Looking like every child’s dream (and also ours), this 2-storey apartment in Ukraine almost feels like it belongs to the birthday wish list of a kid. Yes, we are talking about a home with a main feature that’s sure to turn heads – a long metal slide.
Designed by Ukrainian firm KI Design, the slide connects the second floor straight to the living room. Because slides are usually associated with childhood and youth, it can be difficult to incorporate it in a sophisticated manner into a home interior. Let’s see how the minds at KI design managed to bring a cool and fun edge to this nostalgic dream.
The abode adopts a Minimalistic-Scandinavian appearance that uses a lot of wooden textures and light colours, with the slide built next to a wall that separates the living room and kitchen. It starts out steep, then lowers into a gradual slope when it touches the tall divider.
Another eye-catching aspect of the home, the divider features greenery on the side facing the kitchen, so the homeowners get a bright start to their day when they slide down in the morning. The dining area sits in a corner at the side with large windows surrounding it, bringing light to the space.
Although simple, the living room exudes an invitingly cosy ambience. Unlike conventional sofas, the seats here extend both ways – one in the direction of the window bay, and the other the television console. This makes for a great social setting, as the area feels more open and comfortable.
Pastel shades from the furnishings provide the living space with a soothing atmosphere.
Because the rest of the quarters doesn’t include a lot of loud or abstract furniture pieces, the slide stands out as its main focal point. Moreover, the structure of the slide is plain and uncomplicated, making it a fitting accessory for the residence.
Aesthetics aside, the slide is also a practical addition as it is faster and may even be safer than walking down the stairs. Of course, we can’t argue that it is indeed a mode of transport that’s way more fun!
The stairway is built right next to the slide, reminding us of a traditional playground.
Upstairs, the study is a cushy nook by itself with its sloping ceiling and windows overhead. The black brick wall grants the room with a fresh edge, and the shape of the table makes it functional and delightful at the same time.
