Googled for non-reflective window films and found this company, Sun-X. I think it will be rather high priced. HDB allows window films as long as they are non-reflective. Not possible to have films on window that provide privacy & are non-reflective, right? The other is Window Cool - comes highly recommended by donut88.

I think there are some Linear Greeners over at Singapore Brides forum. Fireworks as seen from my unit's MBR not very spectacular coz the firing site is too far and the viewing angle is ............ not comfortable. Better viewing at National Library but it closes at 9 pm. The other is MS Office, NTUC Centre at One Marine Boulevard or any of those skyscrapers near Singapore River. Best is the outdoor dining area in the food court at Marina Square.

Transfer speed over wired connections still triumphs over wireless connections. High throughput is of significant importance when it comes to NAS, movie streaming of high definition formats such as mkv & ivm. And the speed will not be corrupted by stray interference by signals from other wireless networks. For those who ain't binded by broadband contract, you can consider M1 Fixed Broadband plans - cheaper & faster than Starhub's offerings, with upload speeds of up to 384Kbps, 512Kbps, 1Mbps & 2Mbps. IDA has a guide to residential broadband. The Axia-led consortium, named OpenNet is rumoured to have won the tender for NBN based on fibre-to-the-home last mile delivery technology, capable of achieving ultra high speeds of symmetric 1 Gbps or more, with initial provisioning of 100 Mbps. Anyone here play WoW?

If there's no compelling motivation such as need for speed, I believe a wireless router solution would be easier & more elegant. Another alternative is HomePNA through phone lines. If only the Starhub coaxial connections can be leveraged for home networking.
-
Is there any particular motivation for laying network cables? I believe it is only needed if your file transfer need for speed is more than what wireless 801.11n routers can provide - typical throughput of 74 Mbit/s to a max of 248 Mbit/s. Are u intending to do high speed file transfers or video streaming? It requires, at a minimum, Cat 5 cable (the same as 100BASE-TX), but Cat 5E and Cat 6 cable may also be used and are often recommended.

Our Linear Green thread is too quiet these days - Let's play hangman, shall we? Or u prefer Wheel of Fortune? Name of retailer can be provided instantly. But what's the fun right? Goh Ah Bee Hoe Kee can't do such pricing. I think Fujioh's pricing to home electrical appliance shops is rather favourable OR these shops go for lower margins, higher volume.

Yuppers! FX 900 at $350. From my findings on hobs & hoods, which I posted on earlier pages, I conclude Rinnai's inner flame burner is technologically superior than Fuijoh's version. Just that Rinnai Singapore is short-sighted not to bring in RB-2Si (which is available in TW, CN & HK) even though they have a RB-3Si and a RB-2CGS in their hob line-up. I doubt RB-3Si is available at $300.
-
Only the ones with inner flame burners, ie RB-2CG & RB-3CG are made in Japan; the rest are made in other countries, for eg Vietnam. That's how it manages to keep prices of hobs with non inner flame burners competitive. RB-2CG is my number 1 choice for hob if not for its pricely $650. And dam Rinnai Singapore doesn't bring in a stainless steel hob with 2 inner flame burners. And so I picked my second choice Fujioh FG 792 SS which is $300. Rinnai lost one customer.

There is some margin in which u can adjust the position of the hob such that it does not face the tap - Fire & water must not oppose each other.

Do We Need To Submit Report After Air Con Installation
DSA replied to cueball's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Oh so u didn't inform the air-con installer of your unit's electrical loading limit? The correct sequence is Check your block's electrical loading before you apply for Electrical/Air -Conditioner Installation Permit.Permit issuedInstallation of air-con.Your case is under Electrical Works. You can also refer to HDB's guidelines on Air-conditioners Installation Works. Now, you need to apply for the permit either via MyHDB Page or call HDB Branch Office Service Line 1800-2255432. -

Think it could be Mr Ryan's occupational hazard?

Since the majority of Linear Green is occupied by residents who opted for SERS, I believe this piece of news is appropriate for our thread: Fiona Chan reports HDB residents give thumbs up to SERS scheme.

Window Grill Recommendation?
DSA replied to shark's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
I engaged Acme Inc. Industries. You can ask for Henry - he holds BCA Approved Window Installer licence. They supplied & installed 3 panes of sliding windows on the ledge at service yard, totaling almost 36 square feet at $450. 1 standard Bifold door at $180, another with roller at top hung & no bottom track with 2 clear glass panels, 2 acrylic panels at $320. Definitely cheaper to engage the direct supplier. Going thru ID loads the cost with ID's margin. -
Got a thought here on renovation & home furnishing: What's the most arduous buying decision you have to make so far? For me, it's mattress - still unable to decide what's the most suitable one that is within budget. And the phenomenon that similar mattresses often have different names doesn't help at all! What's yours? Mattress Buying Guide.

CNA reports that NEA is conducting a pilot project in 200 homes in the North West and South West Community Development Councils, to help households in these areas monitor their energy consumption. The six-month pilot project will begin this month, and focuses on families in four- and five-room flats. The devices will be installed free of charge by NEA and Bridex, the company behind the device. Mr Ng's energy-saving ways, together with those of 11 other families will be featured in a new programme titled "Energy Savers", which will start running this Thursday on MediaCorp's Channel 8 at 8pm. The show will challenge the 12 households to reduce their energy consumption by at least 10 per cent and invent creative ideas on how to save electricity. The winning household stands to win S$5,000. Those not involved in the trial can buy the S$200 device at Home-Fix stores from next week. Energy Consumption Tracker Consumers may wish to invest in a tool that helps them to not only monitor their total energy usage like the EVS but also ascertain which specific energy intensive appliances are the major energy loads. An Energy Consumption Tracker (ECT) is being developed by a local company, Bridex Harwal Pte Ltd, with support from NEA. The ECT can track the real-time energy consumption of key energy-consuming appliances in the home and display energy consumption information in kilowatt-hours and dollar value. It can also display households' monthly energy consumption for the past 12 months, which can enable households to track the effectiveness of their energy conservation efforts in reducing their overall energy consumption.

Lucky Khoon Hardware: They specialise in plumbing products - kitchen sinks, taps, mixers, bathroom products. I selected LKH on their pre and after-sale service and proximity. My advice is really do your homework, know the competitive prices of the items you have in mind.

JVA25 JH25 $230 is the quoted price but I got an overall discount as I bought mirrors, bathroom accessories, kitchen sink from the supplier who lives below my current place! And moving to Blk 219B! Wahahaha the world is very de small..

Outdoor weathering of any insulation material that will be subject to the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation, ozone and oxidation is a concern. Where UV exposure is severe, flexible closed-cell elastomeric thermal insulation must be protected from light degradation with a UV resistant coating, mastic or jacketing depending on the environment and the application. Elastomeric products will become stiff, harden and crack when exposed to UV.

CityGas raised the price of the package from $668 to S$730. The feasibility of installing gas heater in Linear Green units was discussed in earlier pages. I opted for a 25 L Joven heater for $230. Hahaha I think that sums up my take on this CityGas gas water heater.
