Today we can attest to the growing understanding among a wide cross-section of our society of good interior design as something that is essential to have. From offices, commercial outlets and homes, both owners and patrons see the value of good interior design contributing to a healthy ambience.
We now have professional courses such as those offered at our local universities like the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to train young designers for this growing market.
While I do not have the data on the contribution of specifically the interior design profession to our economy, but the impact of design on the Singapore’s economy has been estimated by Design Council Singapore to be US$34.4 billion in 2015. This bodes well for the industry. Dr Yaacob Ibrahim
