai Chee) Vice-Chairman of East Coast Town Council Place: Blk 409 Bedok North Ave 2, #01-32 Singapore 460409 Date: Mondays Time: 8.00 pm Tel: 6241 9935 Fax: 6241 9935 Email: 33_bsec@pap.org.sg I think emailing Mr Lee at his PAP email is better.
  11. Video the hinge breaking stunt, upload it to YouTube, publicise, gather signatures & from LG residents with name & unit number, pressure HDB.
  12. Great pics, Fred. The thumbnails eg http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/7232/70252015io1.th.jpg can be linked to the full size pic by removing the th. To get HDB to act on this issue, HDB engineers need to be shown how the structure of the hinges supplied by Nam Lee Pressed Metal Pte Ltd is weak & does not stand up to tampering. Yea, that's how their mindset work.
  13. Photos of the welded joint would help. The camera will need to switch to macro mode for good close-up shots of the welded joints under very good lighting. Photobucket provides good photo hosting.

  15. Are the water pipes installed by your contractor/ID's plumber using copper or stainless steel? To test whether the water is contaminated is to test the water from the water mains: Turn off the water mains outside your unit. Then proceed to disconnect the pipe in the kitchen. 19. According to 2 mobile sales personnel promoting Starhub Cable TV $19.20 per month subscription package which provides 3 basic groups + Channel 55 VV Drama, if your TV can receive RTM 2, your unit have no Starhub signal. And I managed to tune my TV to receive RTM 2... However, Starhub says CableTV & MaxOnline / Digital Voice Signal have been made available to the block since 27-Feb-2008! To check the 'cable-ready' status of your home, key in your 6-digit Postal Code.

  21. Under certain operating conditions, inverter air-con system uses less electricity than non-inverter version. NEA knows. However! Inverter air-con systems cost > $1,000 more than non-inverter versions. It is quite apparent that this sales personnel know little about the products that he is promoting....

  25. The bulky removal service does not include the dismantling or the removal of build-in furniture and renovation debris. Items such as cabinet and built-in wardrobe must be dismantled before it is removed. Some town councils do not provide this service to residents who are shifting houses. So it is best for u to call your town council & source for the info that you need.
