[Typhoon Season] What to do When Typhoon Arrives? 3 Stages of Precautions

What should I pay attention to during rainy typhoon season? The typhoon always catches houseowners by surprise. Why don’t you take measures to prevent leakage before the typhoon hits? Let Deco-Man share the ways of prevention before, during and after typhoon hits.

Before typhoon

Check windows and air conditioners

The most troublesome thing about typhoon is the sudden discovery of water leakage, so you should check the condition of the windows regularly. Whether the opening and closing of the window is smooth or the hardware accessories of the window are intact including studs and screws. You should especially pay attention to whether the waterproof rubber edge is damaged or aging. If there is any problem, you should contact the window technicians to repair or replace it. At the same time, you can tighten the screws of the window to prevent the window from loosening.

In addition, the plastic edge next to the air conditioner should also be checked for any cracks or aging damage. If there is, you can repair it by DIY with glass glue yourself. But remember to apply in a dry condition. If the water seeps, you cannot use regular glass glue. Please use “storm sealant” to fill the gap.

Move electrical appliances away from the window

In order to prevent water leaking from affecting indoor electrical operations, please move electrical appliances and any electricity-related objects away from windows, and avoid placing them on the ground to avoid electric shock due to flooding.

Use tape on glass window

If the typhoon is relatively strong, many people feel that they need to protect the glass of the window by using tape to stick a “X” shape on the glass. This method is not to strengthen its resistance, but to avoid the glass splashing around when the glass is broken to avoid accidents.

Check the water level of the terrace and remove the sundries

If your house has a terrace, especially in low-lying areas, you must clean up the debris near the drainage pipes and ditch mouths before the wind and rain, to ensure the water d. You should also remove or fasten the sundries on the terrace such as garden brackets and hoardings to avoid strong winds.

Use plastic bag to cover the side of the window, close the exhaust fan

If it is found that the rubber edges of the window frames are damaged because of aging, there is no time to deal with them, there are actually many emergency methods. Try to clamp a plastic bag, plastic tablecloth or shower curtain between the window frame and the window. This can temporarily replace the plastic edge of the window frame and prevent water from penetrating into the house due to pressure. In addition, the exhaust fan blades should be tied tightly with ropes to prevent rain penetrating.

During typhoon

Air conditioner must be turned off

Many people will turn on the air-conditioner to avoid overheating in the room because the windows are closed when the wind is blowing. However, if your air-conditioner is facing the direction where the wind blows, please do not turn on the air-conditioner to avoid damage caused by the motor’s resistance to strong winds.

Close the door when the typhoon hits

In addition to tightly closing windows and doors, in fact, if there is an accidental air flow in the room, the indoor air pressure may not be able to withstand strong winds, so even the door has to be closed.

Keep away from windows when the typhoon hits

The door and window glass has been subjected to the pressure of strong wind. If it is hit by an object, it is easy to break. The public should stay away from the windy door and window.

After typhoon

Clean up the water

After removing all kinds of protective materials including plastic bags and tape, remember to handle the remaining water to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. You should also check whether the water level is high, which you may consider future maintenance.

Check the air conditioner

Because the air conditioner is an electrical appliance with half of its body located outdoors, it is necessary to check whether it is still operating normally after the wind is blown out. If you find smoke or noise, you should immediately find a technician for inspection and repair.
