Electrical work cost??

Hi

For those who engaged Eric, what switches did he give? MK Switches?

Before I confirmed with him, he said will be using MK.

When he finished most of the electrical work and I went back to see, he gave Feng Yip swithces (the rocker switches with a flower logo at the bottom right). He's not honest, he tot I dun know tat switch is from Feng Yip.

So did u managed to get it changed ? Initially I thought that the switches we have to provide but it seems that the electrician will provide these.

Can I check, how many of you actually asked for PUB testing since it's optional? There's much more freedom if you skip the test, if you decide to do the test, quite a few restrictions like height of DB box, number of heater points, height of plug in kitchen, etc ....

I'm in a dilemma.

So are the prices posted on this thread based on concealed wiring?

Single power point = $90

Double power point = $110

Light switch = $80

Light point = $60

Fan = $80

SCV = $220

Telephone & Data point = $220

Distribution board (32A single phase) = $340

**** ex. just like my ID, quoted me almost double of Eric's.

Eric is a lot cheaper.

His workers not bad, sometimes a bit forgetful and slipslop, but Eric will tell them to do again if not right.

As for the MK switches I stated above, Eric can change to MK.

But in the end, I refused, cos he's giving MK slimline series, not avant series.

Slimline is worse than Fung Yip switches.

Slimline is so hard to press and so ugly, Fung Yip is smooth to press and chamfered and the edges.

Hi all,

I had just gotten a quotation from an electrician (refer below). My place is a landed property (corner terrace). From what I see, he is charging very much higher than what some of the guys here have posted. Is it because mine is terrace? Or is he just charging too high?!

BTW, I don't see any indication of PUB testing.

SCV Point - $150

Single 3 pin Power Point - $60

Double 3 pin Power Point - $70

Telephone Point $80

2 way light switch - $180

Lighting Point - $75

BTW, mine is not concealed points.

All power points, switches are layed using PVC casing.

I would like to find out if anyone has engaged Mr Quek's service, as I have found his charges not that transparent after all. I dont know if he has too many projects in hand, he is quite forgetful and has charged me for the work which I told him initially to do, but dont need him to do at the end. Anyone has smiliar experience?

Normally prices are for non-concealed wiring. Independent electricians do not normally quote concealed wiring as the hacking and replastering is done by the general contractor. Your ID probably giving you a package price including hacking and replastering.

May not be the best price but its up to individual. I did manage to get a $1300 package for the above. Excluded installation and some other charges. The electician did not reveal much so i did not much what he meant by other charges. The highest quote u received was 2.5K wiith no installation included. I almost fainted...so x!! Its was recommened by my contractor. Thats' why i begin to find my own electrician. Hope the above can provide a gd reference.

Why do u need a complete set of DB? Just wondering why is there a need to change the DB... I was recommended by my ID to shift the DB in order to cater for my shoe cabinet. Is it safe to do that? What happens if the electrician did not do a good job?

Is that necessary? I am doing rewiring for my 4rm resale.

Also I was quoted for both 13amp single and double switch. Isnt double enough? Total cost ended up to be ard $2.8k! I though this was ridiculous... someone pls let me know if this is the normal rate?

$2.8K expensive or not depends on the number of lighting points, power points, heater/hob & hood points, SCV point (around $95/point), phone/fax points, DB Box (most expensive item around $350), etc... you have.

Are you changing the Main Cables? Recommended if your place is very old and going for SP testing.

Usually SP testing cost is around $250-280 but some ID electrician will recommend using metal casing (which is an extra cost if a lot of metal casing involved) for the wiring (especially behind feature walls, walls, wardrobe) for SP testing so that in case you drill in future you will not drill the cables directly.
