H Prettibride, how much is this tap costing?
-
Hi, Lights, when u open up the cover, inside surface is mostly white. I was thinking to paint the inside silver, using aluminum paint which I saw in DIY shops, in order to increase the internal reflection, so that more light is throw out from the lamp. Just like some Down Lights interior is made of aluminum reflective plates. I wonder Silver vs White, which one is more reflective... is this idea good to go? Comments and suggestions are welcome

Homogenous Wall Tiles Got Stained Easily
hihihi replied to honestguy's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Tiles seller themselves says that Homo tiles are very prone to staining. There's also nowadays "non-staining" homo tiles. But the seller says those are less prone to staining (not totally won't stain) because they went through polishing to cover all those tiny holes (those tiny holes absorb the stuff, thereby retains the stain). I agree with the idea to invest in a backsplash. Can't expect the developer to change the tiles 100x if u decided to cook 100times. Glass (tempered) is better as it is easier to clean. Stainless steel looks nice, but when cleaning probably will be h-e-l-l, especially brushed surface. Unless it is pre-painted with something glossy like lacquer. -
False Ceiling Lights To Which Switch?
hihihi replied to lxiul's topic in Plumbing & Electrical Works
lxiul Is your Sofa and TV that length soooo long until u need to place 3 downlights?? If not, install 2 downlights is enough. Commenting on your placement.... (1,3) normally u sit at sofa to read newspaper, you will want the lights there to be ON. If only ON (1,3), then (2) is OFF, looks abit funny... will look like (2) is spoiled. (2,7) If I looking at TV, I find (7) disturbing my view of the TV. Unless all lights are OFF during TV time... but that means u got no lights for newspapers. I would therefore suggest: 1,2,3 (two lights is enough?) 4,5 9,10 6,7,8 (two lights is enough?) -
cacky Doing ala-carte is quite a challenge. Basically u takes over the job of the main contractor. And do the cooridinations etc. Advantage: u have excellent price control, Disadvantage: Time consuming, will be trouble if contractor dispute with u. Coz they're only on small project, they can afford to hack-care and lose your biz. darcbleu If put TV on short wall, no need to shift the SCV point. But remember to put a downlight behind the extension coz it'll be dark. * Another idea is some pple do a wall extension on the short wall, do a swivel panel in the center, and mount the LCD onto the swivel panel. Then u can also watch TV while at the dining area. So far I haven't seen anyone doing this design.

Most sofa makers can do customise, of coz price will be different. M Boss, Morris Lifestyle, Uvonna etc.

SmartFool, u should seriously goto Poh Joo (Jalan Besar) for a visit. They have alot of sinks with different prices, depth, size, bowls. Hoe Kee also have alot of selections, but price wise probably can only fight if u buy alot of stuff together + neg. Seriously, nowadays what is not made in china? If u really want europe made, then prepare to pay a premium. Strictly speaking, nobody does "undermount" anymore. Nowadays it's more like "middle mount"... coz the sink is sandwiched between the wooden kitchen cabinet and solid surface top. In early days, undermount is usually for sink support, where they will use clamp underneath the sink to hold it in place, that is the real undermount.

Tile Shop Normally Will Give Walk-in Customer Discount?
hihihi replied to hihihi's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
AFAIK, there are several streets with lights, accessories and stuff: - Jalan Bersa (bugis walk down) - Geylang (between Paya Lebar and Aljunied) - Balestiar rd -
Hi all, Will be soon starting my reno. My initial planning is layout is "Kitchen 1" (cooker in center of kitchen, sink is nearer to kitchen entrance), but then recently met with renovator, he says there is some HDB ruling that sink and electrical point must be some 1 feet away. I called up HDB, they say no such ruling. Sensing he might be smoking me, can anyone confirm? His proposed layout is "Kitchen 2".

