Cement Screed Flooring

Recommended Posts

Guys, I would like to hear your views about the cement screed flooring.

What are the disadvantages of not having tiles but just cement screed flooring?

Is it very slippery, easy to accumulate mold and difficult to dry?

  • Not slippery but can be very cold.
  • Can be very dusty unless you paint it over with clear lacquer.
  • Very easy get hairline crack unless you use a lot of hardener.
  • Even use plenty of hardener, big cracks will occur by hacking and knocking from neighboring unit.
  • Tone is uneven and can be quite eye sore if you cant accept it.
  • If want even tone, must use pre-mix cement at the expense of higher cost.
  • Water is more easier to dry as compare to tiles due to cement screed is porous.
  • Can stain easily unless painted with clear lacquer.

albertchng, thanks for your response.

Will the crack still happen if there are strips of pebbles being placed in between?

Will the floor become slippery if it is painted with clear lacquer?

Without clear lacquer coating, can the stain be removed using NTUC stain remover?
