  1. wallboxes only comes in white. those fancy looking modern faceplates is only good for concealed wiring i.e new HDB. Well, u learned something new everyday.
  2. 1) complain back to HDB first to see what solution can they offer. Request them strongly to hack and screed it nicely for u (see if it works). 2) your contract sounds abit fishy. First they say can solve the hollow floor and started drilling, next they say sorry can't solve, need to hack. Did u check the floor hollow-ness yourself by knocking with a hard object, to determine the area, size by using e.g pebble? If the area is small... have u consider to ask some odd job bangla to hack it for u... ?
  3. just remove the horizontal plank and buy the stainless steel pull out basket to the correct size, install. no sweat at all.
  4. when u go police post to change address, they'll just paste a new address (in sticker form) over the old laser marked address... so basically u can peel off the new address (since it's only a sticker) and go borrow some more.
  5. Hob and Hood can be easily change coz they comes in pretty standard sizes. Changing the sink will involve very unconventional way. Your biggest challenge would be to find a replacement sink which has nearly the same hole dimension as the solid surface cut out hole. see below pic for illustration. Measure the existing cut out hole size, then approach sink sellers to search for you. This is not something ID or renovator likes to do for u, coz these are sheesh jobs that doesn't earn them profits.
  6. sorry don't get your story. You bought a house, obviously with tiles. And u did a cement screed over it for overlay? Where did the holes comes from? who drilled the holes? of coz id will wanna earn money from u, sure the easiest solution proposed to you would be the most lucrative solution (to them).

    Downlights

    1) Normally how much does each cost ? $20~ can vary, depends on size, design, shop. Too big will look abit ugly. Too small will limit your bulb size = too dim. 2) Usually how much distance before another piece is needed, as in how to determine how many pieces u need ? u should have a self-feel already from the length of the ceiling. u can bring the floor plan to them and ask the shop to gauge for you how many pieces needed (if u have decided on which shop to buy from). 3) Round one or Square ones cost more ? Which one you all think is better ? What are their difference ? depends on design. see which one u like better. 4) How is the electricity consumption of downlights ? depends on what bulb u put in. along jalan besarh also have alot of light shops.
  8. there's also those stickers strips that has rough surface de. Originally meant to stick onto baby's bathtubs to prevent them from slipping. water proof. look under baby sections, not common though.
  9. if u have a trip to Penang... there's quite many shops selling.
  10. if that is a cold water pipe, what i would do is to use Autosol to polish away the rust, then use clear lacquer spray to spray over to maintain the shine.
  11. think DSA will write until no space to write... haha.. I bomb their playground and exercise corner + sheltered walkways. Add: anyone noticed our playground got a pile of sheesh on top of the platform? today walked pass it's still there.
  12. goto those flatted factories... if u're in northern region... look for building YS-One. East is Ubi area. Central is Jalan Bersah area.
  13. most brands only sell the faceplate, coz most modern switches are all concealed, therefore no need for the wallbox. the wallbox at most cost $1.xx while the switches starts from few dollars onwards depending on colour, design, and brand. Wallbox are white colour, I haven't seen anything that has different colour. Normally the price of electrical point only consists of a El cheapo wallbox, not special branded stuff. **BUT** MK has got its own wallbox . Check this out: (http://www.mkelectric.co.uk/products/ranges/rangeproducts.asp?productdescription=PVC+BOXES+32MM&rangeid=1003) u can buy from Choo Chiang, got several branches islandwide.
  14. i had a similar situation. Luckily my neighbour is automatic. whenever they need to smoke they place, they'll close door. My door is always closed, so somehow they also got the msg ba. *ting* *ting* behind closed doors is still ok.
  15. wow thanks for the tip. To reduce the noise of the dripping, can put one big piece of sponge (if u can find)... it'll soften the sound.
  16. Spageddies <-- I bet on it. Waiting for it to close down. Bedok Mall <-- it won't be better than Simei's shopping mall. Solar film... depends on your investment. The sun will actually shift position throught the year.
  17. should be around $2.5k if using laminates. laminates also easier to wipe. the 2 spot lights above the vase.... will be charged seperately by the electrician.. $30/pt..

    Light Sensor

    Sim Lim Tower... basement maybe.
  19. thinner is to water down the lacquer abit, otherwise will be too thick difficult to brush. But cannot water down too much like stirring water. Ya, it's ok to vanish just like that. Note that lacquer has 2 colours: clear and yellow-ish-brown. Clear one will retain the current natural wood colour pretty well. Yellowish one, the more coats u do, the wood will turn darker one shade.
  20. Lacquer: (The hardworking way) 1) Sand the wood 2) apply thin coat of lacquer 3) dry 4) light sand the surface 5) repeat (2)-(4) (Lazy way) 1) apply thin coat of lacquer 2) dry 3) repeat 2 coats is enough Wood oil is the easier, less effort way. Disadvantage is that it doesn't waterproof the wood as good as lacquering. And have to repeat the oil-ing after several mths. Lacquering is permanent and u can wipe the dust off easier. The more coats u do, the smoother will be the surface coz it fills up the grains, making it harder for dust to be trapped, and easier to wipe. Lacquering is quite a hassle.. need brush, thinner, lacquer (2 types: clear & slightly yellow).
  21. The hot sun is here, I once also thot of doing solar film, but dropped the idea coz effective film will actually darken the house too much. For the kitchen area, I'm going the vinyl decal way (same thing where u paste inside your car, just bigger size).
  22. check out yellow pages , then call up those tiles suppliers whether they've got stock. Yeah, mosaic are expensive nowadays, but still quite cheap for few pieces like that.
  23. looks like u can only mount opposite your bed or on the right hand side wall (i.e opposite the wardrobe). btw, where is the window?
