Showering can get tricky, not least when the sun’s been bearing down for a while and your water heater can’t stop overheating the water. It’s as annoying as it sounds, and you’d be forgiven for wanting to declare war on your water heater for trying to scald you. After all, what’s a water heater that can’t actually give you a shower at the temperature that you like at exactly the time you want it? Why is your water heater often overheating the water?
A traditional instant water heater is built to heat water at fixed power levels, meaning it doesn’t take into account the varying temperatures of the water that’s flowing in or its amount before heating it. If you’re looking to bring water at room temperature to an appropriate warmness, a traditional instant water heater is perfectly serviceable. But it continues to heat water that’s already boiled in the sun on a sunny day with the same full power, producing unpleasantly warm water.
In another example, when someone else in your household is showering at the same time as you, the water flow rate gets splits between the two heaters, resulting in a reduced amount of water flowing into your heater. A traditional instant water heater ignores this and continues to heat the water at full power, producing extra hot water that may even scald you. Of course, you can always fiddle with the temperature knobs on your water heater to bargain for the perfect ‘doneness’ for your shower. But you’d struggle to find perfection in a traditional instant water heater.
