Ever felt so comfortable in a hotel bed that you were too reluctant to climb out of it? We understand that feeling all too well. And it’s actually possible to recreate the same level of comfort in your own bedroom—as long as you’re willing to put in an extra bit of effort.
Your mattress will form the foundation. People believe soft mattresses provide optimum comfort, but on the contrary, you’ll end up sinking into them, harming your posture and disrupting blood flow. What you should do instead is purchase a medium to firm mattress, because it’ll provide the perfect amount of support for your spine while giving you a good night’s rest.
Pick a suitable mattress topper. Your mattress may be responsible for providing support, but it’s the cushion on top that’s going to give you most of the comfort. A featherbed, memory foam mattress topper or eggshell mattress toppers can give you that extra bit of luxury. Trust us, it’ll work wonders.
Get the most comfortable fabric for your sheets. If you prefer softer sheets, try cotton sheets with a higher thread count.
Also, layering is key. The hotel bed is a sort of like a sandwich, and you should start by wrapping your first sheet snugly around your bed. Next comes your first flat sheet. Make sure it drapes evenly on each side of the bed, then flatten and pull to ensure there aren’t any creases.
Place a comforter or duvet on top. Get one that suits your comfort needs extremely well, and make sure it’s weather appropriate. Don’t buy a comforter that’s too thick for our tropical heat because it’ll feel too stuffy lying underneath.
There’s no limit to how many pillows you should pile on your bed, but it’s important you place the same number of pillows on each side for balance. Also, try testing them out before purchase to see if they fit your comfort needs. If you’d like, add decorative pillow cases to your shopping list for that extra splash of colour.
When you change your sheets, clean the mattress as well, ridding it of dirt, dust and debris. This also eliminates dust mites and lingering odours, which in turn makes you feel a lot better knowing you’re sleeping on a clean mattress at night.
Your pillows might compress over time, so gently shake them and push their sides in to fluff them back up. Or, you could simply sun them to get rid of any absorbed moisture within the pillow, and in no time they’ll become fluffy again.
Hotel beds typically look extra tailored and polished. To achieve the same look, make sure everything is tucked in properly. It’s the small details that are going to affect the overall look, so this step is pretty important!