Laxton & Samantha's Little Roof Over Our Heads
hihihi replied to nautilus's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Hi Samkcy79, Some queries... 1) How do you make the glass matt... 2) How was your investigation on the paint being powdery? Thanks in advance.. -
saw at Courts Tampines, Phillips ~$99 for 3 sticks and the base (charger) wow.... ya, they are very nice, flickles like real candles. But $99 can buy really alot alot of real candles.
-
Yup. Just to add. In renovation, all prices u see in shops are all FAKE prices. All had already been marked up artificially: sink, hobs, tiles, taps, lights... etc etc. Partly is to deter competitor checking out your price and under-cut you. Basically when u really wanna buy, then u can start to negotiate for a lower price. If any shop simple say u pay the price displayed on the price tag, don't waste your time, simply goto next available shop. That's why home-owner tend to go shopping for their own stuff to cut off the middleman (i.e Contractor, ID).

Kenna quoted $560/door. Potential item that I will eventually take out and direct ask the supplier to do.

Lawry, Just to clarify. Old style flats all the electrical wires are exposed, meaning that you run your wires by means of trunking (i.e that plastic long squarish pipe), from the distribution box (there's a circuit breaker box usually located behind your main door). Electricians have to connect wires from this box to every corners of your house for lightings, electrical points etc using trunkings. They cannot do conceal. Only new style HDB, dunno which year they started, HDB flats starts to have conceal wiring. Means that HDB built the flats with the wires already conceal into the ceilings and walls from your distribution box. They'll give u a map tell u where the concealed wire goes. (By Right), electrician cannot do new conceal wiring if they need to shift electical points (only HDB can do it).. (By Left), most pple shift and still conceal the wiring. Do they have coloured ones instead of white?

Anyone Heard Of Kitchen Stove Cannot Face Window?
hihihi replied to two piece's topic in Geomancy/Fengshui
To me it's more like a safety issue, stove face the (open) window can extinguish the fire. But if close the window should be fine. nowadays the kitchen is so short, the layout is actually more or less fixed. -
Sofa From Warehouse Normally Comes With Or Without Warranty?
hihihi replied to star77's topic in Home Furnishings
yup, normally those brandless warehouse sale are either display set, stopped production model or they just wanna finish these remaining stock. so usually no wrtty. -
Ok found some info: When u dig open the switch, the wall is actually got a space, and u will actually see this box inside the wall, with some wires. this is the conceal wiring point. Then u fix the wires to the switch's face-plate, which will then either click-in or screw into the box (see the holes for the screws from the picture), covering the hole. There u will have a flushed switch face-plate. Of coz there are other design as well... nicer = more expensive = probably more flushed.

Just a note on the SCV point. By Right (rule), when shifting the SCV point, u cannot do conceal. So some go up the ceiling and down (most no brainer ID/Contractor). Some run a cable trunking along the skirting (did some thinking, but follow law). By Left, 90% pple run underneath the tiles concealed (which is the most elegant way, no ugly trunkings) ** hear say, not proven ** Bomb shelter hole, heard from my neighbour that, By Right, you can cover one hole but cannot also cover both holes, i.e must leave at least 1 hole open. If u want electricity, you can tap from inside the bomb shelter (there are power points & SCV inside). As for the ruling of specific types of window grills from HDB, that only applies to the service yard, NOT whole house. Means that you can do fancy wrought iron for your living room.. *muahaha* I pray that Bedok Mall will have a cinema pls....

Taking Out Items After Renovation Contract Is Signed.
hihihi replied to hihihi's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
eh, will they like get pissed off and start to cut corners? -
eh, I'm not an expert, but I see my new flat are all like that flushed, for conceal wiring, no?
-
DSA.... haha.. nice one on the "wrong placement of SCV point". Totally agree with you, I went around looking, out of 10 units I see, 101 units all had to shift their SCV to the opposite wall. But I wasn't complaining already, at least they didn't make the bomb shelter entrance face the living room. *whew*
