Highlights of the Singapore Interior Design Awards 2021

The Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) 2021, also known as the fifth edition of SIDA, was held after the Singapore Interior Design Convention (SIDC) 2021 on 17 December 2021 at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore and via a Zoom livestream.

The event awarded the winners of the Concept and Completed categories, and celebrated the launch of its new sub-category - Best in Pandemic Design Solutions. It was also akin to a birthday celebration for the Society of Interior Designers Singapore (SIDS), 27 years strong.

Opening

The SIDA 2021 awards ceremony opened with the arrival of its guest-of-honour, Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office & Second Minister for Finance & National Development.

A little celebration was held for SIDS’s 27th birthday via congratulatory video greetings from international interior design federations, wishing the organisation all the best for the year ahead.

Professor Keat Ong, President of SIDS, gave his opening speech first, followed by Ms Rajah’s. Both expressed optimism about the local interior design industry in 2022, particularly regarding the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Scheme (SIDAS) launched in November 2021 to train and certify local interior designers.

SIDAS will train and certify interior designers to grant them enough skills and experience to properly meet their client’s needs. Both Professor Ong and Ms Rajah encouraged interior designers to attend the programme and get accredited.

Certificates of appreciation were then given to the sponsors and judges of SIDA 2021 to thank them for their contribution to the awards.

The awards ceremony then officially commenced. 400 entries were received across three categories, for 42 sub-categories. These entries came from Singapore and the Asian region.

Awards for one of the three categories - the SIDA 2021 Youth Category - were presented earlier that afternoon during the SIDC.

Amidst the presentation of awards, physical attendees of the event were treated to dinner prepared by Shangri-La Hotel Singapore.

Awards Ceremony - Concept

The Concept category launched a new category this year - Best in Pandemic Design Solutions, to acknowledge interior designs conceptualised around the ongoing COVID crisis.
