Helena Rubinstein once said, “There are no ugly women, only lazy ones.” But the truth is, these jaunts to the beauty parlour aren’t just an essential for the ladies; they’re a treat now especially with an increasing number of salons investing more in interior decorating and renovating. No matter the design, one thing is in common: these stores feel inviting enough to make you want to stay just a little bit longer. This issue, we visit grooming salons, a multi-label beauty emporium, as well as barbershops because we know even you gentlemen need to look good!
kimrobinson Studio
Address: #02-12 Ngee Ann City
Despite an interior that is exceedingly opulent, kimrobinson still manages to strike the right amount of warmth and affability such that the beauty salon’s ambience is more enveloping than intimidating. Founder Kim Robinson himself lavished its interior with bespoke furniture, luxe furnishings as well as his personal works of art to create a style identity that echoes that of a first-class hotel lobby. Foliage, like gorgeous sculptures, furbishes the salon with Nature’s inimitable beauty. What’s great is that there are many standout spots around the area for a good photo op. Plus, which other salons do you know that stars a pair of peacock statues standing proud at their entryway?
Ambience: The combination of woodgrain textures, lush greenery, lilting music, and lighting effect akin to crystal prisms evoke an atmosphere of hushed serenity.
Escentials
Address: #03-02/05 Paragon
Fashioned after a Parisian apartment, it’s a small wonder why beauty emporium Escentials boasts that certain je ne sais quoi that makes it so charming. Its white-walled interior with embossed detailing and pillars with intricate mouldings is reminiscent of classic French architecture. This measured attention to detail is apparent in the way the brand operates. Escentials selectively chooses and curates its own collection of products, starring brands from all over the world, from the contemporary to the classic. There’s even a beauty laboratory that appears like a science lab, where trained beauticians concoct freshly made perfume oils on the spot.
Ambience: Chic and brimming with understated French glamour, this multi-label beauty store keeps devotees coming back for more with its well-stocked inventory.
We Need A Hero
Address: 57 Eng Hoon Street
Even Superman looks incredibly groomed all the time despite his packed saving-damsels-in-distress schedule. There’s no reason to look unkempt when you’ve got the ultimate one-stop grooming destination for men. Not just haircuts and shaves, We Need A Hero also offers brow grooming, waxing and IPL hair removal services. That aside, the parlour was built for the little boy that’s well concealed behind every tough man’s exterior. You know, the one who dons a towel-turned-cape, and pretends he could fly? A mix of raw steel and rustic wood in a Western cowboy saloon style interior makes this a masculine yet comfortable setting for guys on a quest to look their best.
Ambience: Like its tongue-in-cheek name, We Need A Hero boasts a décor that’s downright fun and utterly unforgettable. By leaving an impression, they are assured returning patrons.
