After renovation, the next thing you will be looking to do is to clean your house. If you are allergic to the cleaning agents found on the supermarket shelves, why not try using straight vodka as your cleaning agent? Let's take a look at these practical tips for using vodka.
Leftover Glue
Having a difficult time removing the glue left behind by stickers and labels on your new glassware? Rub the glue with a soft, clean cloth soaked in vodka.
Window Cleaner
Dilute the vodka with water in a spray bottle. Use newspapers for a perfect, sparkling and streak-free finish.
Bathroom Cleanser
Instead of harsh chemical sprays, tiles in the bathroom and shower screen can be cleaned by spraying them with vodka. Leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse. Great for getting rid of soap scum.
Do the same with the caulking around bathtubs and showers too. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew.
Lighting Fixtures
Clean a chandelier with a solution of four teaspoons of vodka to one pint of water. See it sparkle afterwards.
Jewelry Cleaning
Vodka is great for cleaning hard stones like diamonds. Just pour some vodka in a dish, take the ring and swish it back and forth. Dry it off and it will give a beautiful sheen. If it is really dirty, put it in and let it soak a while and then scrub with a toothbrush. Afterwards, just swish and dry.
Flowers
Vodka helps to keep your flowers fresh longer. Add a teaspoon each of vodka and sugar to water to keep freshly cut flowers looking great. he vodka kills the bacteria that would otherwise grow in the water, and the sugar provides nutrients the flowers need to thrive. Change the mixture daily.
Odor Eliminator
If you unpacked your clothes from the movers box and found them bearing stale odors, spray a small amount of vodka (do a spot-test first). Straight vodka kills bacteria and it doesn't leave a scent. Hang the clothes out to dry in a well ventilated area.
Use the solution on stinky shoes too! Works great as proven on Mythbusters.
Flavored extracts
Vodka is a perfect base for flavored extracts such as vanilla extracts. Add vodka to vanilla bean in bottles and let it sit to develop flavor.
