Cement Base For Kitchen Cabinets - Necessary?
hihihi replied to soojin's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
if cabinet sits on base, then no need to clean the underneath. Otherwise it'll be home to lizards, cockroaches to roam the land. -
How Long Does It Take To Construct Kitchen Cabinet
hihihi replied to secret_ag's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
agree it'll be 2-3 weeks fastest. Need to choose laminate. If u do built in hood/hob, best is wait for u to buy then take actual measurement, then they cut the hole. -
Personally I feel that Turbo hob the burner support has abit too much using cast iron (black colour, glossy). That will rust over time, and it's ruined, although it won't collapse. So my current hob I choose those with either brass (gold colour) or nickle alloy (silver colour). If u want to see see look look, either goto Hoe Kee or Jalan Besar. There's lots on display. Can see for yourself.

Hi all, When I first done my renovation few years ago, I remember the contractor asked me for original floor plan to apply for some permit. Later he gave me the copy. This time round, another renovator, didn't do the same. I wonder if I should be asking them for the permit applied, in case they didn't do that.. any comments?

Also saw something similar at Design Light, Jalan Besar.

Hi all, Do also check your outside aircon ledge, there's a grey colour power box for the aircon. Mine initially there's no "tiak" sound when u turn it ON/OFF (supposed to have abit of spring latched). Asked the BSC pple to come, the switch was installed upside down. Hmmm.. Inside the MBR, the wall near the aircon wooden panel, there's another 15A socket for aircon, u can change that to a normal 3pin socket since nobody install those old style cube aircon anymore. If wanna u DIY, ** SWITCH OFF THE DISTRIBUTION BOX ** (better to ask electrician do it if u not sure)

Inverter System & Non Inverter System
hihihi replied to briansg's topic in Electronics & Electricals
ya, invertor only helps u save electricity if your usage is high, e.g several systems ON at the same time for a period of time. Or a certain unit always full blasting large space (e.g living room). Then u need invertor. If u are occasional user, once in a while only ON 1 unit, then non-invertor is enough. Coz u can't harvest the benefits of invertor. -

Requesting Spare Tiles From Hdb
hihihi replied to lxiul's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
I got a few piece of wall tiles from Building Services Centre (BSC), self collect. They are actually selling them for high price, but I got a few pieces free. I even saw Hp numbers in the lift that says selling HDB tiles, i called, they actually sell at the same expensive price as HDB, with an extra $15 delivery charge. Really chop u deep deep. Of coz if the contractor spoiled anything, or needed HDB tiles, they had to buy themselves from BSC. -
Where Can I Buy "free Standing Oven/cooker"?
hihihi replied to dkwokgs's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Alot of shops along Jalan Besar. U can try Poh Joo. Any shops that sells hood/hob will have this. Coz it's too big, u won't see any on display. But if u ask, they will have the catalogue. -
I've got a catalogue which list the options: T8 tubes: 18W, 36W T5 tubes: 8W, 13W, 14W, 21W, 28W, 35W isaacp's case is his tube is too bright that it lighted up the whole living area instead of just a cosy area. Probably he just needs a lower wattage tube. If T8 18W is still too bright, then change to T5 tubes. For length, they comes in: Common: 2ft, 4ft (u can buy the tube anywhere downstairs, supermart etc) Non-common: 1ft, 3ft, 5ft, 6ft (probably u have to visit light shops)

Don't think that will be an elegant way. Coz that kitchen wall, upper part there's a big fat white pipe. And that's also where u will do your upper cabinet. If u drill thru wall, somehow your pipe need to disappear into the cabinet and go thru the wall. Upper part of the wall should be a beam, can't drill thru. So it's many hurdles. If u get what I mean. DSA's suggestion to go thru service yard's bi-fold door, and into the bathroom 2 window will be better.

or change to a lower wattage-rating bulb. Lower wattage is the layman's term of the bulb being less bright (and consume less energy).

How Much Is A 90cm Tempered Glass Backing For Kitchen?
hihihi replied to hihihi's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
the problem with this contractor is that he's offering me this price with 5mm thickness tempered glass. But he gave all sorts of excuse abt glass cracking ah, no warrranty... blah this blah that, really kills my confidence in him. That makes me wonder if he's offering a lower standard product (is 5mm enough?) Meaning to say, he's offering $300, 5mm tempered glass. If it breaks, he don't wanna have any responsibility, that prompted me to go source for 2nd source. -
those shops that makes curtains also does cushion as well. I just went to order a cushion from Jimmy Textile. Had to wait 2 weeks for collection, which I think is abit long. But nvm...

birdbird one aircon contractor actually tells me Panasonic compressor cannot pass thru the HDB window, this I didn't go and confirm. But I don't understand why aircon makers will go and make a compressor whose size is not suitable for HDB... hmm... I think better to clarify the size with the aircon installer, they should know better.

How Much Is A 90cm Tempered Glass Backing For Kitchen?
hihihi replied to hihihi's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
got a rough measurement from my existing cabinet. Length=90cm (follow hood) width=58cm (existing cabinet measurement) Was quoted about $300 for this piece by contractor. Gonna find out more from supplier tomorrow. Thanks! -
under Clipsal: http://www.cisasia.com.my/ Look under C-Bus (the controller), - Neo and ULTI (the switches)

I also had something similar to share. Seller wanted 1mth extra coz they say they offer low COV, ok fine. Give one step, take one step. On the day they shifted, they even removed the below: really can't believe it... gave them 1 mth and yet they return the "kindness" in this way. should have charged them 1mth rental fee
-
Earlier on in the thread some already took pictures of the tiles (should be DSA). But I would suggest u goto Blk 220A downstair the office to see for yourself the real colour. Coz digicam took the pictures, the colour will be off.

Prices Of New Flats
hihihi replied to himiten's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
I would say prices are unlikely to fall. But more like rising at a slower pace than b4. 1) Policy change. HDB now had a new policy that says new couples if give up their queue (after getting one) will be put in the back of the queue for 1 year. Think many couples seeing a big queue number, knowing sure will get low floors. BUT WHO WANTS LOW FLOORS?? so HDB's new policy is "forcing" pple to take up their flats. In another words, hardselling. 2) the general price of HDB is controlled. They made a mistake b4 of over supplying, but not anymore. See their recent projects u will know. 3) They mentioned they wanted to increase the general resale valuation price, so as to decrease COV, so as to make flats more "affordable". Whatever it is, the hint is strong enough already. Valuation price increase, new flat's price cannot be too far off right? So will peg along. -
think u know the answer already... halogen lights are energy hungry stuff. Unless your lamp only uses like 1 or 2 bulbs, then it's still not too bad. Typically halogen bulb is used for lighting effects, coz the light is yellowish, and bright and bulb is compact small. Energy saving bulbs in order to achieve that kind of brightness, needs to be pretty big. So normaly it's used for spot lights. Not advisable to use halogen as dining light coz dining light is quite frequently switched on. Your energy consumption will be high.

So far so good. Now waiting for aircon and painting. Did some little work myself but that almost killed me. My new neighbour lent me his power tools, and that is really really a great help, saved me some blood, sweat and time.
